On this week’s episode of Everything Orange, redshirt freshman setter Caroline Kerr joins the podcast. In her debut season, Kerr is leading the SEC in assists per set and has received conference honors four straight weeks so far this season. Listen to learn more about how her hard work landed her at Tennessee, what it means to represent the Lady Vol logo, and the team’s identity this season.
SEVENTY years ago this movie dominated Hollywood and the Academy Awards. It is a drama disguised as a war film. From Here to Eternity is a movie that took home a boatload of Oscars back in 1953. All the performances are incredible and the direction, editing, and cinematography is first rate. But it's the story that really pulls you in. The question is did it deserve to win best picture that year. Were the other four nominees as goo, or even better. Was there a film (including all the great foreign language movies) that came out in 1953 better than From Here to Eternity. Download and tune in to hear Jack Ferdman's take on it.

Our condolences to the families that lost loved ones during this tragic incident, this is not a grab for fame or views. We all in this episode have a connection to this situation be it military-related trauma, being a first responder to the incident, or simply being a parent. We will not say his name, it deserves to die with him. But we will say the name Robb Elementary because so many lights were diminished earlier than necessary.

Mike and Natalie talk about why they chose the fantastic guests they did and highlight some of their favorite moments of the past seven months’ worth of episodes. We revisit Steve Kerr’s savage sigh at his daughter’s college volleyball game and the absurd chant Mike led at Dodger Stadium during the 1982 L.A. City baseball championship. We hear New Orleans Saints star Cam Jordan talk about why raising a black child is America carries daunting overtones and get some insight from rap legend Luther Campbell (aka Uncle Luke) into his late friend Tupac Shakur’s psyche as it pertained to social activism. Two doctors at the forefront of the COVID-19 fight, Greg Huhn and Ajay Nirula, tell us why Dr. Fauci is a legend, and Brandi Chastain takes some current women’s soccer stars to task. Former NFL receiver turned political commentator Donté Stallworth tells a Bill Belichick story with an unexpected twist. Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur gets grilled by an unlikely interviewer, former Oklahoma and Dallas Cowboys coach Barry Switzer looks back on a drunken argument with Jerry Jones, and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay tells Mike why he shouldn’t worry that rock icon Stephen Stills hates him.
Highlights include Steve’s discussion of the time Bulls coach Phil Jackson instructed him and teammate Jud Buechler to drink all night with Rodman in Atlantic City--the night before a game; Mike’s recollection of the subsequent story he wrote for Sports Illustrated, and why some of the best moments didn’t make it into the magazine; Mike’s assessment of Rodman’s sensitivity, and how he freaked out over a photo of Maddy and Natalie in a Berkeley bar; Maddy’s detailing of her adventures in Cleveland, including getting popcorn thrown at her by salty Cavs fans during the NBA Finals; Natalie talking about attending the Warriors’ Game 7 victory over Oklahoma City in the 2016 Western Conference Finals, and how she nearly threw Dave Chappelle’s sunglasses across a crowded club room during the postgame celebration; Natalie’s story about Mike getting kicked out of one of her high school field hockey games for questioning a call; Maddy responding by making fun of Steve for expressing his displeasure after she unleashed a subpar serve (while playing with a torn labrum in her shoulder) at a Cal volleyball game; Mike’s remembrance of Steve’s freakout while attending his son’s college orientation and being serenaded by the USC marching band; Steve’s sharing of the analogy that acclaimed author Michael Lewis gave to him and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll (on their podcast) about the sorry state of leadership in the executive branch of the U.S. government--and Mike and Steve’s expansion of the analogy to accentuate their shared displeasure.
