Team Deakins has a great time talking with director, Joe Wright (ATONEMENT, THE SOLOIST, DARKEST HOUR). He shares what he loves about films and how he loves the craft of it. He talks about the importance of casting correctly and how he works with actors and how important rehearsals are. We learn how he preps with a cinematographer and what he looks for in a cinematographer. Also, he shares why he chose to do The Darkest Hour, how he likes to work with the same crew and actors and how he learns from the process of making films. A fascinating conversation with a talented director!
Although it has Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore and an intriguing premise, Netflix's The Woman in the Window is panefully awful.
"Come back to me." Als je die woorden niet vaak genoeg kunt horen, is Atonement (2006) van regisseur Joe Wright een dikke aanrader. Keira Knightley en James McAvoy zeggen het in elk geval heel vaak tegen elkaar in dit zeer romantische arthousedrama met een literair randje. Want het gaat om een verfilming van het gelijknamige boek van Ian McEwan.
En Atonement is ook het verhaal van de jonge Briony (Saoirse Ronan) die iets ziet wat ze niet helemaal begrijpt en er daardoor voor zorgt dat de lover van haar zus in de bak belandt. En vervolgens in Frankrijk op de vooravond van de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Kostuums, one-takers, een heerlijke schurkenrol van Benedict Cumberbatch. Joe Wright neemt het er duidelijk van!
Voorvechter van deze film is filmmaker en podcaster Lauren Walet. Als je nog niet hebt geluisterd naar haar gesprekken met Phebe in Filmpraatjes de Podcast, wordt het eens hoog tijd. Ze hebben al themashows gemaakt over onder andere Wes Anderson en Saoirse Ronan. En... maandelijks nieuwe afleveringen! Maar nu is Lauren dus bij ons te gast om het te hebben over de pracht van Atonement.
En verder gaat het ook over wijlen Brian Dennehy, de schrijfkwaliteiten van het personage Briony en over hoe Lauren mensen de Pathé-bioscoop uit laat zetten. Op terechte momenten uiteraard!
