How to Future Proof Your Career in 2024

How to Future Proof Your Career in 2024

How to Future Proof Your Career in 2024!  In a recent LinkedIn Livestream, I teamed up with LinkedIn Livestream expert, Gillian Whitney, to discuss how you can Future-Proof Your Career in 2024.   In this episode I share the recording of our ‘live’ discussion and you'll benefit from the comments and questions we received from the audience during our session too!

    We answer 6 key questions:

    1.     How to get clear on what you want to achieve in 2024

    2.     How to become a content creator on LinkedIn to attract the opportunities you desire

    3.     How to create an effective content strategy for success in 2024

    4.     Why you must add video and live streaming to your personal branding strategy

    5.     How to choose your live stream equipment

    6.     How to repurpose your live streams to reach a wider audience

As a career coach helping professionals to take control of their careers, I highlight the importance of becoming a content creator in 2024 to position yourself as the expert 'go-to' person in your field, and explain the power of LinkedIn Livestreams to broaden your audience reach.

Gillian Whitney, who runs Video Easy Peasy, covers future-proofing strategies, including using the versatility of platforms like Streamyard and the potential of repurposing the content you create to reach your target audience (recruiters, hiring managers and, for business owners, your customers and clients).

Authenticity in your messaging emerges as a central theme as we both advocate for genuine connections over scripted performances during a live broadcast. We also explain the significance of an effective content strategy for establishing yourself as an industry expert.

Video is a crucial element in personal branding, and you will discover how to effectively self-promote your capabilities without feeling too ‘sales-y’.

We share practical live streaming essentials and cover lighting, sound quality, and equipment recommendations.

During this fascinating discussion we delve into the broader aspects of navigating life's challenges, including self-assessment, adapting to AI in career development, and viewing AI as a tool rather than a crutch.  Times are changing and we all must adapt to the changes in order not only to survive as professionals, but to thrive!

Enjoy this episode and prepare yourself for success in 2024!

Three Reasons Why People Change Careers

Three Reasons Why People Change Careers

Have you ever wondered why people change careers? Did you have a dream career when you were young? If you did, what happened to that dream?

I always ask my podcast guests what their early career aspirations were when they were a little boy or girl?  We’ve had some really interesting answers and for a few of my guests, they actually realised those childhood career dreams.

Interestingly, according to a recent Flex Jobs Survey, only 10% of adults work in their childhood dream career.

How have your dreams and career aspirations changed over the years and where are you now?

    • Are you satisfied?
    • Do you wake up each morning with a spring in your step, looking forward to all you will accomplish professionally?
    • Are you eager to work with your team, in person or remotely?
    • Do you admire and/or respect your manager?
    • Does your physical work environment make you feel energised and inspired?

Over the past 20 years as a career coach, almost all the clients I’ve worked with have come to me because they have said, ‘No’ to most of those questions above.

And most of them have come to me not because they decided to do something about that situation of their own volition, but because they went through redundancy or had lost their job and had to get professional support.

When I ask how they felt about the redundancy, many have said they’d been unhappy for years however didn’t do anything about it as they were afraid to make a change. Or they didn’t know where to go to get support.

Don’t you think life is too short to be unhappy? Or to feel unfulfilled?

Why You Won't Hire The Right Person - Recruiting & HR Mistakes

Why You Won't Hire The Right Person - Recruiting & HR Mistakes

I honestly think, if you're using a recruiter to hire your next employee and they're using automated tests as part of their process, you're doing hiring all wrong.  If you don't take the time to look for the right employee, you'll end up losing them.  Finding the right person to work for you has nothing to do with testing and everything to do with the hard work it takes to find the right person to fill your job opening.

Episode 73: Skills Employers are Looking for When You're a Virtual Employee
Nearly 75 million Americans have been working from home over the course of the pandemic, and 86% of workers are now seeking workplace flexibility as a career benefit, new research indicates. So how can employers and employees navigate changes in the job market, including the shift toward virtual employment? We had the opportunity to chat with Ken Crowell, Founder and CEO of EmployTest, creator of pre-employment screening tests that help employers find the best talent and avoid hiring mistakes amid a flood of applicants. “In the coming year, hiring companies will be overwhelmed with job applicants, due to workforce reorganizations and the ease of applying online,” Ken says. “They will need an independent way to choose the best applicants. Our tests will help them with that process.” Tune in to find out what skills you really need when applying for remote positions, as well as how employers are weeding out the crazy candidates with employment tests. How To Land Your Dream Job, According To The Second Employee At Pinterest:

From high school, through college, we put so much energy steering our lives toward that dream job. The perfect work-life balance, completing tasks that align with our purpose, and getting paid handsomely for it.

Getting your dream job makes everything else seem a little bit easier. When you feel like you’re doing what you were meant to do you can push through the bullshit and get to the good shit. Problems become an opportunity instead of a burden.

Sahil Lavingia, the second employee at Pinterest and founder of Gumroad, a sales platform made for creators, tweeted out his recipe for securing your dream job. It’s simple, and it takes some work. As someone who’s been through the depths of Silicon Valley, got rich, and now runs his own company, Sahil knows what it takes to get that dream job.
