Uncle Walter's Year of Wonder - July

Uncle Walter's Year of Wonder - July

Uncle Walter's Year of Wonder. Near Lake Huron, in the Grey Water Area, Uncle Water recalls growing up in the 70's, before computers, before unsocial media, and before people forgot what was important.

July, the time of fireworks and celebration of a country's birth, but the land was here long before anyone had called it a name.

Walter and his friends are trying to stave of the boredom of the long Summer Holidays when they find something buried on the beach. It turns out to be nothing but his friend Thomas thinks he knows where real treasure may be buried.

Off they go to the woods, and find things that have been buried for a very long time.

Listen as Uncle Walter tells a July story about the land in which Walter and his friends discover something that had not bargained for.

Uncle Walter's Year of Wonder - June

Uncle Walter's Year of Wonder. Near Lake Huron, in the Grey Water Area, Uncle Water recalls growing up in the 70's, before computers, before unsocial media, and before people forgot what was important.

June,  when the days are long, and time seems to come to a standstill. Young Walter is struck by how time would take him from one end of the Summer holidays to the other, but how? What is time?

So Walter makes a pact with the Summer Solstice, and wants to see the sun rise and set and experience time passing. But not everyone understands, or cares, what his plans are.

A tale of self-awareness, the passage of time, and where we are in it.

Listen as Uncle Walter tells a June story about discovering the mysteries of time and space for a sixteen year old. Featuring Marty Garavaglia as Uncle Walter.

Spanish and French Missionaries To The New World Part 4 - Exploration And Martyrdom

Spanish and French Missionaries To The New World Part 4 - Exploration And Martyrdom

Now the French Jesuits got in on the act in the Great Lakes region. Jacques Marquette was a missionary to the Illinois and explored the Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Illinois rivers. John de Brebeuf became the "Apostle to the Hurons" and died a horrific martyr's death at the hands of the Iroquois. The seeds planted by these and other missionaries into the fertile ground of the Native Americans grew into a great harvest.

Warning:  Discussion of torture and murder/martyrdom

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Twenty-five years ago, audiences saw what would be THE first true movie star performance from eventual three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis headlining a large, mainstream action adventure film….and this would also be the last time they would see this as well.  No matter because as directed by Michael Mann, it was quite memorable to be taken back to 1757 and told the story of Hawkeye, a white man raised and adopted by the Mohican tribe.  Russell Means plays his father, Madeline Stowe plays the British aristocrat whom he falls in love with, and Wes Studi plays a local indigenous guide with a hidden agenda whom he encounters.  Amidst a sprawling story of romance, adventure, political intrigue, and tragedy, let’s find out who leaves the greatest impression….
