    Jehovah's Witnesses and Child Baptism

    Jehovah's Witnesses and Child Baptism
Before being baptized as a Jehovah's Witness I was baptized as an infant in the Anglican church. My father was an Anglican Church member before he became a Jehovah's Witness. I eventually accompanied him to the meetings and took to the faith. The pressure from the elders in the congregation and amongst teens is immense and I eventually got baptized at 13 years of age.

What is very ironic is that Watchtower criticizes Christendom and the churches for infant baptism. Despite such criticism, and recognizing that baptism requires informed consent, Watchtower highlights it allows the baptism of children as young as 6.

Is Baptism for Babies or Believers?

Is Baptism for Babies or Believers?

Baptism is one of the main practices directly commanded for the church from Christ, so why is there such disagreement on how it's done? The guys and a special guest finally discuss the issue that separates their confessions (despite several outdoor noises), but it isn't as cut and dried as you might think. How you practice baptism is based on more than when you become a Christian or if the Bible mentions babies receiving this sign. It gets to the heart of what the Bible teaches about God's relationship to His people. We'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas for more episodes. Episode 179 - Scot McKnight: It Takes a Church to Baptize

Episode 179 - Scot McKnight: It Takes a Church to Baptize
Scot McKnight joins the show to talk about his latest book, 'It Takes a Church to Baptize'
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1587434164

From the back jacket - The issue of baptism has troubled Protestants for centuries. Should infants be baptized before their faith is conscious, or does God command the baptism of babies whose parents have been baptized?

Popular New Testament scholar Scot McKnight makes a biblical case for infant baptism, exploring its history, meaning, and practice and showing that infant baptism is the most historic Christian way of forming children into the faith. He explains that the church's practice of infant baptism developed straight from the Bible and argues that it must begin with the family and then extend to the church. Baptism is not just an individual profession of faith: it takes a family and a church community to nurture a child into faith over time. McKnight explains infant baptism for readers coming from a tradition that baptizes adults only, and he counters criticisms that fail to consider the role of families in the formation of faith. The book includes a foreword by Todd Hunter and an afterword by Gerald McDermott.
