Episode 93: Chasing a Stand-up Comedy Dream -- with Jessica Inserra (Explicit)

Episode 93: Chasing a Stand-up Comedy Dream -- with Jessica Inserra (Explicit)

Jessica Inserra is a Los Angeles based stand-up comedian whose irreverent humor explores, among other things, themes from her life as a gay woman growing up in a colorful New York Italian family. Jessica recently commemorated 25 years of being out, having burst through the closet doors at the tender age of 14. Now she can be seen performing her unique brand of brash, edgy comedy at The Comedy Store, as well as other venues in and around Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle and beyond. She is currently working on her own stand-up special entitled, “Jessica Inserra, Pretty Gay.”

On this episode, you will hear Jessica talk about:

    • What inspired her to pursue stand-up comedy, after more than a decade of managing a plastic surgeon’s office (which is still her full-time job!) -- and how she balances her job with pursuing her comedy passion
    • Her experience working with legendary comedian Gerry Katzman in his stand-up comedy class -- and how she overcame constant fear and self-doubt as she developed and practiced her material
    • How she feels about finding success at the beginning of her career and being able to meet her comedy idols
    • How being "familiar” and feminine as a gay woman has helped her both in her comedy and her life

You can follow Jessica on Instagram at @jessinserra and on her website, www.prettygay.net.

Side tangents in this one include how the wrestler known as "Sting" would run a wedding. This one is great fun! Find Justin on Instagram @PerlmanNecklace.
