    Dune Part Two review

    Dune Part Two review

The Dune books by Frank Herbert are widely said to be impossible to make into movies or shows. However, a few have tried and the latest is director Denis Villeneuve with, first, his Dune Part One film in 2021 and now Dune Part Two. Overwhelmingly, the consensus is that Villeneuve succeeded beautifully with his first Dune film in introducing movie audiences to the world of Dune. Now we get his Part Two which continues the story of Paul Atreides, who is royalty, but also could be the most powerful being in the entire universe someday. What will he do with this power? Will he engage in good to help out the people of the universe or will his power end up killing billions of people? Dune is also about Paul’s alliance with the people of the planet Arrakis, known as the Fremen. We also see his battle against his enemies, the Harkonnens and the Emperor. Is Dune Part Two entertaining as it tells this complex, twisted tale? Check out this show to find out. Dune Part Two stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Lea Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgard and Charlotte Rampling.

    Cry-Baby (1990) review / dir. John Waters

    Cry-Baby (1990) review / dir. John Waters

The gang busts up the Jukebox Jamboree this week, as they review John Waters' first major Studio feature, Cry-Baby (1990). Starring Johny Depp as the title character, Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker, the golden boy of the roughneck group of juvenile delinquent greasers known as the Drapes, a departure from the teen wholesome heart-throb characters he was known for playing prior to 1990. Anyone who knows John Waters' reputation may find Cry-Baby a surprisingly easy watch, due its distinct lack of filth and debauchery. Did that decision make it a winner, or a punishment for Pete, Tyler, and Joseph? Listen in to find out!

Rango (2011) review / dir. Gore Verbinksi

Rango (2011) review / dir. Gore Verbinksi

The gang begs for water this week, as they review one of the final movies from director Gore Verbinski, Rango. With an all star case, this animated movie from Paramount and Nickelodeon Studios, Rango tells the story of a pet chameleon lost from his owners, and stranded in a deserted town of Dirt. A thespian at heart, Rango (a stage name) assimilates to the classic western characters found in this small town, and quickly becomes the hero they need, and finds the purpose in his own life. Watch on Paramount+ to discover this forgotten gem for yourself, and find out what all the fuss is about.

The gang has a rumble to end all rumbles this week, as they review a seminole coming of age story from the wrong side of the tracks. This week, Pete and Tyler review The Outsiders. Joseph is celebrating his birthday away from the show this week, so Tyler and Pete represent the greasers and the Socs, with their reviews of the Francis Ford Coppola adaptation of the classic S.E. Hinton novel of the same name. Does this movie earn its status of classic,

Fiddler on The Roof (1971) review / dir. Norman Jewison

Fiddler on The Roof (1971) review / dir. Norman Jewison

The gang sells their daughter off to LAZAR WOLF this week, as they review an all-time classic musical about life at the turn of the century in remote Russia, Fiddler on The Roof (1971). Based on the smash hit Broadway musical of the same name, the Norman Jewison directed film tells the story of Tevye, the Jewish milk man, and father of 5 daughters. Tevye must wrestle with tradition and the happiness of his family, while dealing with the sad reality of the spreading anti-Semitic sentiment of the local Authoritarian government. Even if you haven't seen this movie, you undoubtedly know some of the catchy songs: If I were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Tradition, L'chaim (to life), Sunrise Sunset, Do You Love Me... I can go on. Watch it if you haven't, don't let the runtime scare you... then listen along.

Episode 175: Crimes of the Future Special Edition

Episode 175: Crimes of the Future Special Edition

***SPOILER WARNING! AS WITH ALL SPECIAL EDITIONS, WE WILL DISCUSS EVERY DISGUTING DETAIL OF THE MOVIE***

The announcement that David Cronenberg was returning to science-fiction body horror was met with a mix of excitement and trepidation. There is no doubting that he is one of the most influential directors of all time. His influence can be found in a number of movies. Still, it has been a while since he has made one of these types of movies. Is Crimes of the Future his triumphant return or a relic of the past?

The movie is about a performance artist named Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and her partner Caprice (Lea Seydoux). The pair use their performances to showcase changes in the human body. They soon get caught up in a mystery that includes government conspiracies and murder.

Cronenberg films have always contained a heavy dose of sexuality and Crimes of the Future is no different. In this case, surgery and sex are a running theme. "Surgery is the new sex" is a great nu-metal lyric, but how well did it work in this movie? Do things go too far?

The other big selling point for the film was the return to body horror. Based on still shots and trailers, there was a lot of freaky stuff going on. Earman alone is enough body horror for some. Does Crimes of the Future live up to fan expectations? And what will people who have heard of Cronenberg's work think?

Crimes of the Future is about more than sex, surgery, and grossing audiences out. There is a surprisingly grounded story here. The question becomes, is it too down to earth? Should the plot have taken a more fantastic slant? We also discuss how well the mystery worked and the if the futuristic setting seemed dated.

Crimes of the Future – David Cronenberg, back in the flesh!

Crimes of the Future – David Cronenberg, back in the flesh!

Somehow, David Cronenberg returned. Along with Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, and plenty other lovable weirdos in this near-future body horror where "surgery is the new sex." Don't worry, we'll get to that. After premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, critics and audiences are definitely trying to process Cronenberg's latest sci-fi drama, and so are we. Is it this year's Titane? Does it measure up to Possessor, the film Brandon Cronenberg (son of David Cronenberg) released two years ago? Let's dig in. Scalpel.
