    Lord Daddystone

Richard T. Wilson author and creator of Halloween Girl!

Richard T. Wilson author and creator of Halloween Girl!

Meet Horror creator and filmmaker Richard T. Wilson. We had a great chat about how filmmaking is like rock and roll and learn why he describes candy corn as the "flipping off candy." I'd say that makes him very punk rock \m/ 🤘.

We spoke about how journaling is cathartic and how it's more than doodling. We get a little deep, but also chat about Blobfest, spiders, and the Wolfman.

Essential Neil Gaiman and A.I. Book Freakout

Essential Neil Gaiman and A.I. Book Freakout

Are you ready to dive in to the work of the prolific and inventive fantasy writer Neil Gaiman? On this week’s episode, the longtime Gaiman fan J.D. Biersdorfer, an editor at the Book Review, talks with the host Gilbert Cruz about Gaiman’s work, which she recently wrote about for our continuing “Essentials” series.

Also this week, Cruz talks with the Times critic Dwight Garner about “The Death of the Author,” a murder mystery that the novelist Stephen Marche wrote with the assistance of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence programs. Is A.I. in fact a harbinger of doom for creative writers?

Here are the books discussed in this week’s episode:

    “American Gods,” by Neil Gaiman

“Good Omens,” by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

    “Stardust,” by Neil Gaiman

    “Coraline,” by Neil Gaiman

“The Ocean at the End of the Lane,” by Neil Gaiman

    “The Sandman,” by Neil Gaiman

“The Hyphenated Family,” by Hermann Hagedorn

    “Monsters,” by Claire Dederer

“The Death of the Novel,” by Aidan Marchine

We would love to hear your thoughts about this episode, and about the Book Review’s podcast in general. You can send them to books@nytimes.com.

140: ACE COMICALS- WITH DR JOE SUTLIFF SANDERS
In this episode, Greg is joined by special guest Dr Joe Sutliff Sanders (https://www.acecomicals.com/guests/drjoesutliffsanders) to discuss, primarily his work in creating and launching the first world-class collection of graphic novels at Cambridge’s Lucy Cavendish College (https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/blog/graphic-novels-collection-cambridge-university). The initial and core focus of the library is the prioritisation of works by LGBTQ+ creators, women, Indigenous peoples and people of colour. We discuss the reasons behind the decision to create this groundbreaking library and collection at an institution like Cambridge University, along with how this might impact the medium. We discuss why this library is important and also what the potential of the library might be in the future. We touch on his other work within the comics sphere as an academic, and also talk about the comics, stories and experiences that have informed Dr Sutliff Sanders (https://www.acecomicals.com/guests/drjoesutliffsanders) as a champion of the medium among a range of other things! (a lot of Batman). This Library is being built using cash donations. any donations, large or small in any currency are gratefully accepted. To support the Lucy Cavendish College Library’s Graphic Novels Collection donations can be made here: https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/single-donation These donations go straight to the Graphic Novels Collection -- only that and nothing else -- so donors can be assured that they are helping to make outstanding authors who are female, queer, indigenous, marginalized, and people of colour part of the conversation for all time. Comics are a unique medium that has a wealth of wonderful voices from marginalised backgrounds and it is important that we pay attention and raise these voices and stories up. Send any questions or feedback to (mailto:acecomicals@gmail.com) acecomicals@gmail.com. And also please subscribe (http://www.acecomicals.com/subscribe) and leave us a review! If you like what we do please consider donating to us (https://ko-fi.com/acecomicals) at https://ko-fi.com/acecomicals. All contributions will be used to defray the cost of hosting the website. Ace Comicals, over and out!# Special Guest: Dr Joe Sutliff Sanders.
