    28. How to start a blog

    28. How to start a blog

So you've heard about how brilliant blogs can be, but how do you start one?  Here are my top tips for getting started on creating a brilliant blog - which will grow your audience and your business.

Here's a reminder of what I go through on the podcast (and some handy links):

    1. Get clear on your mission

    2. Set up a platform - use your existing platform if you already have a website.  If you haven't got a website yet, then I recommend setting up a Wordpress blog.  You'll need 3 things - a domain (you can buy these at GoDaddy.com), download your site software for free at Wordpress.org here.  And you'll also need a site host - I use SiteGround, which is amazing.  Dr Andy Williams' book: 'Wordpress for beginners'  is brilliant! You can get it here (he releases a new edition every year).

    3. Commit to when you're going to post

    4. Brainstorm ideas beforehand - try and think about what your customers already ask you, or what they might need/like to know.

    5. Batch and schedule. Blogging takes less time if you write as many posts as you can when you're in the mood and then schedule them to go out regularly.  For example, even if you blog weekly, you only need to spend one day a month writing blog posts and then you can schedule them in for the whole month.  Giving you headspace for other things!

Enjoy starting your blog, and if you need any help, drop me a line at victoria@thevictoriabrown.com

Episode 23: How a blog changed my life

Episode 23: How a blog changed my life

I absolutely LOVE blogs - starting mine in 2019 changed my life - it led to a trip to Paris, building a business I adore and creating an amazing community, which I love supporting.

Here's why you should start a blog:

    1. It can lead to amazing opportunities.
    2. It can help keep your website up to date and keep Google happy.
    3. It can help with Search Engine Optimisation and key-wording.
    4. It can help you to answer common customer questions.
    5. It can build your authority in your space and your customers' trust in you.

To start a blog - make it simple!  Either use the existing blog on your business website, or start a Wordpress one, but above all, keep it consistent.  As it's only by blogging consistently that you can get results.

If you struggle with writing blog posts, and find it takes a long time, look at my new mini-course - Be Copy Confident - which will teach you how to easily structure your posts to make them super simple to write! You can get it here.

And if you want a blog,  but you don't have the time, then check out my done-for-you blog writing service.  Contact me at victoria@thevictoriabrown.com for all the details!

Food Blogger Maxine Sharf On How To Grow An Engaged Online Community Doing What You Love

Food Blogger Maxine Sharf On How To Grow An Engaged Online Community Doing What You Love

Maxine Sharf is a food blogger and recipe developer. She started @maxiskitchen on Instagram and has grown an engaged following of food lovers who enjoy her healthy recipes and authentic passion for cooking.

She gives valuable advice regarding the challenges of growing an online community and why it’s important to lean into your passion.

    Memorable moments:

14:45: Get over the mental hurdle of just starting. Just start putting out content, even if it's just one thing.

15:02: Lean into your passion. For me, I know that cooking is my passion because the world tends to kind of melt away when I'm doing it and I get into sort of a flow state.

15:14: There's a hundred percent going to be a big community of people out there who are also interested in that thing, even if it's a really niche random thing that you're like thinking “am I the only person out there that likes this?” That's probably going to be a more diehard following.

16:03: When you combine the medium that you're the most comfortable with with the passion that you truly care about, you're going to create great content.

What if you could travel, eat, shop, and stay in the best places around the world for a living? While this might be just a dream for (most of) us, it isn't for our guest this week, Christina Caradona, aka Trop Rouge. She's one of the OG New York City fashion bloggers (she's been in the game for around 10 years), and I had the pleasure of meeting her last month in her hometown Biarritz for an interview. We talked all about being a full-time influencer, how she started her blog, balancing romance/work, where she finds creativity, her top tips for getting into the industry & sooo much more. She's as real, honest, and kind as they come, and such a lovely & friendly person despite her fame!

Representing Hispanic Heritage through the Power of Food Writing

Representing Hispanic Heritage through the Power of Food Writing

After experiencing a “Ratatouille moment” while studying in Spain, the simple flavor explosion of an anchovy-stuffed olive changed Marisel Salazar’s life. Without a clear-cut path, she set out to become a food writer to tell the stories of the people behind the amazing dishes. More importantly, she dedicated herself to telling stories of undocumented workers in the restaurant scene. When Marisel unexpectedly got laid off from her full-time job, what felt like the scariest moment of her professional life ended up being the biggest blessing. She took the leap and started building her food writing career, one step at a time. After several years of putting herself out there in the publication world, things came full circle and she achieved top-tier status as the go-to Latina food writer in many lifestyle publications, including Insider, Martha Stewart Living and Tasting Table. In her conversation with Sarah, Marisel reminds entrepreneurs that success doesn’t happen overnight — it takes years of training and hard work to achieve a successful career in food writing.

Building a Successful Health and Fitness Blog with Bianca Jade

Building a Successful Health and Fitness Blog with Bianca Jade

From a young age, fitness was an important thread woven into Bianca's life. Years down the road, a headhunter in advertising told her she needed a project—something to set her apart from others in the industry if she wanted to move up in the ranks. She landed on the idea of Mizzfit: a blog about fitness fashion and trends in fitness. Though she didn’t get the advertising job she was vying for, she got something better: the opportunity to go after her dream. With hard work, sweat and tears, Bianca built a career and a full-scale brand from the ground up. She dug in her heels and took big risks, learning to navigate everything from trademarks and attorneys to how to partner with brands and monetize her site. Over the years, she expanded Mizzfit from just fitness to include travel, health and beauty, connecting with and building a loyal audience along the way. More than just a content creator and blogger, Bianca is also a talk show host and loves sharing her passion for giving back to the community. Bianca and Sarah talk about what it takes to build a brand, why every entrepreneur needs a dog and what’s next for Mizzfit.
