    Es gibt anspruchsvolle Familiendramen, es gibt SF-Actionfilme, es gibt chaotische Ideensexplosionen. Die Daniels haben das alles untrennbar ineinander verwoben: Das berührende Familiendrama erzählt vom Scheitern der Kommunikation und vom Gefangenbleiben in Konventionen und Alltagskonflikten, bis der Film beginnt im wahrsten Sinne den Wortes die Grenzen des Universums zu sprengen, mit Jackie-Chan-Einlagen bis zur Nasenspitze ins Action-Genre zu springen, bevor sich in den verschiedenen Universen die grenzenlose Fantasie der beiden Regisseure Bahn bricht. Der Film ist übervoll an schrägen, surrealen Ideen, da haben plötzlich alle Menschen wabbelige Hotdogartige Finger oder unsere Protagonistin ist ein berühmter Filmstar oder … ein Stein. Vor allem aber gibt der Film einer älteren Frau mit chinesischer Migrationsgeschichte, also einer Figur, die auf der Leinwand wie in der Gesellschaft fast immer unsichtbar ist, ein Gesicht, eine Kraft und eine laute Stimme.

    Alle Darsteller tragen diese Geschichte, aber vor allem Michelle Yeoh ist in einer unerwarteten Vielgestaltigkeit sehr überzeugend – die perfekte Antagonistin: Jamie Lee Curtis als Steuerprüferin Deirdre. Da brennt die Leinwand zwischen diesen Frauen. Direkt nach dem Film, den wir im wunderbaren Capitol in Mainz gesehen haben, sortieren Johanna und Thomas in der 12-Minuten-Podcast-Episode erst einmal die vielen, vielen Eindrücke. Während Johanna auf die eine oder andere absurde Idee hätte verzichten können, hat Thomas vor allem die anarchistische Freiheit dieses Films genossen. Besonders empfehlenswert!
