The full Jones and Mego Show with Arcand from 3/5/24
SEGMENT - WEEI.com's Rob Bradford joins the show from JetBlue Park to discuss where the Red Sox turn to after Lucas Giolito's season ending injury, how they got to this point, if there is any hope of signing another free agent pitcher.
SEGMENT - Jones, Mego, and Arcand react to the reports that Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito is likely to miss the entire 2024 season with a torn UCL.
It is time for Triple Play! It is report card Thursday. Jerod Mayo received poor notes from Kadlick, Jones, and Mego for his media appearances, but Joe Mazzulla would make the honor roll for his! However, Sam Kennedy would not be allowed home for the grades he received for his radio appearances so far!
Hour 1 - During the first hour of the Jones and Mego show, Jones and Mego break down the real cheapo owners of New England. Robert Kraft received a D- on his ownership NFLPA report card. He cares more about lighthouses than his own players. He has no family rooms, and no daycare. The Patriots are one of four NFL teams who does not offer either, which speaks to the owners cutting corners. The same could not be said about John Henry. Jones and Mego remark that Henry loves to spend to keep his players happy- he upgraded their clubhouse just a year ago, unlike the dilapidated Patriots' locker rooms.
Are the Red Sox a community service? Sam Kennedy wants you to think so! Are we supposed to believe they do not make any money on the Red Sox? Are you the BBC of baseball? Ownership must be doing this out of the kindness of their own hearts! Maybe John Henry doesn’t talk to the media because his wardrobe isn't nice enough.
Rob Bradford calls in from Red Sox spring training. The topics he covers include the new jerseys, Jordan Montgomery, and the leaders in the clubhouse to take over for Justin Turner. Who will the leader in the clubhouse be? Which NFL wide receiver is Bradfo most excited about and why? Listen to find out.
Hour 2 - On the second hour of the Jones and Mego Show with Arcand: Should Jayson Tatum be considered the front-runner for MVP? Should his past successes or failures factor into voting? Can a Celtics championship bully the other owners in the City of Boston into building contenders? Finally, would the Red Sox signing Jordan Montgomery move the needle for Red Sox fans?
SEGMENT - Arcand and Andy Hart debate whether or not signing Jordan Montgomery would reinvigorate Red Sox fans. Hart doesn't think so.
Listen here folks, Christian Arcand has a theory for you: Since the Celtics are spending money and winning, if they were to win the NBA Championship, then John Henry and Robert Kraft would be more inclined to spend money. The Beacon of Hope theory, says Jones. Mego is out on Arcand's theory. Boston was never a basketball town, she and Jones say. Is Arcand's theory credible?
Hour 3 - during this hour of the Jones and Mego show with Arcand they further talk about the big Q at 2: Are the Red Sox worthy of your time this season? and hear from a few callers who represent the minority of people who think the Red Sox deserve your time. Also, Triple Play.
Hour 1 - during the first hour of the Jones and Mego show with Arcand, they begin by discussing the Red Sox and what they have not been doing: spending money or signing their young stars, then they move onto Jayson Tatum's comments about how he thinks he is the best player in the league. Jones, Mego, and Arcand agree that no one wants to be at spring training for the Red Sox and Arcand gives his honest heartfelt fan opinion. Jones thinks Tatum is the best player on the Celtics, so if he were to disappear in the NBA Finals, the Celtics would lose. Does that mean he deserves MVP?
There is a major disconnect between the Red Sox stated philosophy and what ownership is actually doing. Ownership is telling you they have an exciting young core that they cannot wait to build around, but then the same ownership is lowballing their young players. They did it with Mookie, they did it with Xander. Now Triston Casas and Brian Bello are both frustrated with contract negotiations. Jones, Mego, and Arcand are all at a loss for words as to how they feel about the Red Sox. It makes zero sense.
John Henry and the Red Sox have to sell Jones, Mego, and Arcand with their play on the field. John Henry is not invested, the players want out, Alex Cora too. Why should any fans care? The way ownership acted this offseason is shameful. Arcand speaks from the perspective of a Boston fan and says, "We are not trying to tell people not to listen to games. I just do not like this. It is not good for the city of Boston or anyone that the Red Sox are bad."
Hour 4 - during the fourth and final hour of the Jones and Mego show with Arcand they discuss the Red Sox disaster, Mego's first dance song at her wedding, and the Patriots and their desire to take a chance on Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels at number three. Also, they discuss their locks of the night on Bet Roulette!
Multiple people have reported that Dustin Pedroia reached out to Rex Sox ownership to give them a piece of his mind. However, WEEI's Rob Bradford told Jones and Mego that the Red Sox themselves called Dustin first to ask him to help them out. He said no, but then gave them a piece of his mind. In this segment, Jones and Mego discuss this breaking news.
WEEI's Rob Bradford joined the Jones and Mego show with Arcand and breaks down the Dustin Pedroia situation, Sam Kennedy, and the Red Sox ownership's messaging to fans. Listen to find out who called who first, Pedroia or the Red Sox. The media has been reporting as if Dustin made the first move, but that is not the case, Bradfo has the inside scoop.
Hour 2 - during the second hour of the Jones and Mego show with Arcand, they discuss the Red Sox and how frustratingly obvious it is that Fenway and John Henry are lying to everyone about spending, and the Boston Celtics, who are gearing up for their hardest stretch of the season. The Sox are supposed to be one of the best teams in the league every season, but the ownership group simply will not spend any money. Jones, Mego, Arcand, and the entirety of the Red Sox faithful are very upset.
Everyone is speaking out against John Henry and the Red Sox ownership. Raphael Devers says he is frustrated, Jansen says that he was lied to, and alumni such as Dustin Pedroia are questioning everything. This leads Mego to say that there is a rebel alliance out there against John Henry and the Fenway Management Group. Players are speaking out, fans (such as Arcand) are speaking out, and alumni are speaking out. It is time for change.
Hour 3 - Jones, Mego, and Arcand revisit their big question of the day. When do you expect the Red Sox to be competitive again? Why Jones thinks the real problem with the team lies within ownership. Live reactions to the Patriots announcing their 2024 coaching staff, as well as a pair of roster moves. Finally, it's a Buy or Sell Monday edition of Triple Play.
