We should all have courage like David Zaslav (; ̄Д ̄). Lord Gaben has been required to return to the US for court, more layoffs hit the game development world, and CD Projekt Red is really gearing up for the Witcher 4. Meanwhile The Hunger Games prequel is just wrapping up the box office, Taika wants to make sure his Star Wars will be good, and Chris Evans is totally unware of the return of Cap. JT comes out Pumping Iron and we discuss new show JUSTIFIED: CITY PRIMEVAL. The horse a coaster gets a little emotional on this one. BG tells us how changing your hair changes your reality. We rant about the dumbest light fixture ever made! BG tells us the cutest story about super CUTE CHINCHILLAS. We bring up The Golden Compass and ask what if our souls were tied to animals?  In Nature Science Corner we ask, ARE RABBITS CONSIDERED RODENTS? Do you know what animal kills the most humans every year? The answer might surprise you. We discuss population control methods and how some podcasts are so specific these days. We ask WHAT CAME FIRST? PET OR PETTING? We hear a story of Sheep eating hundreds of pounds of weed and BG's horse's older sister gets into the “SPECIAL TOMATOES”. Have you heard of the new CANADIAN "CULT"?

Boozy Beginnings - Justified: City Primeval

Boozy Beginnings - Justified: City Primeval

Happy Wine Wednesday! Jay Giles returns to the podcast this week to discuss one of our favorite fictional characters - Raylan Givens.  Long time listeners will recall that Jay previously joined me to discuss the Justified pilot and share reflections on the series as a whole, so it only made sense to have him back to discuss our thoughts on the first episode of Justified: City Primeval.

We follow the lead of the writers and kickoff our conversation with our thoughts on our re-introduction to Raylan Givens.  The writers wasted no time in giving us a peek into how Raylan has grown as both a father and a law enforcement officer since we last saw him in the Justified finale.

The "City Primeval" in this series is Detroit, so we discuss this new location for the next chapter in the Raylan Givens story and how it shapes the story and the world in which Raylan is now navigating.  OG Justified fans know that Detroit was definitely a location visited in the original series, but there's definitely a different feel to it now that the Motor City is the center of this season.

As with the original series, Timothy Olyphant is surrounded by a very talented group of actors.  Jay and I talk about how much fun it was to see talented actors like Vondie Curtis Hall, Aunjanue Ellis, Amin Joseph, and Keith David in the opening episode.

We talk about what was well done in the pilot, what didn't work so well, and our wishlist for the season.  And as always, we close out with the thirst segment and a few prompts inspired by this revival.

Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things,  we use adult language, and we have a great time!

    Thanks so much for listening.

YNFA 044: Gone in 60 Seconds, or Bland Theft Auto

Twist up your white girl dreads (or just don’t, actually) and let’s ride with Nic Cage in Gone in 60 Seconds. How angry is Jerry Bruckheimer that the Fast and the Furious franchise stole his thunder? Does this movie immediately take you back to the Year 2000 (insert requisite Conan audio cue)? Was there just no room in the budget to give Angelina Jolie even like a hint of character development? And Plot? Who needs a plot? You’ll get some answers if you can keep up with our need for speed.

The Crazies (2010 Remake) Review — Episode 135

The Crazies (2010 Remake) Review — Episode 135

Horror remakes are almost as much of a staple of the genre as sequels so it was no real surprise that studios started mining lower budget films made by iconic directors with the chance to do it all over again — this time with more money.

Paramount Pictures took that exact step after optioning a remake of the 1973 film called “The Crazies” by director George A. Romero. Scott Kosar, who had previously worked on the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “The Amityville Horror” was hired to write the script. Unfortunately, creative differences with original director Brad Anderson led to the project being shelved. It wasn’t until four years later that the film was revived under a new studio with Breck Eisner hired to direct along with a new script that was vastly different than the previous version.

While the main plot remained about a military grade biological weapon that accidentally gets dropped in a small town that transforms the people into homicidal psychopaths, Eisner had a different take that he would only focus on the victims rather than spend half the film dealing with the military like in Romero’s original work as well as the first script for the remake.

According to Eisner, he wanted to see this atrocity being carried out through the eyes of a few main characters from the town where tragedy strikes, which elevated the stakes and made this a much more horrific film….

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to turn off the tap water and hope we can escape town limits as we review the 2010 film “The Crazies”…

Scream 2 Review: Is This the Greatest Horror Sequel of All Time? —Episode 132

Scream 2 Review: Is This the Greatest Horror Sequel of All Time? —Episode 132

When Kevin Williamson was originally writing a script he called “Scary Movie,” he was so nervous about handing it over to his agent that he immediately began penning the opening scene to a potential sequel.

After sending those pages over to his agent, the idea struck them that they were no longer just selling a script to a studio — there were introducing them to a franchise. The film eventually became “Scream” and after a massive opening month in theaters, Miramax executives were frothing at the mouth for a sequel.

Because there was so much mystery surrounding the identity of the killers in the first film, Williamson knew he had to be extra secretive for the sequel so he wrote multiple endings and even had his assistant write a dummy script that got leaked with Dewey as the killer.

Williamson’s worst nightmare came true when the real script actually did get leaked but by then the dummy version had made the rounds and nobody believed the second one was legit. At that point it was just a time crunch with production because the studio wanted to release the sequel less than one year after the original hit theaters.

The follow up centered around Sidney Prescott heading off to college in Ohio but soon the past comes back to haunt her when a copycat Ghostface starts murdering people around her….

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to talk about the rules of the sequel and make sure the body count is higher as we review “Scream 2”…

Folge 1170: AMSTERDAM - Die beste Zeit unseres Lebens

Folge 1170: AMSTERDAM - Die beste Zeit unseres Lebens

We Dug Coal Together AKA The Justified Pilot

We Dug Coal Together AKA The Justified Pilot

Happy Wine Wednesday! This week a new guest to the podcast, Jay Giles, joins me on a trip to Eastern Kentucky for the pilot episode of the FX series, Justified.

We kick off the discussion by sharing what drew us to Justified and whether we read  the source material written by Elmore Leonard.  We then get into a deep dive of the pilot - starting with the very memorable standoff between Raylan Givens and Tommy Bucks.  Justified premiered in 2010, which was a much different world in terms of social awareness around police brutality, so Jay and I discuss whether or not this opening standoff between Raylan and Tommy would fly in 2022.  Although Raylan was very confident in the justification of his actions towards Tommy, we discuss whether we agreed with him.

Justified has a very memorable, catchy theme song so of course we share our thoughts about it and where it ranks among our favorite tv show theme songs.  We also talk about the choice to pair this hip-hop meets bluegrass song with this show featuring modern day cowboy Raylan.

Next, we get share our thoughts on our introductions to Boyd and Ava.  Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins were without question the standout performances in the pilot, so we talk about which actor left us wanting to know more about their respective character by the end of the pilot.

We give our elevator pitch as to why you should continue on with Justified if you have not watched the entire series.  We also briefly discuss the Justified revival currently in production and whether we plan to watch.  Spoiler alert - of course we do! We both loved Justified.

Jay is officially introduced to the podcast thirst segment.  He shares his thirsty picks from the pilot and also accepts my challenge to guest cast an actor/actress that he has a crush on that he would like to see in the Justified universe.

There's a brief spoiler discussion in the main discussion.  Thanks to podcast editor Daniel, you'll get an alert when that discussion begins and I've flagged it in the chapter markers.  The brief spoiler detour begins around 1:02:44 and ends around 108:16 - just in case chapter markers aren't supported wherever you listen.  After the main discussion concludes, Jay and I discuss our thoughts on the series as a whole.  As always, you'll get a heads up before that discussion begins.

I love you for listening! Please find and follow Jay on social media at the following links: Jay's Personal Twitter, Jay's Movie Talk, the Keda N Jay show, and TVZone Podcast Network.

    TPPP 61: Skinwalker Ranch

    TPPP 61: Skinwalker Ranch

Probably the most paranormal place that we have ever talked about headlines our 61st episode! The Skinwalker Ranch in Utah has shows, inspired different research institutions, both private and public, and has perplexed ranchers, scientists, and billionaires alike. And now, allow the stories and history to perplex you, as well.

Lisa tells of a whole rivalry between the native tribes of the Utes and the Navajo that resulted in this land being cursed. Jake tells a span of stories that range from alien to paranormal to downright gut-wrenching. And Davis beings us the third story of Timothy Olyphant and his adventures in Utah.

This episode is a ton and will bring you to the brink of the paranormal world. If you need to listen to any episode, it is this one, as we hit on things that are way more than paranormal.... Possibly. All this on the Possibly Paranormal Podcast and our 61st episode. TPPP 61: Skinwalker Ranch.

    TPPP 59: American Flag Ranch

Happy Fourth of July! Or rather Fifth of July, because that's when this one comes out, but oh well, close enough. We are getting into the western part of America, more than anything to see the pioneering days of this country. The American Flag Ranch, a post office, a ranch, a living abode, and a place for the paranormal!... Possibly.

Lisa keys us into the history of this very patriotically named location and how it at one point had a decent amount of people living in it. Jake has a story from some paranormal investigators that have experienced some of the craziest stuff. And Davis talks a lot more about his favorite actor from the show Deadwood. You know the one.

Pioneering the west, manifest destiny, and the lawlessness of the cowboys and outlaws are coming in the month of July. Davis is excited and you should be too. So let the tumbleweed roll along with the hills and deserts. Grab your ten gallon hats and chaps. Now, we ride into the sunset with The Possibly Paranormal Podcast, TPPP 59: American Flag Ranch.

Within 10 minutes of watching this film I could quote it by heart. It has been at least 10 years since I've seen it and it still has the same effect all these years later. What a refreshing film filled with heartwarming friendships, broken hearts, and one of the best ensemble casts!
