THE REZZONATORS: The sum of their parts makes them so much more than a rock & roll band

THE REZZONATORS: The sum of their parts makes them so much more than a rock & roll band

The Rezzonators are a band out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin who at first glance you might think is simply your basic rock & roll band, but that's where you'd be wrong. All you have to do is give a listen to their album Dream River & Other Tales of Adventure to get the bigger picture. Each member of the band brings something unique to the mix and makes them much more than what you might expect. Yes, they can rock out and when they do, you wanna crank it. But as you listen, the depth of their skills and talents is revealed in both songwriting and performance and you'll find yourself going back for listen after listen. The Rezzonators are a breath of fresh air in the Wisconsin music scene.

Ep. 222 - AUDLEY FREED ("Peace Pipe")

Ep. 222 - AUDLEY FREED ("Peace Pipe")

    SUMMARY:
Audley Freed founded the band Cry of Love before going on to become a well-known guitarist for the Black Crowes, the Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow, and many others. He sits down with Songcraft at his Nashville home to go deep on his own fandom, the kind of musician he tries to be, and how his riffs have kickstarted some great songs.

    PART ONE:
Paul and Scott geek out over the new Black Crowes single and review that band's role in their friendship, give some background on this historically unique Songcraft episode, and much more.

    PART TWO:
Our in-depth conversation with Audley Freed

    ABOUT AUDLEY FREED:
Musician and songwriter Audley Freed launched his career with the band Cry of Love. Their debut album Brother, on Columbia Records, spawned two #1 and two Top Ten AOR hits, including the Freed co-written “Peace Pipe,” named by Billboard magazine as one of the “top 50 AOR songs of all time.” After a second Cry of Love album, Freed went on to join The Black Crowes. Spending three years with the band, he performed on the album Lions and the Gold-certified double live album Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes: Live at the Greek. He has toured as a guitarist with Jakob Dylan, Peter Frampton, Joe Perry, The Dixie Chicks, and many others, and has played on albums by Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss, Kenny Chesney, and more. Audley has been a member of the bands Big Hat and Trigger Hippy, and has been a member of Sheryl Crow’s band for more than a decade. As a songwriter, his music has been recorded by Chris Robinson, Gov’t Mule, Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allison Moorer, Train, Gary Allan, and Wade Bowen, among others.

Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

Ep. 212: Shredding The Tomb - Guitars That Rocked Our World

This week we continue the discussion that we started at the end of our last show; with our admiration of the almighty power of the guitar and the guitar hero! This time around we are going to play guitarists, or guitar passages or leads in songs that caught our ears at some point in our lives that made us truly stop and listen. It’s not always about the training, finesse, dexterity, or speed a player has or even the style of music or song that is being played. If you are into guitar and the sound of strings being plucked and bent then you know… It’s just something you feel deep down that gets to your heart and soul!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Guitar World and Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard! Be sure to also check out the Jason Becker documentary “Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet” that we mention.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Anvil Chorus – “Blue Flames” from The Killing Sun (2009)
    2. Kirk Hammett – “The Jinn” from Portals - EP (2022)
    3. Bruce Kulick – “Ain’t Gonna Die” from BK3 (2010)
    4. Buckethead – “Welcome To Bucketheadland” from Giant Robot (1994)
    5. Tears For Fears – “Broken” from Songs From The Big Chair (1985)
    6. Psycho Motel – “Welcome To The World” from Welcome To The World (1997)
    7. Cacophony – “Go Off!” from Go Off! (1988)

The Rise of the Trump Effect and the Global Shift Towards Conservative Values

The Rise of the Trump Effect and the Global Shift Towards Conservative Values

The world is experiencing a seismic shift - the rise of The Trump Effect. This unshakeable belief in nationalism and patriotism, the drive for accountability of the powerful, and the rejection of radical left ideologies is sweeping across nations and altering global politics. As examples, we look at Geert Wilder's election in the Netherlands and the election of conservative Javier Milie in Argentina and how the people of Ireland are rising up against their immigrant crisis.

E162: Led Zeppelin — Ranking The 1973 Versions Of "No Quarter"

E162: Led Zeppelin — Ranking The 1973 Versions Of "No Quarter"

In this episode, building off of last week's discussion of Led Zeppelin's 1973 North American Tour, we rank the 1973 versions of "No Quarter," just as we did for the 1975 versions two years ago in Episode 40, and for the 1977 versions last year in Episode 104.

    E161: Led Zeppelin — North America '73 (w/ledzepfilm)

    E161: Led Zeppelin — North America '73 (w/ledzepfilm)

In this episode, joined by one of my best musical friends and collaborators, ledzepfilm, we discuss Led Zeppelin's record-breaking 1973 North American Tour in celebration of its recently-concluded 50th anniversary. I first discussed this tour three years ago, way back in Episode 7, so it was a lot of fun to put it "under the microscope" once again...

This episode is really the third instalment in a trilogy of '73 Zeppelin episodes this year, as ledzepfilm and I also discussed their 1973 United Kingdom Tour in Episode 124, and their 1973 European Tour in Episode 139.

Additionally, ledzepfilm first joined me back in October 2021 to discuss Zeppelin's 1971 Japanese Tour for its 50th anniversary — Episode 67.

I highly recommend you follow ledzepfilm on all platforms, as he is, in my opinion, the best in the community at syncing concert footage with the best available audio.

Stay tuned for next week, when we will rank the 1973 versions of "No Quarter" in Episode 162!

Ep. 179: Retro Relapse Regurgitated Revival Revision

Ep. 179: Retro Relapse Regurgitated Revival Revision

This week we are discussing what the interweb calls the New Wave Of Classic Rock! There have been bands doing the retro-rock thing for years, but this phenomenon seems to be gaining momentum lately and we decided to focus on new-ish bands that have released albums in the last year or so. Indeed, rock n’ roll is not dead and is in the very capable hands of these killer new classics!

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. The younger generation is picking up guitars and playing that classic blues-inspired hard rock again! This retro rock thing is not quite as new as the interweb is making it out to be, but who cares? It’s a breath of freshly regurgitated air!Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Rival Sons - “Guillotine” from DARKFIGHTER (2023)
    2. Classless Act - “This Is For You (w/ Justin Hawkins)” from Welcome To The Show (2022)
    3. Thunderpussy - “Firebreather” from Firebreather - single (2023)
    4. The Cold Stares - “Nothing But The Blues” from Voices (2023)
    5. Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown - “Burnin’” from Dirty Work EP (2023)
    6. Donna Cannone - “Pushed” from Donna Cannone (2022)
    7. Jared James Nichols - “Skin ‘n Bone” from Jared James Nichols (2023)
    8. Crown Lands - “Dreamer Of The Dawn” from Fearless (2023)

Ep. 170 - The Boleskin House & Killer Security

Hey Campers, get away from that Loch and over to the fire, we got some stories to tell. This week we tell you about the Booeskin House, the haunted home of Aliester Crowley and Jimmy Page right on the coast of Loch Ness, Scotland.  We also tell you about Neil Fall, a killer security guard who’s secret past may hit closer to home than some of us would like.

    E124: Led Zeppelin — UK '73 (w/ledzepfilm)

In this episode, joined for the first time since Episode 67 by my good friend, ledzepfilm, we discuss the 1973 portion of Led Zeppelin's UK tour in the Winter of 1972-73. It's a tour I wasn't very familiar with going into this exercise, and I was pleasantly surprised…

SE 3, EP 6: Memorial Podcast: Jeff Beck, Truth

SE 3, EP 6: Memorial Podcast: Jeff Beck, Truth

On this memorial episode of This Is Vinyl Tap, we discuss the life and legacy of one of rock’s most unique and imaginative guitarists, Beck. We focus on his 1968 groundbreaking album Truth.

After his very successful, but short-lived, stint in the Yardbirds, Beck began to work on his next project. Finding an amazing supporting cast in singer Rod Stewart, bassist Ron Wood, and drummer Mickey Waller, Beck recorded an album that used the foundation of the blues to build something that was unlike anything else at the time. Beck was often called a “guitar player’s guitar player” and Truth, full of guitar wizardry, definitely backs that sentiment up. Truth was heavier, dirtier, and louder than anything that had come before it and remains an album whose impact and influence continues to be far reaching.

Resolutions? Nah, try One Word with Dan Britton, Ep. 97

Resolutions? Nah, try One Word with Dan Britton, Ep. 97

This is episode 97 of the C-10 Podcast, and with December 31st in our sights, this is the last episode of 2022.

What's the significance of those two things?

Well, they're both tied to this week's guest.

First off, this week’s guest, Dan Britton, happens to be the same person who joined us for episode 94 about a month ago. The second part of that — and the reason he’s joining us so soon after his previous chat — is because of a book that he co-authored a few years ago called “One Word.”

Are you a New Year's Resolutions kind of guy or gal? Instead of setting a resolution, which statistically speaking won't be successful, how about focusing on one word that can change not only your year, but your trajectory for the next several years.

Dan will share a three-step gameplan to finding your word and then sticking to it.

"One Word" is one of about 20 books that Dan has authored or co-authored.

By day, Dan serves as the Chief Field Officer with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He has been on staff since 1990, serving first as field staff in Northern Virginia for 13 years before moving to Kansas City to join the executive leadership team.

As Chief Field Officer, he travels extensively around the world to work with thousands of leaders in more than 100 countries who are passionate about and called to sports ministry.

    E120: Led Zeppelin — UK '72 Tour 50th Anniversary

In this episode, we discuss the 1972 portion of Led Zeppelin's 1972-73 UK Tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of said shows. I wasn't too familiar with this tour heading into this exercise, but I really enjoyed it — and think you will too!

    E119: Led Zeppelin — Vancouver '71 Review

    E119: Led Zeppelin — Vancouver '71 Review

In this episode — a most welcome surprise addition to the schedule — we review the recently-surfaced recording of Led Zeppelin's long-sought-after August 19, 1971 concert at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia. This was the opening night of their 1971 North American Tour.  It contains one of just four complete versions of "Gallows Pole" on record, a fairly rare cover of Eddie Cochran's "Weekend," and is arguably Robert Plant's last show with his true peak vocals...
