Jack Black joins the star-studded cast in Warner Bros.' ‘Minecraft’ movie adaptation

In a recent development, acclaimed actor Jack Black has been confirmed to join the ensemble cast of Warner Bros.' highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the popular video game, Minecraft. This announcement comes on the heels of Black's notable role in another video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While details about Jack Black's character in the Minecraft film remain elusive, it is clear that the project is attracting top-tier talent. The movie, set to begin production soon in New Zealand, features a stellar cast including Jason Momoa, Matt Berry, Emma Meyers, and Danielle Brooks. Minecraft's plot will follow the Ender Dragon's destructive path, prompting a young girl and her unlikely group of adventurers to save the Overworld. Directed by Jared Hess and produced by Legendary, Vertigo, and Mojang, the film is expected to hit theatres on April 4, 2025.

BONUS: Throwback Interview with Indie Filmmaking Legend Jared Hess!

Here's a throwback episode from our 100th episode way back on May 8th of 2017 at the end of the 2nd year of the show! Jared Hess is the director of Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre and many others. For those who don't know Napoleon Dynamite basically became the most successful indie film ever and I don't think anything that low budget as achieved that level of success since (maybe paranormal activity). He's a working writer and a director, spending most of his time on TV and films. But the reason we wanted to talk to him was because he lived the dream we all have: making it into Sundance with our first film, winning a bunch of awards and getting whisked off to Hollywood to start a career. This conversation is a good match for Thom Harp, not because of the Sundance win but because he always works with the funniest of people in all of his movies, which is also true for Thom at the very start of his career!
