    Episode-09- Birth Control

    Episode-09- Birth Control
Birth Control is one of the longest-running German rock bands of all time.

50 years ago, they released the album Hoodoo Man which included the international mega-hit "Gamma Ray" that turned the band into household names throughout Europe.
While the personnel of the band has changed over it's 54-year history, one thing has not: solid musical performances in the studio and even more so on stage, where the band has delivered legendary performances for decades.

Just recently, the band released their 21st studio album "Open Up" with 8 brand new tracks that overflow with creativity, musicality, dynamics and of course, the pure dose of rock'n'roll the band is known for. And for the very first time, the band offers a new version of "Gamma Ray" 50 years after the original release.

I am joined by Peter Foeller and Ludi Ettrich and we talk about some of the history, their die-hard fans and the new album.

Episode 091: Mac Anderson: Cleveland Kraut Becomes Cleveland Kitchen

Episode 091: Mac Anderson: Cleveland Kraut Becomes Cleveland Kitchen
In the second Appropriate Omnivore podcast during the time of the pandemic, Aaron Zober brings on Mac Anderson, a co-founder of Cleveland Kitchen. Aaron is pleased to see a successful natural foods business from his hometown. Mac tells the story of how the business came to be as it was originally called Cleveland Kraut and how they made the transition to it becoming Cleveland Kitchen. Mac and the other co-founders felt after making krauts, they wanted to be the first to make truly fermented salad dressings. And the news of the name change and the salad dressing launches all happened as everybody was quarantining. Mac shares his experience of how he’s been able to promote Cleveland Kitchen over the Internet and social media as the food conventions have all been cancelled. He then gets into describing the precautions Cleveland Kraut is taking with their employees to stay safe. Aaron and Mac discuss how with health being the top priority of people right now, more people are becoming interested in natural foods and many to sauerkraut specifically. Aaron and Mac also share their thoughts on grocery and restaurant delivery. And they get into what the future of the food and restaurant industries could be like post pandemic.

Adam Kraut has been a guest before on the Firearms Nation Podcast. He is an attorney who fights for gun rights and previously ran for the board at the National Rifle Association. Currently, Adam is now the Director of Legal Strategy at the Firearms Policy Coalition. The Coalition fights legal battles, mostly for our 2nd Amendment rights.

In this episode we get into the current struggle for gun rights in this election year, specifically discussing the red flag laws being presented. Are they worth it or are they a ploy to just confiscate guns?

018 – Dawn Story, Farmstead Ferments

018 – Dawn Story, Farmstead Ferments

Did you know one third of all the foods we eat are fermented? Even chocolate. The art of preserving foods using water and salt is thousands of years old. And luckily is having a resurgence. Dawn Story of Farmstead Ferments is here to teach us the health benefits of super foods like kraut, kimchi, and water kefir.

Digesting food requires a ton of energy by the body. It's hard work. But eating fermented foods not only aids the digestive process, but can provide good bacteria and enzymes the body needs to function. It's why pickle and kraut juice are often called "Nature's Gatorade". Enjoying fermented treats is a way to allow your food to be your medicine. Kraut and water kefir are not only delicious, but easy to incorporate into your daily diet.

My favorite Farmstead Ferments product, Garlicky Greens, is a fantastic, tangy, crunchy combination of preserved cabbage, kale, and collard greens. I add it to pizza, put it in a quesadilla with black beans, or just eat it straight from the jar. Yum. And a pickle juice shot after a big fatty meal is my new favorite thing. Better than Zantac!

What is the difference between heat canning and her products? What is the difference between bad bacteria like botulism that can occur with canning and the good bacteria which evolves during fermentation? What is the difference between decomposition and fermentation? And why are fermented foods safer to eat than raw foods?

What is a healing crisis? Why did her mention of apple kraut cause me to almost break out in tears? Why does the quality of the salt used to ferment matter? All of these questions will be answered in this episode. Also listen for probably the dumbest comment I've ever made in the history of Man. I'm so embarrassed. Whatever. I blame lack of caffeine.

Episode 7 - Krautside the Box

Episode 7 - Krautside the Box
While American hippie freaks flapped their wings of psychedelic revolution, another metamorphosis was happening in central Europe. Germany, starving for identity ignorantly given up for the Nazi propaganda war machine, sought to rebuild its status by returning to its old world cultural traditions in hope of re-acceptance by the surrounding world it had morally and politically distanced itself from. Within this social reform the young generation strove to align with the western music scene by donning a version of “big hit” easy listening known as Schlager. With great fervor, counter cultural artisan musicians vowed to trump the Anglo-American inspired pop scene by reinventing music through radical experimentation built and expanded from the psychedelic scene developing abroad. This new, cutting edge approach was viewed by the artists as allegorical to a way of rebuilding war torn Germany from the smoking rubble up. With Nazi aggression still salt in the wound to neighboring countries, this new approach to music was disdainfully coined Krautrock. Kraut, an ethnic slur given to German soldiers during the war, now overlaid and broadcast as moniker to the scene by the English music press. Though some artists rejected the term in favor of the more apropos title Kosmische Musik, the Krautrock label stuck and has since been the canopy for one of the most innovative movements in rock history. Combining elements of the then popularized electronic synth with free jazz avant-garde and psychedelia, this new fusion of German art rock has remained strong and influential to many of today’s greatest bands. While wide in its spectrum of styles, from ambient new age to free form noise – the genre has carved its own slice into the freak rock pie. So Achtung! meine Freunde und bereiten! For today we do our freaking…..Krautside the Box. 1. Sundos - Electric Orange 2. No Freak Out - Sperrmüll 3. Egyptian Kings - Brainticket 4. Le Diable Dans La Maison - Ash Ra Temple 5. Episode 6 Psych-Out...Under The Rainbow

    Episode 6 Psych-Out...Under The Rainbow
Psych music blossoming in the mid 60’s is undoubtedly the genesis of the freak scene movement. Experiments of mind through sound by way of boundary dissolving catalysts inspired new directions of musical creation, paving a golden road to cross over the consciousness expanded rainbow landscapes projected by this singular lens of collective oneness. Reflecting the aura of this universally connected physical sensation, the new sound became as allegorical paintings in attempt to focus dualistic contradictions and wash over the grim and war torn elitist world-controlled reality the freaks saw so clearly revealed by their entheogenic third eye medicines. Today’s episode reignites this most important time of freak fertilization to re-experience the awesome and strange wonder of this Psych-Out Under the Rainbow. Click your heels to go home! 1. Episode 4 Space-Time Progmaticum

    Episode 4 Space-Time Progmaticum
Born from the mid 60’s psychedelic mental musical uprising, experimental artists sent the rock genre into uncharted fields of free zone technical exploration. The 1970’s became a veritable petri dish of what was to be coined the Prog Rock Movement. Like a shattered mirror, sub genres of the prog scene scattered an array of eclectic sounds and compositions, pushing the boundaries of the rock world well beyond its then current imaginary limits, yet still reflecting its holographic whole. Looking back in time from the present, it is now an impressive class, all of its own; a galaxy of different styles and shapes, each with its own culturally inspired signature making up the incredible volume that is prog rock music. Tonights episode journeys into the galactic center of this nuclear cluster to capture and embrace the freak side vibrations of this exhaustive and timeless genre. It is time again for a Blacklight Freakout - so suit up, strap in and enter the Space-Time Progmaticum.

    Episode 3 Flautrock Fantastica

    Episode 3 Flautrock Fantastica
The flute is the oldest instrument found in the human archeological record, its breath blown resonance strands back 40,000 years through our ancestral DNA to the Upper Paleolithic Cro-Magnon. Many have questioned and some argued whether this most ancient and ingenious human harmonic interaction finds place in rock music. It is toward this end that tonight’s episode of the Blacklight Freakout is cast. Do the pipes of the pagans Pan and early shamanic ceremonial/ritual dance accord with the heavy primal beat of the freak sound sensoria? Enter the Blacklight Freakout and decide.

    Episode 2 Protomeltallic Pipedream

    Episode 2 Protomeltallic Pipedream
In this second episode of the Blacklight Freakout we venture into the wild weird world of early 70's heavy rock, later coined the Proto Metal movement, as this new sound of rock music formed a solid foundation for the Heavier brand of distortion and thump to later build upon what is now know as Heavy Metal. These were the days the freaks took over the flowery draped hippie image and replaced it with tattered and patched green army jackets and jeans in blatant, bleary but wide-eyed protest to everything the upper crust politic and sheep herd status quo society had been living. Revolution, dissent and escape blasting through the message - the proto metal freaks arose loudly and in fervor as the shape of Rock music was forever changed. Rise up...and Dig it!
