    Komponist versus Versicherungsvertreter

    Komponist versus Versicherungsvertreter

What I Did Last Summer: Kyra Ives on neuromuscular disease

What I Did Last Summer: Kyra Ives on neuromuscular disease

One of the trickiest parts of treating patients with neuromuscular diseases such as Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis is figuring out how to keep them active and moving.

Fourth-year medical student Kyra Ives dove in, spending one summer studying the effect of deep brain stimulators on patients with Parkinson's disease.

She and her team watched participants experience major differences in tasks involving gait and balance.

Through that work, Ives also uncovered a number of obstacles for people with both Parkinsons and MS.

That's something she and the mobility lab team analyzed more closely the next summer, after MS patients sent in photo dispatches of their daily lives.

Inside the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony - IP 148

This week we interview music journalist Brian Ives who shares everything that went down at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last Friday night. We discuss the history of the RRHOF, the controversies surrounding voting, memorable moments from the past, and the class of 2019 including The Cure, Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, and Janet Jackson. Brian discusses who showed up, who showed out and who pulled a no-show. Plus we discuss the artists Brian thinks should be inducted in future years and which artists don’t make the grade.

And in this week’s Big Sell, Amita rates new music from Tierra Whack and sells Sean on a one on one interview featuring cast members from The Good Place and Queer Eye.

Brad Root - Root Company, The First 50 Years - (017)

Brad Root - Root Company, The First 50 Years - (017)

The coming year, 2019, marks the 150th anniversary of the (AI) Root Company. On this episode, Brad Root - the great, great grandson of Amos Ives Root, joins Jeff & Kim on the podcast to discuss the first 50 years of the AI Root Company. When AI first came to Medina, Ohio, the home of the Root Company, he was jeweler in a building on the west side of the town square. It wasn't long before his many interests lead him to learn all he could about the honey bee, manufacturing and standardizing beekeeping equipment and writing about it all. Not only was AI the founder of the Root Company, he was the first editor of Gleanings in Bee Culture (now known as Bee Culture) as well as the first editor of the ABC & XYC of Bee Culture!

This is the first of three episodes we will present in this 150th year covering the Root Company history, in 50 year blocks.

    ____________

This has been an exciting first year of the podcast and we want to thank all the guests to the podcast, Pierce Manufacturing and Wicwas Press for their sponsorship of different episodes. Last and definitely not least, we thank you, the listener of the Beekeeping Today Podcast. Without your interest in all things honey bee and beekeeping, this labor of love would not be possible... or enjoyable!

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof

The Newman/Taylor love (well, hate) fest is the order of the day in the Next 121 Project. The Mississippi-living Pollitt family fuss and feud for the entire movie, but Newman’s booze-chugging Brick is their linchpin…for some reason. Burl Ives as Big Daddy actually out-acts his mendacious co-stars, but the script (or maybe it’s Tennessee Williams' play) lets them all down…in Bev’s eyes, at least. Is Brick’s critical character change from play to screen (see: homosexual/not homosexual) an unrecoverable mistake? It sure didn’t help. Only one single way to find out! And just before you stroke that play button, stumble over to Sparkplug Coffee for an order of beans. Use the discount code “top100project” and you’ll receive 10% off.
