Bringing the Ark Home - The Books of 2 Samuel & 1 Chronicles

In this Bible Story, we learn about David returning the Ark of the Covenant home to the people of Israel. However the revelry was quickly replaced by fear as Uzzah was struck down when he touched the ark. When the ark finally returned to Israel, David leaped for joy and danced among the people. He took off his kingly robes, which angers his wife. However David would not be embarrassed to show his love for God. This story is inspired by 2 Samuel 6 & 1 Chronicles 13, 15-17. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.

Today's Bible verse is 2 Samuel 6:16 from the King James Version.

Episode 99: With the battles of the Philistines now won, David sought to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Judah. Uzzah and Ahio carried the Ark on an ox-driven cart. But as they were on their way, the cart hit a bump and the Ark almost fell. Uzzah instinctively reached out to catch it, but this was not for him to do and so he died. David, furious and confused, kept the Ark at the home of Obed-Edom for three months. Then David sought again to move the Ark to Jerusalem, this time seeking God and offering sacrifices as he went. As the Ark entered the gates, all of Israel celebrated with loud shouts and dancing! All except Michal.

And in his arrogance, he walked into the temple of God without a priest and began to burn incense, as if he were a priest, beginning his downfall.

    Athaliah: A Truly Evil Queen

    Athaliah: A Truly Evil Queen

I usually try to find some connection to each of the women we study, but I’m having a hard time with today’s woman. Remember back when we talked about Jezebel and we thought she was bad? Well, she’s nothing compared to her daughter Athaliah. Ladies, that Athaliah, was one evil woman.

I usually try to give us a takeaway and show how we have something in common with the women we study, but I really hope there’s no one listening who can relate to Athaliah.

I’m sure, though, there are some women who have your eyes on a goal and are fixated on reaching that goal. Perhaps, like Athaliah, you feel handicapped by being a woman in a man’s world, so you think you have to be more aggressive and do whatever you have to do, trampling over everyone else, to reach your goal. Oh, ladies, there’s nothing wrong with chasing dreams, but please consider the cost. Is it worth it to gain the prize if you lose your loved ones in the process? You may not actually murder, but you can still do damage by the way you treat others.

We’re all leaving a legacy of some kind. Good or bad, no matter who we are, we are impacting others around us. Oh that we might leave a positive influence and not be used as an example of what not to be.

All God's Women is a Bible study podcast where we journey through the Bible one woman at a time. If you enjoy learning about women in the Bible, tune in each week to learn about a different Bible woman.

008: But Evil Is Winning God

008: But Evil Is Winning God

When evil seems to be winning, we have to remember three things about God:

    1. God will bring redemption of out the enemy’s evil plans. God not only saves Joash, but uses Jehoshabeath to redeem the role of women. We also see that Jehosheba and Jehoiada together are agents of redemption for marriage. Redemption is one of the most beautiful themes in the Bible. God creates something good but it’s subverted for evil – then comes in again and redeems it, giving it back the purpose and goodness it was always meant to have. The throne in Judah was meant for the royal seed. Athaliah tries to taint it, but her plan backfires and she is destroyed.
    2. God will bring His promise/plan to pass. With God, life always arises out of death. With Joash hidden, God’s plan was quietly unfolding with the passage of each year. The ascension of Joash to the throne is evidence of God’s continued faithfulness to His promise made to David in I Samuel 7.
    3. God will bring justice according to His sovereignty/timing. The death of Athaliah shows that God sometimes metes out justice in temporal matters. We see this happen in both Old and New Testaments. However, God does this according to His own wisdom and for our good.
