Episode 161 | Stop, Listen and Do Something

Is your spouse okay? How do you know? Have you had a conversation with them lately asking them how they are REALLY doing?

We help so many people at work, in our extended family, and in our neighborhoods. So often we just want to be present, ready and willing to jump in and lend a hand. If that's you, that's awesome! That means you are trying to be a good human, trying to live the way that Jesus would want you to live. But what about your spouse? When was the last time you looked them in the eye and had a deep conversation about how they are doing? Are you ready to stop, listen and do something if you suddenly hear and see the warning signs that your spouse is in need and hurting?

Join hosts Travis and Dawn Rosinger as they talk through key steps to help any couple in their marriage be the kind of spouse that shows concern, kindness and care. This episode will cause you to reflect on how your spouse might be doing and your readiness to jump in and help them!

Travis and Dawn Rosinger are the Loving The Fight Marriage Podcast Hosts and Authors of the books, Verbalosity - 7 Steps to a Verbally Generous and More Fulfilling Marriage and their newest book, Gripping -  What Matters Most | A Life and Relationships That Hold on to You

Ep 019: It's ok to not be ok, but...

… it’s what you do next that matters the most. Today Liz is going through something emotionally and she unpacks it in real time during the recording. As an empath, she takes on the feelings of others in a very real and deep way and typically, she would allow herself to spiral when this would happen. However, she refuses to continue along that path and is determined to break that cycle.

She and Jason discuss men's mental health and how, generally speaking, men are not likely to reach out to their closest person, let alone a mental health professional, to talk about the issues they are facing. Liz shares just one facet of her experience with mental health challenges and how she deals with them now, being a follower of Jesus.

Liz referenced this TikTok in the episode and believes everyone should watch it and realize that just because someone always looks happy, it doesn't mean they aren't struggling on the inside.

Jason brings up the timeliness of this episode as the holiday season is right around the corner and a lot of people struggle with feelings of loneliness and despair during what should be the most wonderful time of the year. Liz challenges those people to not suffer in silence and instead, reach out to someone and ask if they can tag along at Thanksgiving dinner!

Episode 158 | Call on God and He Will Answer

Episode 158 | Call on God and He Will Answer

Talking to an old friend can be so helpful and needed, especially when you are feeling disconnected from others or troubled by something difficult in your life. Why is that someone who knows us so well can soothe our pain or bring hope as they provide encouragement about who we are and what we are capable of? Why? It's because they know us so well, maybe better than anyone else. God is the same way. He knows you better than anyone. He made you. Just like you can call or text an old friend and they will be there for you, you can also do the same with God . He is always available and always ready to hear from you and speak words of love to your soul, words of encouragement and life.

Join hosts Travis and Dawn Rosinger as they remind us all about the availability of God in a world that offers almost everything instantly along with filling your schedule with an overwhelming amount of possible activities. Distractions abound but God is the one source where you can draw your attention to bringing peace, faith and joy. This episode will remind you of the importance of connecting with God!

What's Your Downfall? - Resisting Temptation & Sin

What's Your Downfall? - Resisting Temptation & Sin

    Show Notes:
I recently read a definition for repentance: “a change of mind; a turning from sin, accompanied by a turning to God”

Matthew 18:3, “The he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

The point of repenting is to admit to something you know you shouldn’t have done or been involved in, ask God for forgiveness & return back to Him. But we sometimes forget about the ‘return to Him’ part & just take His forgiveness for granted & believe it will all be fine because we repented.

There needs to be GENUINE repentance & humbling from us for it to mean something.

2 Chronicles 7:14, “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”

But it can feel difficult to get from under sinful behavior because our heart for God is fighting the desire to be like the world & fit in with all their foolishness.

1 John 2:15-16, “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”

Here are my 4 tips on how to resist temptation less:

    1. Pray About Everything
      1. There is nothing too small you could pray about. And if you pray about EVERYTHING, you will pray about this thing you are tempted to do & probably end up not doing it.
      2. James 1:5, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
    2. Read the Bible Daily
      1. Spend time in His word. Really read it & study it to truly understand the context, the nuances & the specific message being given.
      2. Psalm 119:11, “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
    3. Don’t Compromise Yourself
      1. If you’re in the vicinity of where temptation and sin are about to go down, you gotta leave.
      2. 1 Corinthians 10:13, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
    4. Ask Yourself, “Is this Christ-like behavior?”
      1. Honestly ask yourself if what you are about to do is something Jesus would participate in. And allow the Holy Spirit, which you receive when accepting Jesus into your heart, to guide you in what you do.
      2. Galatians 5:16, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”
      3. Romans 12:2, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

You Don't Have to Be Perfect to Start - God Gives You Strength

You Don't Have to Be Perfect to Start - God Gives You Strength

    Show Notes:
God wants us to surrender our lives to Him & ask for His help.

But, we often live to impress the world instead of honoring the Father of Everything.

Galatians 1:10, “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”

We think everything needs to be perfectly planned & ready to go before we can take that next step.

Matthew 11:28-30, “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’”

But we don’t. God is the only one that loves completely unconditionally. He wants us to come to Him, battered & broken, willing to surrender it all to Him

Romans 5:8, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Here are 5 tips I have for you to no longer allow the need to be perfect or ready get in your way of taking the next step:

    1. Stand Up to Your Insecurities
      1. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So not I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
      2. God’s strength is seen through our vulnerabilities.
    2. Practice Giving Grace & Forgiveness to Yourself & Others
      1. God calls us to forgive others & extend grace, just as He did and does every single day.
      2. Ephesians 4:32, “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
    3. See Your Life as a Way to Serve God & Others
      1. Give your life to God so He can use your life to save someone else.
      2. Galatians 6:9-10, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
    4. Trust God, as You Have With Other Things
      1. If you’re still stuck on how to trust Him, just ASK Him to help you trust Him.
      2. God has done SO MUCH for you already, so why not trust Him now?
      3. Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.”
    5. Spend TONS of Time in Prayer
      1. Prayer doesn’t need to ONLY be reserved for quiet time/devotional time. You can pray any time you want.
      2. Philippians 4:6-7, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
