Building Self-Reliance To Survive Almost Anything (#469)

Building Self-Reliance To Survive Almost Anything (#469)
So I got something a little bit different for you this week. I recently was a guest on the Defender's Live Show with Laura Thorson to talk about the importance of self-reliance and how to become less dependent on the systems that so many have become accustomed to taking for granted. Well, the conversation took a few turns along the way as I'm sure you've come to known that I'm prone to do from time to time. I really enjoyed the show. And this week, I would love to share this interview with you on the topic of building self-reliance in your life.

    Self-Defense Lies

    Self-Defense Lies
You should already know that unarmed self-defense skills are a critical part of your protection plan - even if you carry a gun for everyday carry (EDC). But are your skills TRULY "Warrior-Ready" for the reality of a violent street attack? Overconfidence is risky. This week, I talk with Damian Ross of https://StreetDefenseTraining.com about the evolution of "self-defense"... how it got twisted... and a better way to plan out your personal hand-to-hand combat skills to keep you and your loved ones safe.

    Clerks (1994)

    Clerks (1994)

In this episode Jim & Adam chat about  Kevin Smith's cult-classic Clerks (1994) and also look through the filmmaker's cinematic back-catalogue as they talk about their love for his films.

Smith's black & white comedy stars  Brian O'Halloran & Jeff Anderson and presents a day in the lives of store clerks Dante Hicks and Randal Graves as well as their acquaintances.

It is the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films, and introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob.

As always be warned this recording is filled with spoilers and tangents a-aplenty.

How Much Ammo Should You Stockpile?

How Much Ammo Should You Stockpile?
So everyone loves the "idea" of stockpiling ammo… and it’s a good idea because if the sh*t hits the proverbial fan, you’re probably NOT going to wish that you had LESS ammo on hand, right? Especially when everything you have in your home can easily be taken from you by a single maniac – or a whole group of them. Like money, you really can’t ever have enough ammo. The reality of stockpiling ammo can be daunting, though. Maybe you feel like you have to invest 10 grand in six different calibers so you just end up buying nothing? Maybe you simply don't know how much you need... or what type of ammo is best to load up on? Well, "Ammo Dan" Morton is the founder of a company called AmmoSquared.com and he’s got an innovative solution to help you stockpile brass for the end of the world as we know it and take advantage of spikes in the price of ammo even if you don’t want to empty out your two-car garage and fill it up with .223 and 7.62×39mm.

    Defeating The Pain-Resistant Attacker

    Defeating The Pain-Resistant Attacker
Now, there's a truth in the combatives world that a lot of martial artists still refuse to believe. No matter how much you can make your training partner wince in pain when you are practicing that joint lock or that pressure move in that relaxed atmosphere of your local school. There are a number of individuals out there who no matter how much you try and Steven Seagal their joints they are not going to feel any pain; they simply won't be affected by your moves. But who are these pain-resistant attackers and more importantly how can you defeat them when you're forced to defend yourself against them? Find out with Jeff Anderson and Loren Christensen.

The Survival Mom's Survival Food Game Plan For Preppers

The Survival Mom's Survival Food Game Plan For Preppers
As you know one of our most basic needs, just to survive, is food. Judging from our climbing obesity rates, it's kind of obvious that food isn't hard to find. Whether it's at your local grocery store or any of the endless options of fast food restaurants that are out there. Now, we're very fortunate to be able to live in the land of plenty. But it's also made most citizens dependent on a re-supply chain that during disasters and other crises could come to a screeching halt, and force everyone to live off of only the food that we have accessible right now in our pantry, refrigerator, and cupboards to feed ourselves and our families. That's why one of the first actions prepared citizens begin to address for hard times is mapping out and alternative food plan that they can depend on when the grocery stores are picked clean, and there's no re-supply on the way. But while putting together your Plan B food options may sound simple, there are common mistakes a lot of people make that can sabotage your efforts when you most need to tap into your stockpile.

    The End of PTSD

    The End of PTSD
Yes, there really is a method for ending the suffering and symptoms of combat PTSD for our brave men and women who have sacrificed so much in defense of our country and our ideals. Better yet, the results from a breakthrough new method can erase symptoms that have plagued a veteran for decades permanently, without drugs, and all in just as little as one hour! Sound impossible? It’s not. Joining me for this week’s show is the creator of this powerful new treatment protocol, Michael Cortina. Whether you are a veteran looking for help, or someone who knows or loves a veteran that you’ve seen suffering, or even if you’re just a patriotic citizen who truly wants to support our troops and make a real difference, this episode could literally change your life.

Street Lessons: Gun Trainer and Son Attacked

Street Lessons: Gun Trainer and Son Attacked
No matter what type of self-protection training that you're looking for out there, unless there's some experience to back it up, most training runs the risk of being a little more than hypothesis or worse, really bad advice that could get you hurt or even killed if you had to put that training into use. The self-defense industry is filled with instructors who have never actually been in a fight before. And don't even get me started on the prepping space. However, for civilians who own a firearm, and especially for those who carry a handgun for everyday protection, there's incredible value in seeking out information from victims of real-life attacks to do an after action review of the lessons that they learned from their encounter.

Military Bugout Tips (3 of 3): "Top 10" En-Route Military Tactics for a Forced Bugout Evacuation

Military Bugout Tips (3 of 3): "Top 10" En-Route Military Tactics for a Forced Bugout Evacuation
Trust me, the "Top 10" tactics I have for you this week were ALL learned the "hard way" and my hope is that you NEVER have to use these strategies... but if you do, I promise you that each one of these tips will make a HUGE difference in your level of readiness while others will be suffering alongside the road. This is the final episode in this series on strategies you can use while en-route to your Plan B safe zone to help you arrive as FAST as possible and in the best SHAPE possible.

Military Bugout Tips (2 of 3): Bugout Bag Supplies For The Road

Military Bugout Tips (2 of 3): Bugout Bag Supplies For The Road
Too many preppers ignore this... When disaster strikes you might find yourself in a situation where you're not only forced to evacuate your home but have no other option than to walk to safety... and "safety" could be 100 miles away. Just 2 miles into your 100-mile journey, the reality will set in. Your sweaty feet are beginning to blister, you're losing precious time whenever you stop to drink water (which is quickly running out) and now that it's dark you're seriously terrified about getting separated from your kids or grandkids. You're learning a hard truth about bugging out every infantryman has learned the hard way: Your bugout bag is only as good as the gear you pack. You can have the best "bugout" bag in the world packed with high-tech gadgets and still end up dying 3 miles from safety because you overlooked the essentials. Last week I told you about the 10 essential features to look for in a bugout bag... this week, I'll share with you 11 things I learned (the “hard way”) to pack in your bag to avoid the pain and reach your destination safe and sound.

Military Bugout Tips (1 of 3): Choosing Your Bugout Bag

Military Bugout Tips (1 of 3): Choosing Your Bugout Bag
Bugging out on foot is not as easy as many prepared citizens may think it is. Being "light infantry" and in a combat MOS (job specialty) as a Forward Observer, I've had to walk with very heavy gear for as much as 100 miles. You learn a lot about what works and what doesn't I'll be doing a 3-part podcast series on tricks I've learned about how to get to your destination alive, and in the best physical and mental shape you can be in order to continue your mission. This episode will focus on: Episode 1: Choosing The Right Bag For A Long-Haul Bugout

    Shooting From Awkward Positions

    Shooting From Awkward Positions
We all know that a trip to the gun range can be a fun exhilarating excellent opportunity to practice your shooting skills. But let's be real shooting at a range is nothing like being in a real-life gunfight where those stakes are going to be much higher for you and the conditions are going to be unpredictable. Most likely the attack's going to happen in low light environments and forcing you to shoot from something that looks a lot different than that stable stance that you're used to practicing with down at the local range. That's why it's absolutely critical to train for these scenarios and to be able to shoot from less than desirable stances and alternative positions. Whether you are local law enforcement officer or you are a civilian gun owner your ability to quickly and accurately shoot from these positions could mean the difference between life or death in a real gunfight, you already know that. In this week's show we are going to explore why it's essential to train to shoot from less than desirable stances as well as the best tactics to use that are going to help you engage your attacker accurately from any position.

First time you saw the movie?

    Plot:

The View Askew Productions intro was creepy...with the clown?

-The whole smoking scene was terribly acted

-Dude says he spends $53 a month on cigarettes, that's $102 today. The average price of cigarettes is $6.96 according to https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/cigarette-prices-by-state; that works out to 14.7 packs of cigarettes a month, 3.7 packs a week. or 1/2 a pack a day.

-So it's supposed to be, like, 7 am...and two losers like Jay and Silent Bob are already out in front of the store? Those two would still be sleeping off last night of not getting laid.

-The sex discussion was a lot of dialoge - Yall ever discuss with your significant other your sexual past? 37 dicks does sound like a lot of dicks.

-The vhs return guy was a dick for no reason... it's not Dantes fault dude wasn't there.

-All the dialoge is very Kevin Smith

-There is leterally nothing happening... The whole Star Wars discussion reeks of over thought

    -The egg bit was weird

-This job would be great if it wasnt for the customers... very fucking true

-Super 90's move of roller hockey..I actually played roller hockey for a minute in the 90's.

-The scene where they talk about the girl who died, I realized I was really bored.

-Ever tried to suck their own dick...

-The scene where Dante confronts Caitlin about her engagement to an Asian design major in the video store is done in one shot, which lasts for over five minutes. It was shot on the first night of filming.

-The fight scene was terribly choreographed

-Kind of a lack luster ending... There is no resolution.

SMITH MAXED OUT HIS CREDIT CARDS TO MAKE THE FILM

Smith sold his comic book collection, received donations from family, and contributed a $3000 FEMA check from the loss of property in a nor’easter to make Clerks.

SMITH PLANNED AHEAD TO GET A SHOT OF A CAT DEFECATING.

In one scene, the cat that hangs around the store leaps onto the counter and defecates into a litter box in front of a customer. According to the DVD commentary track, Smith borrowed a friend’s cat for the scene.

THE QUICK STOP IS STILL OPERATING.

You can still buy eggs, milk, and cigarettes at The Quick Stop at 58 Leonard Avenue in Leonardo, New Jersey.
