The Road Less Traveled with Palmer Fortune

The Road Less Traveled with Palmer Fortune

Palmer’s Chicken serves a great fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese called the MotherClucker. But the story of its beginning is nothing but ordinary.

This podcast is not about chicken, it's about sobriety. When Palmer Fortune was 33 years old, he spent 19 months in a recovery clinic in north Georgia. His life is nothing but ordinary! His story isn't just remarkable, it's inspiring.

If You Can’t Take the Heat...

If You Can’t Take the Heat...

The City of Nashville gets hot. Really hot. So it makes sense that this is where the competition for the finals of USBG’s World Class Presented by Diageo would heat up. On this special episode of Back Bar, Greg dives into the history of this weird and wonderful southern city, its relationship with heat in all its many forms - including its chicken - and one incredible heated bartending competition. He also follows first time competitor Jessi Pollak as she prepares for the speed round, re-invents one of her grandmother’s classic recipes and even tries to summon the dead. (Spoiler alert: she takes home the gold!)

Iconic Regional Foods: Blue Crabs, Hot Chicken, and Coneys

Environment, cultural traditions, gentrification - all of these forces shape what we eat and are deeply rooted in where we are. Regional foods are more than just their flavors and ingredients. They are a culmination of local culture and generations of experience. But how are historic foodways being altered by factors like warming oceans and rapidly evolving urban landscapes? In our increasingly interconnected world, does truly regional cuisine still exist?

Join us in taking a look at some iconic regional dishes and the stories behind them.

    S2E3: Holly Hughes

    S2E3: Holly Hughes
In this episode of my food podcast, Hungry for Words, I interviewed Holly Hughes, the editor of the long-running Best Food Writing series. We talked about the lengths she went to unearth great food writing., reading as many as 1,500 stories a year to curate each annual volume. We explored her life before the series, as executive editor of Fodor’s travel books. When she started the series in 2000, many people didn’t think she could find enough food writing to fill a book. We delved into what separates bland food writing from the best examples. I read aloud some of my favorite leads and we discussed why that particular piece intrigued her enough to include it. I worked up the nerve to ask why none of my work was ever included — and she offered an unexpected answer. Be sure to listen to the end of the podcast; there’s some surprising news about The Best Food Writing series.

    Chapter 6: Nashville, TN -
Welcome to the Music City! In November 2017 me and a few of my classmates decided to travel to Nashville for the Thanksgiving holiday. Fortunately, for me, my family also lived in the city as well. From eating hot chicken sandwiches, visiting honky-tonks, to spending time with my family, my holiday adventure, while quick, got me in the singing mood!

Arman Oganesyan | How Dave’s Hot Chicken Went from a Parking Lot to Nationwide Franchise

Arman Oganesyan | How Dave’s Hot Chicken Went from a Parking Lot to Nationwide Franchise

Arman Oganesyan is the co-founder of Dave’s Hot Chicken, a Nashville-style hot chicken joint based in LA which he started with his two childhood friends, Tommy Rubenyan and David Kopushyan.

Before getting into the food and hospitality business, Arman was an actor and comedian who also created videos on Vine and YouTube. After discovering hot chicken following a visit to Howlin’ Ray’s and being inspired by the concept, the three friends got together and started selling their own out of a parking lot in Hollywood in May 2017.

After just a few days of being open and an EaterLA article, Dave’s quickly became a popular go-to spot for locals and started amassing a large Instagram following. After just 6 months, they moved into their first brick-and-mortar on Western Avenue. Fast forward almost a year later, they have some BIG plans in the making including locations #2 and #3 and a nationwide franchise rollout!

Pat & Posh sat down with Arman to hear about his upbringing, how he met his co-founders, founding Dave’s, and the struggles and successes they’ve endured along the way. We also chat about their vision for expanding the concept, how they plan on scaling the business, and his thoughts on the hot chicken craze in LA.
