She was raised in a Christian home with parents who taught her to believe in miracles. As a child, she was miraculously healed of rheumatic fever, and later also healed of life-threatening asthma. As an adult, Ruby found fulfillment in serving the Lord by serving people in different aspects of ministry. For seven years, she worked for Oral Roberts Ministries as a letter analyst, responding to prayer requests, and also praying with people who called the prayer line during his television broadcasts. Ruby is also musician and singer who loves the share the gospel in song. Along with her husband (Bill Holt), and her daughter, "The Singing Holts" traveled to churches through Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas to sing, and win souls to Christ. After her husband passed away, she moved to Florida and continued to minister in song for ladies meetings and special church functions. It was in Florida that she married Frank Lagana, and they opened their home for sing-a-longs where people could share their testimony and receive prayer. She continues to minister to people in her home to this day. Women of Substance with Dr. Scarlett Horton⁣ Episode 12 - Dr. Scarlett Horton and Dr. David Horton interview Louise "Desert Angel" Blain __________⁣ Louise Downs Blain is the founder Desert Angels, Inc., a non-profit organization that sends care-packages to our military. Desert Angels, Inc., is a faith ministry, a strictly volunteer organization, funded totally by donations. The ministry began in October 2001, when Louise's friend had a son serving in the US Air Force was deployed in the very primitive conditions of the very HOT desert. Louise gathered some young adults from her church to make boxes and write letters for her friend's son. Her heart was not not only to minister to the troops, but also provide an opportunity for anyone who desires to help a way to show compassion through donating time or items, to prepare these special boxes for our military. Louise continued to host regular "Packing Parties" every month. Twenty years later, Desert Angels, Inc., has sent tens of thousands of these boxes overseas. They contain a variety of items, including socks, pocket foods, letters from home and "a whole lot of love." Each box also includes a "Prayer Cloth," "Pocket Flag," reminding our Troops, we are praying for them. She believes when we do this, we show our Troops they are not forgotten by our deeds, not just our words. Changing our world, one box at a time ~ Making a difference! The care packages that are sent are called "Miracle Boxes" in honor of PFC Joseph A. Miracle, a Michigan Soldier who gave his life defending his unit. The Troops gave Louise the name "Desert Angel": out of the desert comes a box from someone they don't even know... it much be an angel ~ it must be "The Desert Angel" In this inspiring episode, Scarlett, David and Louise talk about the value of honoring our military, the importance of patriotism, and the impact we can all have to make a difference in the world.
