S02_E17 - Arthritis - It's a Pain in the Joint!
Arthritis. It's a huge topic. But what is it exactly? Well, it turns out that's kind of a loaded question and it's pretty complicated when you get into it. Thankfully, on Episode 17 of the podcast, we've got an expert, Dr. Rawad Nasr, the Director of Rheumatology at Hennepin Healthcare to help us get a handle on it.
In this episode, we'll explain the 2 types of arthritis, the root causes of each type, when to be seen, current available treatments, and possible preventive measures. Around 80% of us are likely to experience just one of the types of arthritis at some point in our lives, so it's definitely worth getting the basics down. Join us!
Oh, yeah. And the plural of arthritis is arthritides...

Season 5 Episode 9: Changes in Weed Consumption
Season 5 of the Pot Moms Podcast has a new twist on parenting and cannabis. In this week's episode, Kait and Natalie talk about changes in their cannabis consumption over the years. Starting with experimenting in high school, they chat how things changed into their 20's, and how the pandemic changed usage all together, with the victory of dispensaries in legal states getting granted the status of Essential Business (AND THANK GOODNESS!). Whether it be taking a pause to bake a bun in the oven, consuming to take the proverbial "edge" off, and always striving for that delicate balance between enough and too much, they tackle it all. Tune in each week as they provide an open and honest perspective on cannabis-use as it relates to parenting, mental health, and life in general. Episode 15 - In the Clinic: Second Wave Biomarker Tests for Osteoarthritis
Years after serving in the Vietnam War, Virginia Byers Kraus’s father had his hip replaced—three different times. Each time, she said, outcomes were worse. Joint replacement is often the result of osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease commonly known as “wear and tear” arthritis. There are no disease-modifying drugs for osteoarthritis and early diagnosis is difficult. But even though the CDC estimates that nearly one in four people in the United States has osteoarthritis, Kraus rejects that idea that the disease—and resulting pain and surgical treatment—is inevitable. Her group at Duke is developing a proteomic panel of biomarkers that will be able to identify people with active disease before the evidence is visible on an MRI or X-ray.
