Packers Weekly #32: Most Polarizing Day EVER in Packers Free Agency?

Packers Weekly #32: Most Polarizing Day EVER in Packers Free Agency?

Gute woke up on March 11, 2024 and chose violence. We shouldn't be surprised by anything at this point. One thing you cannot argue with, Gute is not afraid to make any move. Like it or not, he's usually right when he makes these difficult decisions.

While two all-time greats exit Lambeau, the Packers just added two young playmaking leaders on the offense and defense - Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney.

While Jacobs was a pretty big surprise, most Packers fans had their eye on McKinney, and in a rare occurrence actually got the free agent they wanted! Both players are seemingly entering their primes, and playing at the highest level of their respective positions.

Saying goodbye to Aaron Jones and David Bakhtiari was never going to be easy or enjoyable. However, the Packers probably have the best young nucleus of any team in the NFL right now, and they still have 11 draft picks to add even more talent to this young roster.

Strap in, Packers fans. This is a new era of Packers football, and it's looking like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Packers Weekly #31: NFL Scouting Combine REVIEW - Future Packers

Packers Weekly #31: NFL Scouting Combine REVIEW - Future Packers

No doubt one of the stars of the show this year was Xavier Worthy, breaking the record for the fastest 40-yard time. Worthy was one of two WRs that met with the Packers at the Combine. The other was his Longhorn teammate Adonai Mitchell. Combine meetings don't necessarily mean a whole lot, but it's not nothing.

We'll go through a list of guys that got our attention at the Combine, and who we think the Packers actually might be more interested in.

We aren't going to bore you with endless mock draft simulations and meaningless predictions. We're going position-by-position to highlight who we think is on the Packers radar. Join us next week for the breakdown of RBs and LBs.

Packers Weekly #30: NFL Scouting Combine PREVIEW

Packers Weekly #30: NFL Scouting Combine PREVIEW

If you can win a press conference, Hafley won his first press conference as the Packers DC. There was a lot of emphasis on players being able to react and play without thinking too much. It will be very interesting to see which positions they prioritize in the draft to fill out the skillsets Haffley is looking for but may not have on the roster yet. Might we see a similar draft strategy to what Ted did in the 2009 draft?

This week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis there is a lot to be gained, and maybe not as much for some. Will much be changed about how the top prospects are viewed? Probably not. Will some lesser known guys start to make some noise? Absolutely. We've got some small ball guys to watch out for, and who stands to gain the most from a strong performance this week.

Join us next week to dive into the top performers from the Combine!

Packers Weekly #29: Digging Into the Trenches of the 2024 NFL Draft

Packers Weekly #29: Digging Into the Trenches of the 2024 NFL Draft

The final (critical) piece to the 2024 Packers coaching staff has been added. Introducing new Strength and Conditioning Coach, Aaron Hill. Formerly Assistant S&C coach for the 49ers, Hill takes on the responsibility of keeping the hamstrings strong in Green Bay. He's been part of the team that has kept CMC healthy/strong after his string of injury issues with the Panthers. A player familiar to Packers fans, Kurt Benkert, has nothing but good things to say about Hill after his time in San Francisco. Hopefully he can step in to improve the soft tissue injuries.

We're diving back into the Edge Rushers and Offensive Tackles in this episode. Focusing specifically more on day-2 guys that have characteristics the Packers historically have preferred.

While it's fun to dream about our favorite players wearing the green and gold, some of them simply aren't "Gutey guys".

Tune in next week for a Scouting Combine preview! We're looking at who could potentially make or break their draft position with their Combine performance.

We also discuss the election of two former Packers players to the Pro Football HOF Class of 2024 with Julius Peppers and Steve McMichael earning the honors..

Packers Weekly #28: Building the 2024 Green Bay Packers: Offseason Priorities

Packers Weekly #28: Building the 2024 Green Bay Packers: Offseason Priorities

Shanahan comes up short again, and just like that we're in the offseason. No real football until September. Tis the season of too many mock drafts, and overhyped offseason workout videos.

We're here with you through it all.

We're breaking down the draft prospects position-by-position leading up to the draft. Starting with Edge Rushers / OLB and OT day-1 potential fits at 25. We are going to give you a few guys at each position that we think are the most likely to be available and a fit for the Packers.

There are certain things the Packers historically just won't do.

There are also certain things the Packers historically have done consistently.

All of these things considered can help us narrow down to what we think the Packers will do with their draft picks, and how they will build the 2024 roster.

Packers Weekly #27: Super Bowl or Bust with a New Defense?

Packers Weekly #27: Super Bowl or Bust with a New Defense?

Jeff Hafley appears to have a very different philosophy than Joe Barry in almost every way he can. This new defensive staff appears to be a press man CB's dream. One thing seems certain, the aggression level is going up. With the offense looking primed to continue the success they found in the second half of 2023, if the defense can improve, even in the slightest, this team may be headed for a Super Bowl next season. If that sounds crazy to you, then consider us the leaders of the nut house.

One thing we can all agree on right now, it's nice to have an offseason without major drama brewing in Green Bay.

Cheesehead Radio #339: The Packers Defense Gets a Rebranding

Cheesehead Radio #339: The Packers Defense Gets a Rebranding

The Green Bay Packers welcome Jeff Hafley to the fold as our new defensive coordinator. Formerly the head coach at Boston College, his hire might have raised a few eyebrows from the Twitterati who were hoping for an established name in the NFL, but Hafley will be bringing his version of an aggressive, press coverage 4-3 defense which will definitely look different next season. Listen in as CD, Al, and Kelly talk you through the changes on the defensive side of the ball on this week's Cheesehead Radio.

Packers Weekly #26: How Will You Remember the 2023 Packers Season?

Packers Weekly #26: How Will You Remember the 2023 Packers Season?

All the boxes that needed to get checked, have been checked. Hiring a new DC doesn't count, because that's the first item on 2024's list.

You have a franchise QB, a future LT and RT, playmakers on both sides of the ball, and as a bonus they all have playoff experience now. It may have been a disappointing end, but don't let that make you forget the overall success the season was.

If that isn't enough, the GM might be the best in the league right now. The way he's drafted the past two years should make everyone very excited about the talent that will be added to this group that was only a few plays aways from playing for another Lombardi.

We begin our draft coverage next week, as we go position by position to highlight who we think has the best chance to be drafted by the Packers. We will be analyzing a different position group each week leading up to the draft.

No Huddle Radio #148: The Packers Prepare for a Critical Offseason

The Packers offseasn is less than a week old and already they've parted ways with defensive coordinator Joe Barry and strength and conditioning coach Chris Gizzi. The team also signed a kicker to compete with Anders Carlson in training camp.

    Cheesehead Radio #338: #FiredJoeBarry

    Cheesehead Radio #338: #FiredJoeBarry

It was a death of a thousand self-inflicted paper cuts, with no real egregious errors, just too many little mistakes that prevents a young team like the Green Bay Packers from pulling off the upset against the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers. But as the Packers lick their wounds, there's a bright future ahead for them.  The future isn't so bright for defensive coordinator Joe Barry, who was released from his coaching responsibilities on Wednesday, leading the Packers to do another search for the answer for the talent-laden but ever-underachieving defense. Join CD, Al, and Kelly as they take you through another offseason post-mortem and get you ready for 2024.

Packers Weekly #25: Ugly End to a Beautiful Beginning

Packers Weekly #25: Ugly End to a Beautiful Beginning

Playing with house money. There's no pressure. We're not even supposed to be here. Right?

That sentiment was valid going into the 49ers game. As soon as we saw that the Packers could actually win the game, all of that went out the window.

If you're eager to compare this playoff loss to a previous playoff loss, look no further than the 2009 loss to the Cardinals.

The window is opening, not closing.

The Packers just went toe-to-toe with the bully of the NFC and will bring virtually the entire team back.

One of the best GMs in the league has more draft capital than he needs.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the future for this Packers team is as bright as any team in the league.

Let's have some fun this offseason, Packers fans!

Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

    Hour 1

The biggest talk on social media last night was Boomer’s pinstripe suit. Boomer thinks that from a matchup perspective, we have the best game in Chiefs vs Ravens. This was another heartbreaker for the Bills, not only losing to the Chiefs again, but missing a key FG wide right. We had another situation involving a fumble going out of the endzone, resulting in a turnover for the Chiefs instead of a TD. Gio wonders how you bet against Patrick Mahomes at this point, but Boomer said the Ravens have been ‘kicking everybody’s asses’. Steff Diggs is most likely done in Buffalo and won’t be back next season. Something has been off with him and the Bills. Jerry is here for his first update of the day but Gio said if the sports gods were real, Damar Hamlin would have got the first down on the fake punt. Jerry has audio of the Bills missing a FB, wide right. We also heard from Patrick Mahomes after the win. Josh Allen said losing sucks. Earlier in the day the Lions beat the Bucs to go to the NFC Championship game for the first time in 32 years. Baker Mayfield said he felt like his heart was ripped out. Shannon Sharpe talked about CeeDee Lamb’s mom posting that she wants Dak Prescott out. Micah Parson’s brother wants him out of Dallas and Dak Prescott’s brother wants him out. In the final segment of the hour, both coaches made boneheaded moves at the end of Bucs/Lions. In the Packers/Niners game, Deebo Samuel was injured and we didn’t get any real information about his injury.

    Hour 2

Patrick Mahomes Sr seemed to be annoyed by Taylor Swift and her friends in the box. Jason Kelce was all lit up and Gio said he had ‘the agility of a gorilla’, jumping in and out of the box and into the stands. There are rumors of Andy Reid possibly retiring after the season. We also talked about Bob Golic taking some type of horse medicine that gave him horse breath and he would sack Boomer and breathe in his face. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked more about Boomer’s pin striped suit causing a ‘zoot suit riot’. Jerry started with the Chiefs beating the Bills. With less than 2 minutes to play, the Bills missed a FG wide right. Again. Josh Allen doesn’t want you to blame the loss on the kicker. Jerry also has the sounds from the Lions beating the Bucs 31-23. Jerry went around the NHL for the locals last night. The Islanders fired their head coach and brought in Patrick Roy. In the final segment of the hour, as Jordan Love was playing well in the first half, Aaron Rodgers hit a hole in one. Boomer said the Packers and Texans are going to be really good for the next few years. Antonio Pierce is now the official Head Coach of the Raiders. Boomer wonders why Jerry Reese hasn’t been hired as a GM somewhere since leaving the Giants. He won two Super Bowls. Gio feels Boomer is being very aggressive this morning, even when Gio is agreeing with him.

    Hour 3

This has been Lamar Jackson’s season as he’s going to win the MVP. Boomer said Lamar and Josh Allen will go and get first downs when they need to. Gio said he can’t pick against Mahomes anymore. Boomer said right now the Ravens have the best team. They are loaded on both offense and defense. Boomer wonders if the Browns want Baker Mayfield back. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked more about Boomer fresh pinstripe suit. Jerry started with the deep pass late in the game that went through Stefon Diggs’ hands. We also heard Lions radio on the Baker Mayfield interception late in the game. Jerry went around the NHL for the locals and Patrick Roy is the new head coach of the Islanders. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders what we thought about Travis Kelce doing the heart symbol up to Taylor Swift after scoring a TD.

    Hour 4

We talked about all the reasons why people are rooting against the Chiefs now. Mahomes in the quarterback documentary and the Kelce brothers. People are sick of them. Gio played paddle tennis. He didn’t know it was played outside. A caller said the Kelce brothers are attention whores. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Bills going wide right again. It would have tied the game late. Josh Allen said losing sucks. The Lions beat the Bucs and Dan Campbell is impressed they are one of the last 4 teams standing. CBS host Katie Mox had her undergarments taken at the airport. Gio imagines if Adam Schein is the one who stole them. In the final segment of the show, the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job appears to be wide open as they have interviewed a ton of guys including Bill Belichick and John Harbaugh. Boomer said he believes Belichick is going to Atlanta, they first have to work out who will be doing what jobs in the front office. How would Belichick and Rich McKay get along? It’s an interesting dynamic. Brian Flores hasn’t gotten a single interview and it must be because of the lawsuit he has against the NFL.

Mahomes Sr. Annoyed At Swift, Kelce Antics; Andy Reid Rumors; Jerry With Wide Right 1 & 2; Islanders Hire Patrick Roy; Antonio Pierce Offically HC Of Raiders (Hour 2)
