Welcome, citizen detectives! We’ve missed you! We've had a busy month of travels but we’re back to [hopefully] a somewhat regular schedule (lol but don’t quote us on that).

In Episode 74, hosts Alyce and Laura have* a lot to catch up on and not a lot of time to do it, so we’re hitting a few of the bigger items and recapping-on-tapping the end of The Book of Boba Fett and a few recent High Republic reads.

    • Laura finally watched Yellowjackets and this podcast may end up adding a whole ass Yellowjackets segment when season 2 drops
    • A big, wet, enthusiastic, whole-hearted THANK YOU to Jane for the ko-FI!
    • Love that people got to check out Galactic Starcrusier and share their experiences on social media, but from the looks of things, uh, yikes
    • Enjoy the moment in this episode where we congratulate ourselves on not being complete dicks

    • Apparently we missed an announcement about a Kenobi YA novel at some point, but we’re excited about it now

A Horror Movie Pop Culture Podcast Episode With A Plus One, It's Gonna Be A Scream!!!

A Horror Movie Pop Culture Podcast Episode With A Plus One, It's Gonna Be A Scream!!!

The first guest of the year for this latest entry in a classic scary movie franchise.  Scream is an iconic horror generation spanning decades with 5 fairly strong entries.  Some may be better than others, but this latest iteration from 2022 is the strongest since the first one, but let's not forget that Scream 2 is pretty quality as well.  This is also my first guest for season 3 of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies,  and boy do we go on all manner of tangents, horror and otherwise.  While we get around to Scream, the movies and TV shows, we also take on Hostel, to my dismay, Psycho,  Halloween, and so many more things.  And like I promised last episode, this is another does of therapy, grief, and trauma exploration/healing, now with a women's touch to boot.  So come listen to the latest fun entry in Scream as we all look ahead to the sixth entry to creep up on us soon enough!  What did you think of the latest pop-culture horror-laden flick to grace the big screen.  Let me know at NickNackMovies or NickNack_IC on every social platform including YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitter, and of course Letterboxd.

The Book of Boba Fett (Season 1)

The Book of Boba Fett (Season 1)

We were all epically reintroduced to the bounty hunter Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian and now he's got his very own Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett (Season 1). Does this solo adventure cement Boba Fett as the most ruthless bounty hunter in all the galaxy, or is it just a steaming pile of Bantha fodder poodoo. Find out as Jason Furie and Adam Roth dive into season one which took a few twists and turns that for better or for worse were completely unexpected.

    Hee hee. Wet.

In Episode 63, hosts Alyce and Laura catch* up on month’s worth of news and discuss the newest episodes of The Bad Batch

TFG Ep. 76: The Bad Batch: Ep. 12 "Rescue on Ryloth" Spoiler Special, Many Emmy Noms for The Mandalorian, Mark Hamill was Shocked to Reprise Luke Skywalker, New Disney Gallery Ep Coming, Actor Talks About Shooting Kenobi

In episode 76 of The Force Geeks: A Star Wars Podcast, Nate, Jake, and DailySuperhero.com Founder Daniel Wolf provide a spoiler review of the 12th episode of The Bad Batch, titled "Rescue on Ryloth." The geeks highlight the plot, and weigh in on whether what lies in store for Hera and her family as Clone Force 99 does their thing. They also discuss The Mandalorian's huge number of Emmy nominations. The Geeks outline all of them. Plus they dish on Mark Hamill's reaction that he was shocked when Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni asked him to reprise his role of Luke Skywalker. Hamill also shares the news about an upcoming Disney Gallery episode fully devoted to that epic The Mandalorian season 2 finale episode he appeared on.

The Geeks also gab about new photos revealing an Empire set from the upcoming Andor series, as well as actor Sung Kang on how special it is to be a part of the Kenobi series, and describes some of what he's seen (he refers to Jedi, as in plural). Plus Hasbro's HasLab has announced a huge reveal that toy collectors will be pumped about. Check it all out in this episode of The Force Geeks!

Episode 128: Summer Horror: A Perfect Getaway (2009)/ 'River' review

Episode 128: Summer Horror: A Perfect Getaway (2009)/ 'River' review

Special guest Adrian Amador joins us as Summer Horror takes us to Hawaii. It may not be horror (it may not even be summer), but 2009's A Perfect Getaway has strong summertime vibes to go with his A list cast. We also talk about confusing sci-fi drama 'River'.

Things start with Dune's two and a half hour runtime. Movies have gotten longer over the years, but is that an excuse? We also talk about the minimalist approach to the poster and the importance of highlighting the entire cast.

The Cannes Film Festival has seen a bevy of interesting movies and news. One of the most interesting things to come out of the fest is the word of a possible new franchise. We discuss whether we would see and if it is the most depressing movie series ever.

Sticking with theme of sad movies, the four review one of the saddest movies of the year. River is a supposed science fiction drama. It is filled with bad writing, a nonsensical plot twist, and stilted acting. It does not get much sadder than that.

A Perfect Getaway from 2009 will stand out among the movies covered during Summer Horror Month. It has a cast filled with big budget stars and does not have many horror elements. It's serial killer reveal may be a little too obvious, but does that prevent it from being fun?

    Justified

    Justified
Justified may have been a victim of the golden age of television. Matt and Tony both had it on their radar - how could it not have been - but for whatever reason the critically-acclaimed FX series never grabbed them. This week, they take the opportunity to finally catch up with deputy US marshall Raylan Givens, and the cast of cops and ne'er-do-wells of the show's Harlan County, Kentucky. They also discuss the show's source material, the novella "Fire in the Hole," and the novel "Pronto," both written by Elmore Leonard and featuring the cowboy hat wearin' lawman portrayed by Timothy Olyphant. As always, they'll discuss why they had held off on the show and why now seemed like the time to ctach up. They'll also discuss how a show about a "plays by his own rules" lawman and a white supremacist militias plays differently in the wake of the last few years, the differences between Raylan on the screen and on the page, and whether or not season one has them excited about continuing with the show.

Who Would Watch 'I Am Number Four'?

Who Would Watch 'I Am Number Four'?

I am number four is the first in the Lorien Legacies series. It follows 'four', a boy with magical powers from an alien planet, who must survive the aliens known only as the Mog, after they kill 'one', 'two' and 'three'. Sounds dumb and it is, but it is also boring! Carl and Oscar sit through this snooze-fest to figure out who would watch this.

What if a virus caused you to become violent and murderous?  The Crazies and Mayhem both explore this topic but in very different ways.   Knowing what we now know about how a virus can disrupt the entire world, there seems to be no more fitting horror scenario than the threat of a global pandemic potentially ending life as we know it.  We also close out the show with a fun Head2Head selecting the Best Horror Masks!
