FRED ABONG is a Filipino-American indie / alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist –who upholds his reputation for creating a blend of “ragged Replacements and lyric-driven Bob Dylan” and as “Elliott Smith with balls”.

Getting his musical start in the 1980’s in Rhode Island as a drummer, bassist and guitarist in several hardcore punk bands, Fred Agong  is best known as the bassist in the early 1990s for the American alternative rock band THROWING MUSES and BELLY, as one of the original members. He then put music as a profession on hold for academic pursuits, earning a Ph.D in Humanities and serving as a professor at various universities for eight years before returning back to music. 

Continuing to write songs as a solo artist, Fred Abong's music has a raw and unpolished production aesthetic with an overall direct, though deceptively imaginative and oblique, presentation. Apart from his work as a solo artist,  he is also currently bass player in the KRISTIN HERSH ELECTRIC TRIO.

Formed in Oxford in 2019 Jody And The Jerms released their third full-length album called "Wonder" via JATJ Records. Prior to Wonder, they released Flicker in 2022 and Deeper from 2020. "Wonder," a collection of 12 tracks is produced, mixed and mastered by RIDE frontman Mark Gardener . Loaded with a healthy dose of melodic chrystallised indie pop that is heartfelt and honest, they present endearing jangle-pop songs that are both evocative and relatable.

Championed by the late Janice Long at BBC, among others, Jody and the Jerms is Jody Jeger (vocals) and Niall Jeger (guitars and vocals) with other band members coming from The Anyways, who have graced the pages of NME, played with Radiohead and Supergrass and were featured on Mark Radcliffe at BBC Radio 2. As a summer surprise for the world, they just released a new single called "Liberation" also produced by Mark Gardener.

Edinburgh's folk-rock Withered Hand released his latest LP called "How to Love" via Reveal Records, his first new music in nine years. Withered Hand is the project of Edinburgh-based singer -songwriter Dan Willson. On this album, Withered Hand continues to live up to his reputation as one of Scotland’s most gifted songwriters. He has garnered worldwide support and heavy airplay on tastemaker stations including BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio.

Produced, recorded and mixed by renowned producer Tony Coogan (Mogwai, David Byrne, Teenage Fanclub, The Twilight Sad and Sebastian, the Delgados ) at Castle of Doom Studios in Glasgow, the new album features guest appearances by King Creosote and Mercury- nominated English songwriter Kathryn Williams.

Willson began writing songs and singing in his thirties following the birth of his first childand the death of a close friend. With a wayward tenor and unaffected charm onstage, he has come to be celebrated as a songwriter and lyricist of rare wit and remarkable honesty.With songs picked up by MTV and cult series 'Skins', he's gained a legion of fans includingJarvis Cocker and Rolling Stone USA, who deemed him an Artist to Watch.

UK-France electronic duo, " The Noise Who Runs” released their full LP called "Preterertrospective." This follows their EP, "These Will Be Your Gods" and "High Time in Lo-Fi" their EP they released in mid 2022. 

The Noise Who Runs is the project of songwriter and performer Ian Pickering, best known as a member of and songwriter for the 90s British trip hop band Sneaker Pimps. "Pennies By The Pound" was formed by Frontman and songwriter Johannes Susitaival and Vesa Ranta in 2017 with the lineup expanded in the next few years by first Tomi Laaksonen and then Alexander Meaney, both musicians from previous projects. Having written for a variety of bands, Johannes began exploring his passion for alternative and progressive rock, which led to their self produced "Bloodshed and the Blinding Sunlight " EP in 2018 followed by their debut album "Heat Death of the Universe" in 2020.

The Helsinki-based band worked with Ride frontman Mark Gardener who mastered the track at his  OX4 Sound Studio in Oxford, and top national producer, Rauli Rake Eskolin who has had over a dozen No.1 records in Finland to his name in the past 20 years.   "Pennies By The Pound" will be releasing their upcoming concept album "Nothingside" via the Lilith label.

Martin Saint is the frontman for Montreal-based indie rock/ post punk quartet, The Ember Glows. Martin's latest album is called "Radio Murmurs," his fourth solo release since 2019, including his experimental spoken album "Fly Tales" that came out that same year. This new collection emerged during the pandemic with the specific intention to produce a full-length album. 

He said, the goal was to achieve a result similar to David Bowie’s "Low" album, with half the record featuring more accessible pop hooks and the other half more atmospheric and texture-driven. As always, lyrics aim at standing for themselves outside the music, as a major cornerstone of the ensemble.

Glimmers of Nick Cave, Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Simple Minds and The Doors infuse most of Martin Saint’s work and Radio Murmurs displaying these references a little at a time.

Alternative rock duo A Cloud of  Ravens will be unveiling their forthcoming album called "Lost Hymns" on April 28, 2023, via Nexilis Records/ Schubert Music Europe. The album is a collection mastered by Actors' Jason Corbett at the Jackknife Sound studio in Vancouver. Their latest single is out now called "Requiem For The Sun" which followed the singles "Nature of Artifice" and "The Blackest Mantra." 

Formed in 2018 by Matthew McIntosh and Beth Narducci they released their subsequent remix-based EP (Another Kind of Midnight- The remixes)  which features contributions by legendary producer John Fryer, Clan of Xymox, Actors, Chris Vrenna and Ritual Howls. 

Following the release of "Lost Hymns," on April 28, fans can look forward to their North American tour dates with Clan of Xymox and Curse Mackey.

I interviewed French dark wave project, Distance H, founded by Parisian producer ManuH  and I also interviewed singer, songwriter Liset Alea. 

ManuH's musical universe finds its source in post punk, dark wave, cold wave, ethereal and shoe gaze, sometimes borrowing some more electronic sounds.  His debut EP "Intimacy" was released January 2023, where he invites female singers to express the distances they wish to take from their experiences, those that are self-imposed, liberating, or those they would like to avoid.  He worked with  singer Liset Alea on a song called  "Reason to Rush," an impelling dream pop evocation, navigating the realms of reason and impulsiveness, luminous euphoria and its dark plunge.

Liset Alea  is  known for her long collaboration with Nouvelle Vague and her other independent works.

"Intimacy" features Liset Alea, Marita Volodina and Ophelia from Saigon Blue Rain.

Vancouver, Canada based, Hem Netjer creates dark electronic folk music. Inspired by the #MiddleEgyptian word for god's servant (Priest) they combine ancient stories, traditional instruments with modern technology. Haunting female vocals blended with deep throat singing and catchy synth lines create sounds that "moves the body and the soul."  

Raven Rissy  is the lead vocalist, songwriter and visual designer. She is classically trained in piano, clarinet, fiddle, harp, tagelharpa, rotta lyre and frame drum. Her Egyptology degree influenced their EP called Kemet, including the song "Anubis" sung in ancient Middle Egyptian. 

David Deckard combines traditional sounds and electronic music and specializes in digital sound design. As a computer programmer he experiments with different technologies and input devices with the goal to bring digital melodies to the stage in a way that feels as natural as a traditional instrument would.

Jesse Ellytt experimented with creating electronic music until discovering #throatsinging Using the traditional #tuvan style as a base, his deep reverberations mixed with digital basslines shapes into a unique combination of sounds and rhythms. His style of singing creates an experience that will be different each time a song is performed.

Sydney Australia's lead vocalist for Post Punk outfit Sounds Like Winter and Sequential Zero, Ant Banister is also the founder of record label Mantravision Productions.  Sounds Like Winter released three albums: Initiate, Sticks and Stones and Fight the Stairs. 

Sea Lungs is the musical collaboration between Melbourne, Australia's Jarrad Robertson and Sydney's Andi Lennon (Sounds Like Winter). 

Sea Lung have debuted their new single called "Truffle Pig" which reflects on the struggle for workers’ rights in times of extreme exploitation, particularly that of the working classes of the Gilded Age.

Since the start of her musical journey with Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard has created her own unique singing style. Her voice is her instrument that helped to establish the reputation of 4AD in the early 80s. 

As a highly acclaimed film composer winning a Golden Globe for her work on the score for Ridley Scott's Gladiator with Hans Zimmer, she also composed many other prominent features and award-winning movie soundtracks and a series of acclaimed solo and collaborative albums. 

Her most recent collaboration is with Los Angeles-based multi-talented composer and record producer Marcello De Francisci .Their latest album called "Exaudia" will be released on Atlantic Curve,  a London-based label subsidiary of Schubert Music Europe on August 26, 2022. Greek avant-garde singer songwriter, Lia Hide just unveiled her highly anticipated full-length LP, The Missing Fourth Guest, taken from Plato's Timeaus on Conch Town Records.

Hide is classically trained. Her songwriting is simple, pop, structured and lyrical, yet bears progressive music elements, embedding glitch and jazz fragments, cinematic guitars and orchestral layers, electronic sub drones, and industrial noises. Her virtuosity on the keyboard and the lyricism of her songwriting, along with her amazing solid rhythm section experiments on song lengths and arrangements, playing around with radio-friendly landscapes and post-punkish elements.

Hide has collaborated and appeared with musical artists such as Tricky, Joseph van Wissem, Anneke van Giersbergen, Keep Shelly in Athens, Molly Nilsson, Kovacs, Kadebostany, Robin Skouteris and many more.

Newphasemusic is one of the many projects of Portland, Oregon's Daniel P. Henderson, the drummer of the Neo psychedelic post-punk band, Trance to the Sun. Newphasemusic's debut single is called Starter. To celebrate the launch of the forthcoming album, Dan Milligan of The Joy Thieves And Rona Rougeheart of SINE contributed  slamming remixes and Colin C. of Slighter applied the final touches. Newphasemusic's full length album , The Dark Side of The Earth is set to be released later this year. Henderson has also performed with internationally known Tuvan throat singer Soriah, a Cure Tribute band called theXplodingboys, Devoured by Flowers and more recently, he joined Luscious Apparatus in  2021.

Luscious Apparatus blends cinematic soundscapes, synths, shoegaze textures, and syncopated percussion, to create a sound best described as Electrogaze or Noir Pop. Founded by Jack Norton as a studio project in 2019, the Portland, OR based act evolved during the great plague of the early 2020s with the arrival of Sandi Leeper on vocals. Catherine Hukle, a guitarist from Seattle, moved to Portland, providing the band's signature walls of sound and Henderson who joined on drums in 2021. All members are active in writing and producing for Luscious Apparatus. Luscious Apparatus  just released their second single, Bricks and Bones on Bandcamp and all streaming platforms.
