    160 – Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram

    160 – Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram
At just 23 years of age, budding blues guitarist Christone "Kingfish" Ingram has recorded with Buddy Guy and Keb Mo, performed alongside Jason Isbell and Samantha Fish, and released two well-received albums on Alligator Records. The latest of those albums, last year’s 662, earned the axe-wielding wunderkind a Grammy nomination. Kingfish has already accomplished so much at a very young age, but it seems like even better things are on the horizon for the guitar virtuoso and captivating crooner.

On a recent day off during his "662 Juke Joint Live" tour, Kingfish spoke with My First Band host Tyler Maas about being back on the road again, how it feels to be up for another Grammy and what's ahead for him in terms of shows and new material. Over the course of the conversation, Kingfish talked about growing up in Northern Mississippi and being drawn to blues as a kid, sitting in with bands as a teenager, striking out on his own as an adult, some of his favorite experiences music has brought him so far, and goals he has for the years to come.

My First Band is sponsored by Mystery Room Mastering and Lakefront Brewery. The show is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify and wherever else you get podcasts. You can also listen to rebroadcasts of previous My First Band episodes on WMSE every Wednesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. CST. Music used in this episode comes courtesy of Devils Teeth ("The Junction Street Eight Tigers") and Kingfish ("Long Distance Woman").

Estuary Kingfish and Cricket with Brett 'Binga' Lee

Estuary Kingfish and Cricket with Brett 'Binga' Lee

This week on the Reel Action Fishing Podcast Jono and Guesty are joined by cricketing legend and fishing fanatic Brett Lee. Despite being known for his work on the cricket pitch, Brett has an underlying passion for fishing that stems back to his childhood. These days, a spare second in his busy schedule will see him out on Sydney Harbour chasing the mighty kingfish - a fish that both Jono and Guesty agree is pound for pound the hardest fighting fish to swim in the oceans. On this weeks episode, the boys aim to dive into a comprehensive chat on all things estuary kings, while uncovering some untold stories of Bretts. The lads talk about everything from the rig, the technique, the best baits and as always, anything that comes up when three blokes find themselves around a bar table chatting fishing. There are some cracking stories in this one!

All that and more on this weeks episode of the Reel Action Fishing Podcast!

Episode 423: Parramatta River Kingfish With George Anasta

Episode 423: Parramatta River Kingfish With George Anasta

The Parramatta River system might be one of the most highly urbanised waterways in Australia, but that doesn't mean it can't fish well! Todays Guest George Anasta has been nailing Parramatta kingfish from boat, kayak and shore for decades. Fortunately he loves a chat and isn't shy about sharing some pearls of wisdom with ALF listeners.

Episode 277: Cape Moreton Kingfish With Jim Potts

Jigging up kingfish and other tough species is something that today’s guest Jim Potts has been doing for over 15 years - in fact he’ll freely confess that he’s addicted to this aspect of the sport. Dropping heavy jigs deep and working them up fast before tying into bruiser kingfish requires a level of fitness, but the rewards are well worth the pain.
