The Tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

The Tale of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

A new candidate for the Midnight Society, insufferable San Francisco hipster Robert Louis Stevenson, attempts to impress the Pals with the story of Henry Jekyll, a Victorian psychiatrist. On the steamship home from a business trip, Jekyll's seemingly chance meeting with a certain Edward Hyde will change his perception of reality forever. In a twist so unexpected that nobody even knows it's a twist, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde turn out to be the same person! An adrenaline-fueled social satire of mischief, mayhem and soup.

Content notes: swearing, discussion of colonialism and colonial violence, mention of death, murder and cannibalism, guns, explosions, themes of mental illness and dissociative identity.

    #046 - THE MANSTER (1959)

    #046 - THE MANSTER (1959)
    JEKYLL & HYDE MACHEN URLAUB!

Heute heißt es: Wünsch dir was!

Anne M. Stiles: Professor that teaches about monsters, vampires and mad scientists.

Anne M. Stiles Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at the University of Saint Louis in the English Department.  She teaches students about the parts of literature that are filled with monsters, vampires and mad scientists.  She has teaches undergrads and medical students in hopes that they develop a love of literature and the ability to articulate their arguments.

Vance and Anne sat down to talk about Christian Science's impact on children's literature and then discussed Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, and even the secret garden.  Stiles's research explores intersections between literature, science, and religion.

From her biography "[Stiles] is the author of Popular Fiction and Brain Science in the Late Nineteenth Century (Cambridge UP, 2012) and the editor of Neurology and Literature, 1866-1920 (Palgrave, 2007). She also co-edited two volumes published by Elsevier in 2013 as part of their Progress in Brain Research series."

Jekyll and Hyde episode 2 - Importance of Place

Jekyll and Hyde episode 2 - Importance of Place

In the fifth edition of RevisionPod, Mr Gallie and Mr Forster look at the importance of place in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Find out why the end of term brings out every teacher's inner Hyde, why London was once a labyrinthine nightmare that played host to all sorts of terrible debauchery and why you should most certainly never judge a book by its cover (or a man by his house).<p>
