Intentionally Unplugged with Denise Roland | Episode 31

Intentionally Unplugged with Denise Roland | Episode 31

This week's episode is with the founder of Intentionally Unplugged, aimed at equipping and empowering families to have healthy boundaries with technology.  Denise is a mom of 3 and a teacher, so she sees first hand the impact technology and screens has on her and her kids' lives.  She gives us some suggestions on how to navigate screen time with ourselves and with our kids, especially during these times when it seems like we are all required to be in front of a computer.

This interview really hits home with me because I struggle to separate with my phone and use it as a crutch whenever I'm bored, almost like a reflex.  I try to make a conscious habit of putting it away when I get home from work, but there always seems to be an excuse to take it back out.  Just know that you're not alone out there, and the tips from this episode can be beneficial to all of us!

Also, this will be my last episode as I take a break for a little while to "intentionally unplug".  Our second child was just born this week, so I want to take some time off of interviewing and editing and enjoy her and have some fun with my family!

I hope you enjoy the episode and please don't forget to leave a review, subscribe, and/or follow to help spread the mission of MOVRS!  Thank you!

Episode 7: The Sign of the Cross (or How an Ancient Practice Can Help Embody Connection with God)

Episode 7: The Sign of the Cross (or How an Ancient Practice Can Help Embody Connection with God)

Today, I invite you to engage in an ancient prayer of renewal: the Sign of the Cross. As you touch your forehead, chest and shoulders, and intentionally reflect along with me, you will become more mindful of the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit with and within you. Look for clarity and peace to wash over you as you connect your mind, heart, past and future in this present moment.

Episode 5: Mary, an Angel, and Imaginative Prayer

Episode 5: Mary, an Angel, and Imaginative Prayer

In this episode, we step into the Christmas story as the angel speaks to Mary. I invite you to engage in Mary's experience, responding to the promise of God born in her and considering the life that God has deposited in you. How will you respond to the angel’s words that nothing is impossible with God?

Episode 4: St. Patrick and Repetitive Prayer (Or How Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Can Take Us Someplace New)

This ancient prayer from Ireland’s beloved Saint Patrick helps center us again in the reality of (IN). Together, we'll contemplate the reality that Christ is in us as we are in Christ. Allow the reality of (IN) to expand in your heart and mind as you contemplate the prayer. The answers, the strength, the healing, the hope you need today are not out there somewhere. They are already here. Step (IN).

Episode 3: Rest. Receive. Respond. Remain. (Or It All Begins and Ends with Rest)

Episode 3: Rest. Receive. Respond. Remain. (Or It All Begins and Ends with Rest)

The worries and all the doing of life often leave us disconnected from God and ourselves. Through this listening and healing prayer experience, you're invited to move from worry and anxiety back to love. From a place of rest, we'll pray from Psalm 139, inviting Holy Spirit to search our hearts and show us what's in the way of connection.

Episode 2: Imaginative Prayer Experience (Because Seeing Really Is Believing)

Episode 2: Imaginative Prayer Experience (Because Seeing Really Is Believing)

Seeing really is believing. So today, we engage in a practice that will help us see and participate in a story told by Jesus. Watch how God is present to you as you engage your imagination and all your senses to see this story about a father and two sons. This practice of imaginative prayer from St. Ignatius gives us a powerful way to prayerfully reflect on Scripture.

Episode 1: Lectio Divina (Or Fancy Latin Words for a Prayer Experience)

Episode 1: Lectio Divina (Or Fancy Latin Words for a Prayer Experience)

Welcome to (IN).ten.tionally Rooted, ten (or so) minutes designed to help you connect more deeply with God and your true self. In this episode, we engage in an ancient practice known as lectio divina or sacred reading. Author Richard Foster describes it as “the kind of reading in which the mind descends into the heart and both are drawn into the love and goodness of God.” Are you ready to experience the high, wide, long and deep love of God today?

    • Obligation can easily win when it comes to setting our priorities of rest and play.
    • It doesn’t matter where you live, you still have to make a decision to be intentional about finding time to play
    • Adventure is available if you will go on a search to find it
