Interview: Rick Remender - NAPALM LULLABY #1 (on-sale 3/13) Art by Bengal

    1. Rick, thanks for being on the AIPT Comics podcast. To start, Napalm Lullaby…what a killer title. How did you come up with it?
    2. This series plays around with theocracy and societal decay, what made these themes important for this series?
    3. You and Bengal have worked together before, what made them right for this project?
    4. While this is a sci-fi story with some incredible world building going on, it also opens with a flashback that features an origin that has a familiar ring to a certain superhero. Is this where the bud of the story germinated for you?
    5. There’s some high-tech sci-fi stuff going on in Napalm Lullaby, do you ever craft future tech with the thought this could be our future, or is it about achieving something in the story more than anything?
    6. There are some sexual scenes in the first issue, which reminded me of the UCLA report saying Gen Z wants less sex in TV and movies, and comics tend to lack them, where do you stand when it comes to sexual themes in their comics?
    7. I understand you just signed a 3-year deal with Image and your company Giant Generator. Aside from say, number of titles released, is there a goal you’re trying to reach by the end of the 3 years, or a credo you follow with each project?

Phil Here:  Sorry about the constant brain-farting in this episode.  Getting up so early in the morning sucks for a night person.  Anyway, Hellblazer was Vertigo's most important book, I think, but it seems like not so many people talk about it, sometimes.  Well, we did!  You may be asking yourself, what did Phil look at for research?  Well, answers follow:

    Season 8 Finale: Power Ranking

    Season 8 Finale: Power Ranking

Welcome to the conclusion of Season 8, where every comic will get what's coming to them! In a break from tradition, instead of a single-elimination bracket tournament, we will be power-ranking all the comics to determine a quality lineup.

Veronica's theme was Hell. Monte's theme for this season was Superman. The comics we read were:

    Hellboy: Seed of Destruction #1-4
    Superman: Birthright (2003) #1-12
    Ghost Rider, vol. 7 (2011) #0.1-5
    Action Comics (1938) #866-870
    Spawn #1-5
    Superman: Red Son (2003) #1-3
    Hellblazer #41-46
    All-Star Superman (2005) #1-12
And since this isn't a bracket and we can have an un-even number, let's throw in the bonus comic America: The Life and Times (America vol. 1 (2017) #1-6) for a round 9!

Next week we will be beginning our Webcomics Mini-Season, which will include:
Super Late Bloomer, by Julia Kay
Oglaf (oglaf (dot) com, NSFW), by Trudy Cooper and Doug Bayne
    And @adamtots (Adam Ellis)'s webcomic

Once the mini-season is over, we will embark upon our long-awaited Uber-Tournament, in which the winners of all the previous seasons will face off to determine the Uber-Winner, and all will be destroyed except the One True Best Comic!

    S8E7 - Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits

    S8E7 - Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits

What makes us like antisocial heroes? Where's the line between their good and bad qualities? And what's the risk of stories that don't understand that elusive quality?

Join us this week as we discuss Hellblazer: Dangerous Habits, a story of John Constantine facing his demons as he desperately searches for a way to save his own life--and his soul. Despite what you may think after listening to us not pull our punches on Constantine this whole ep, this is one of our most highly rated comics of the season!

Next week, we will be reading All-Star Superman #1-12. This is a long one, but well-reviewed, so each issue is worth it! We invite you to read along with us!

Veronica's theme this season is Hell. Monte's theme  is Superman.

    Comicempfehlung der Woche:

     "Hellblazer - Gefallene Engel 1"
