KEVIN LOVE BUYOUT, Cavs fall to Sixers despite Donovan heroics, and Danny Green's Debut

Kevin Love has requested a buyout!  Donovan Mitchell scored 33, but that wasn't enough for the Cavs to dig out of a 28-point deficit, as time ran out on their late rally.  The Cavs enter the All-Star break as the 4th seed, falling to the Sixers, in a game which featured the debut of Danny Green.  Bob Schmidt, of Fox Sports Radio, talks about his addition, including some comments he made on his podcast, Inside The Green Room.

Audio excerpts featured in this episode are from the "Inside the Green Room with Danny Green" podcast.  Link to the full episode:

#4 - The Reimagining Of Kevin Love

#4 - The Reimagining Of Kevin Love

Father time, they say, is undefeated. But you can at least negotiate with him.

In what will indisputably be the latter stages of his career, Cleveland Cavaliers big man Kevin Love is holding back the inevitable. As the hair greys and the team around him transforms, he remains the mainstay, the lone holdover from the championship era, the bridge to the past. And he also remains very good.

It has been quite the reputational transformation for Love, a man who 18 months ago was thought to represent everything wrong with the Cavs. In contrast, he now represents everything that is right.

Le but ?

Episode 21 - "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot" (documentaire, 2008)

Episode 21 - "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot" (documentaire, 2008)

    Kevin Love

    Kevin Love

On this episode of Blindsided, we welcome Kevin Love. Kevin is an NBA player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, with whom he won an NBA championship in 2016. He’s also one of the most prominent professional athletes to speak out about his mental struggles. His article, “Everyone is going through something” struck a chord in the sports community and beyond. It helped a lot of people and athletes to open up. Kevin talks about a family history of mental illness, self-medicating with alcohol, and the paranoid feelings he had after experiencing a panic attack in front of thousands of people. We’re thankful for his courage in sharing his story.

    About Our Hosts:

Former National Hockey League goaltender Corey Hirsch and psychiatrist Dr. Diane McIntosh team up on Blindsided to allow professional athletes to open up about mental health. The podcast lets listeners hear moments when mental health became the athlete’s most important focus.

DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love, NBA Stars on Mental Health

DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love, NBA Stars on Mental Health

This week’s conversation is with NBA stars DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love and it’s unique.

It comes from a live panel we did at Aspen Ideas Festival a few weeks back.

Presented by the Aspen Institute in partnership with The Atlantic, the Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation’s premier, public gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to present and discuss the ideas and issues that both shape our lives and challenge our times.

I was invited to host a panel on mental health in sports.

Earlier this year, Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and DeMar DeRozan of the San Antonio Spurs, each publicly discussed their challenges with mental and emotional well-being.

Their honesty started a national conversation about breaking through the stigma and fear of openly discussing mental health issues in professional sports.

In this very personal conversation, the superstar athletes share their experiences with anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

What they reveal about mental health actually reveals much about their mental strength.

I hope this is only the beginning of an era where athletes and for that matter anyone – across any walk of life – has the courage to be vulnerable and have those difficult conversations.
