Casino Royale / The Time Dave Saw Jay Leno (Guest: David McGuire)

Our GUEST (ominous bass), former Hoolyweird type David McGuire antes in for a game of chance with "Casino Royale." Oh no no. Not that one. Sorry. It’s ‘Casino Royale,’ 1967. Starring Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, and David Niven. Directed by....everyone. As we do allow table talk here, eavesdrop on our patented signals: The “Night Eyes 2," and the "Hoagie/Hoagy Carmichael.”  What do you think is better film between this and the spoof of it? Also, for all you spies and sleuths out there, somewhere within, lies the Easter Egg to end all Easter Eggs! This episode was brought to you by The Crime Clean ®️ Family of products, and the Crime Clean ®️ Bucket ©️ ™ (which we believe should not exist. At all.)

Plot: A Spoof, in which an aging Sir James Bond comes out of retirement to take on SMERSH.

Airplane II: The Sequel: More Boobs Than You Can Shake Your Boobs At!

Airplane II: The Sequel: More Boobs Than You Can Shake Your Boobs At!

On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are landing this damn space shuttle on the moon even if it kills us! We watched the 1982 film from Ken Finkleman, Airplane II: The Sequel.

Do you ever get a feeling of extreme déjà vu while you’re watching a movie? The sort of feeling where you could swear you’ve seen this exact thing before, but maybe with a few slight changes?

It’s like the black cat crossing Neo’s path a couple times in The Matrix. Something is wonky in the world, but you’re not sure what it means.

We think you’ll get that feeling in spades while watching this sequel to the first Airplane movie. So pervasive will the sensation be that you’ll only be able to shake it by enjoying this episode!

Ant Coughlin, a pastor, joins Melvin in summarizing The VelociPastor. Because, of course! The two goof and gaff about this off-beat love-letter to 80's schlock grindhouse horror, and appreciate it's comedically dense yet economically handled runtime!

    Topics:

    • (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 1-hour discussing Dan Foster's "The Seven Pointless Things that Christian's Fight About" blog post, and how some of the things he proposes are actually deeply important theological ideas that Christian's would do well to discuss and affirm. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)
    • The VelociPastor starts immediately with some very clever humor, the kind that benefits the learnt in terms of film and film culture.
    • Part of what makes the movie so enjoyable is it's borrowing of the superhero origin-story format to explore it's narrative. It's silly, but it works really well.
    • If you've ever been curious what The VelociPastor is, it's basically a Daredevil clone but with a strong comedic angle.
    • During the film a character waits outside of a church and we can plainly see very real church signage of a real-life location. Melvin curiously Google searches this church and reads aloud some funny reviews. (And, for the sake of the church, does NOT read-aloud their name)
    • By the end of the movie it's very clear that The VelociPastor works not just on name alone but because it's a well made comedy film.

Episode 85: The Naked Gun // It's Enrique Polazzo!!!!!

In this episode, we'll dive deep into the hilarious world of "The Naked Gun." We'll dissect its slapstick comedy, offbeat characters, and uproarious sight gags. From the memorable "nice beaver" exchange to the unforgettable baseball game mayhem, we'll break down the scenes that had us in stitches.

But it's not just about the gags; we'll also talk about the brilliant cast, including Priscilla Presley as the love interest, Ricardo Montalban as the outlandish villain, and O.J. Simpson in a role that's as unexpected as it is comical.  And of course the brilliant Leslie Nielsen.

We'll share our favorite moments, the most quotable lines, and how "The Naked Gun" has aged like a fine, uproarious wine. Plus, we'll discuss its lasting influence on comedy films and TV shows that followed.
