Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says he will resign as leader of the United Conservative Party following the results of his leadership review. He received support from 51.4 per cent of party members. 

Carrie Tait, a Calgary-based reporter in The Globe’s Alberta bureau, explains that while a few frontrunners have emerged to replace Kenney, uniting the right in the province remains a difficult road.

Though this new law deals with traffic violations and seems inconsequential, the implications are enormous. It's a very dangerous move down the slippery slope, on a slide towards tyranny.

The Justice Centre’s Charter challenge to Manitoba’s lockdowns has now wrapped up, with government officials testifying under oath in court that PCR tests are extremely unreliable and do not diagnose Covid. Alberta has slid further into becoming a full-fledged police state thanks to a May 6 Court Order, sought by Alberta Health Services, that allows police to arrest peaceful protesters immediately, without due process. After missing last week's show, we play catch-up on the government lockdown files. Generally, health authorities and politicians across the country are increasing Covid restrictions. At the same time, governments are using delay tactics in court, claiming they need multiple months to produce the evidence that might justify their Charter-violating laws, policies and health orders, and telling judges they need more time. After 13 months, this is no excuse. They should have been ready with their "science-based” evidence a long time ago, as soon as the violations of Charter freedoms began in March of 2020.

When we hear “religious” we often think “right wing,” and in The Forgotten Corner, there’s no shortage of reasons why that might be. 

But being a person of faith is not a life sentence to being conservative, and you don’t even have to venture out of Medicine Hat to find a prime example of that.

Rev. Dave Pollard, a born-and-raised Albertan, has been the minister at Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church for the past four-and-a-half years, and has been an outspoken member of the city’s small but not insignificant progressive community the entire time.
Dave joins the Forgotten Corner this week for a truly spirited conversation that takes listeners through his childhood in Fort Saskatchewan and his eventual decision to join the clergy. He talks about how he became a progressive minister, and why he believes it’s essential for the church to be openly critical of government when the good of the collective is being jeopardized.
