    Pay Your Taxes

    Pay Your Taxes

Welcome to Navigate the Day! Today's episode is all about paying your taxes - not just your financial taxes, but the taxes of life. As Seneca once said, "Nothing will ever befall me that I will receive with gloom or a bad disposition. I will pay my taxes gladly." This means that we should face the challenges and difficulties of life with a positive attitude and not be overwhelmed by them.

In this episode, we dive into the idea of being prepared to pay life's taxes. While we may think we are ready for anything, it's important to take a closer look at our actions and reactions to truly determine our level of preparedness. It's easy to complain about the challenges we face, but are we truly ready to accept and overcome them?

For many of us, the challenges we face are self-inflicted. It can be difficult to accept responsibility for our own problems, but doing so is necessary for personal growth and development. Avoiding conflict and stressors is a self-defeating practice - instead, we should aim to face these challenges with integrity and a positive mindset.

However, it's important to note that positivity isn't always the answer. Sometimes, neutrality is the key to overcoming life's obstacles. It's important to question whether the life we desire truly resonates with us and if we're willing to pay the necessary taxes to achieve it.

Life may be full of taxes, but it's important to remember that challenges are often followed by rewards. By facing our challenges head-on and accepting them as a necessary part of life, we can grow and achieve our goals. So let's take Seneca's advice and pay our taxes gladly, with a positive and determined attitude.

Thank you for listening and joining me on my journey of self-discovery!

    #53: Is Networking Necessary? Ugh.

    #53: Is Networking Necessary? Ugh.

I hated networking. I felt like I was begging people to "LOOK AT ME!!" Ugh. Networking was cringey for me... until I realized... it's just a conversation.

Being in DC this past week exposed me to some GREAT people where my less-than- premier networking skills helped me with some of those ambiguous gaps in my journey. I found access. I found community. I found a few resources. ..all thought TALKING and NETWORKING.

It definitely not what you know, but who you know. ...and I plan on using this to my advantage from here on. I may do a part two on this one...

Career Chat: From Instructional Designer to Chief Learning Officer with Frank Nyugen

Career Chat: From Instructional Designer to Chief Learning Officer with Frank Nyugen

So you want to be a CLO? Are you sure? Do you really know what it means to be a CLO?

    According to Wikipedia:
"A chief learning officer (CLO) is the highest-ranking corporate officer in charge of learning management. CLOs may be experts in corporate or personal training, with degrees in education, instructional design, business or similar fields.
Qualified CLOs should be able to drive the corporate strategy and align the development of people with the business goals of the organization. A full complement of skills, including business analytics, technology, learning theory, performance consulting and scientific inquiry, are important for success.[1]
The CLO may report directly to the CEO, but may also report to the Head of HR or Chief Talent Officer."

In this episode Frank Nguyen will join us for a special IDIODC Career Chat.  We will discuss his "origin story" and how he discovered a career in Learning and Development. And while not all of his titles were CLO, he has been in several executive roles equal too or even better than CLO.  Is that even possible? We'll find out.

We will also talk about the projects he is most proud of and the hurdles he overcame to accomplish the tasks. How he develops learning strategies for the companies he leads will also be a hot topic.

Most importantly we'll get his feedback on what he thinks it takes for YOU to work your way up the corporate ladder to CLO.  Join us for a fun conversation with one of our favorite L&D professionals, Frank Nguyen.

#2 Kari Rose’s Story: Making The Choice To Change Your Life And Love Every Minute Of It!

In this episode I had the pleasure of talking to Kari Rose. Kari Rose is a Transformational Healer with a mission to work together with you to enhance your life with the energy, clarity, joy and health you so desire. Kari shares her journey from her earliest memory of her life to today.

She explains what her childhood was like and some of the struggles of having a separated family. She started taking care of herself at a very young age. Kari has been a helper and a fixer through her whole life. There is a theme of making a choice in our conversation. She made the choice to better herself at a time when she didn’t know if she could keep going. Kari didn’t follow the same patterns as others in her family and changed the addiction cycle.

After many hurdles she ran multiple businesses and became an entrepreneur. Her entrepreneurial journey was not easy and she had experienced burnout. Despite everything she has gone through she loves life and what she does!

Throughout our conversation Kari provided us with lots of golden nuggets and advice on how to keep going when things get difficult and messy.

Psychological Consequences of Elite Sport, Wellbeing & Mindset | Jack Green

Psychological Consequences of Elite Sport, Wellbeing & Mindset | Jack Green

Today, I am joined by Jack Green. Double Olympian who represented Great Britain at the last two Olympic Games, and more recently a passionate wellbeing consultant and mental health advocate.

In this episode, Jack discusses his successful professional sporting journey, his massive performance accomplishments from a very young age and the psychological consequences of becoming immersed within a highly elite training environment – one which which influenced huge expectations and phenomenally high-performance demands.

Gradually, his identity, perception of his worth was consumed within the sport – only causing his mental health to deteriorate.

At 20 years of age, Jack stepped out in front of a crowd of 80,000 spectators in the London 2012 Olympics. His primary memory of this period was the overwhelming fear of failure and anxiety. This experience played as a significant trigger to his mental health struggles - subsequently receiving a diagnosis of anxiety, depression and bipolar tendencies.

Jack decided to take a break. But although, in hindsight, Jack wasn’t prepared, he returned to competing after 18 months, applying himself in yet another incredibly intense scenario... only triggering the old mindset to resurface.

Despite self-coaching, he continued successfully within his sporting career – only highlighting how his obsessive characteristics, extraordinary work ethic and drive to succeed played both a facilitative and debilitative role – playing culprit to his performance achievements, but also a trigger to his psychological complications.

As time continued and his career progressed, he acknowledged the detrimental effects of his mental health. He balanced out the possible future consequences and made the courageous decision of retiring – focusing on his wellbeing, prioritizing his happiness, and finally allowing himself to be vulnerable.

Jack’s purpose has now inspirationally changed to wanting to support others and empowering individuals to thrive. He is incredibly passionate about wellbeing, mental health awareness – today working alongside Champion Health, a personalised wellbeing platform, as their head of performance – now utilising his previous experiences and vast knowledge in an extremely positive and uplifting manner.

We also discuss the outdated stigma of mental health within the sport culture. How it is deemed as a weakness and why psychological input and mindset coaching is paramount to ensure the health and overall wellbeing of competitors.
