    "Hot Dogs" w/ Jamie Loftus

    "Hot Dogs" w/ Jamie Loftus

Sorry, what was that? We couldn't hear you because we were reading the New York Times bestselling book RAW DOG by our illustrious guest Jamie Loftus. That's right, welcome to our first episode fully sponsored by a book — it's called elevating women's stories, sweetie! Jamie dishes on her cross-country hot dog road trip and we all swap hot dog anecdotes that range from the uplifting to the downright NASTY! Also discussed: the aesthetics of office buildings, the continued rise of post-meaning language, and the shadowy elitism of Los Angeles farmer's markets. So fire up the grill, throw some wieners on there, and smash that play button, because it's time to RELISH (!) another episode of the most lucrative podcast in North America.

    Titanic with The Bechdel Cast

    Titanic with The Bechdel Cast

Jordan and Brooke are joined by Caitlin Durante and Jamie Loftus (The Bechdel Cast) to discuss the biggest and best blockbuster of them all. Jimmy C's 1997 epic is one of the greatest love story ever told – but is it also secretly queer? We dive into filmmaker Celine Sciamma's love for this film's freeing subtext, Leo's androgynous look that awakened us all, Rose defying gender norms, Cal's campy villain performance, and gay icon Kathy Bates (aka the Unsinkable Molly Brown).

Jamie Loftus Wasn’t a Budding Journalist, She Had Friggin’ OCD

Jamie Loftus Wasn’t a Budding Journalist, She Had Friggin’ OCD

Right now, in Jamie Loftus’s childhood home in Brockton, Mass., there are dozens, maybe hundreds of notebooks in storage boxes. They’re from second grade up through middle school and each of the notebooks is filled, cover to cover, with detailed descriptions of where she was and what was happening: who was there, what were they wearing, what was on the walls. The descriptions are all written in a shorthand Jamie developed and that no one else could read. At the time, the adults in her life thought this indicated that she was a budding reporter. But no, it was obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Over time, her OCD would evolve into self-harm and put her in the emergency room. That’s where she found a doctor who understood her and could help.

Today, Jamie stays aware of her OCD tendency as she experiences a booming career in comedy and, yes, journalism, through her stage performances and podcasts. She says that she’s able to better control the same world that used to be so much more chaotic.
