Letting Go of People-Pleasing: Navigating the Waters of Relationship and Independence

Being on my Soul Recovery journey to shed the layers of codependency and people-pleasing has been a gradual and consistent process. The profound transformation from this inner work has brought incredible rewards to my life. Recently, my husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a three-week trip to Indonesia. I can genuinely affirm that my spiritual journey towards a happier and healthier self allowed me to fully embrace and enjoy every moment, even during the challenging times.

From Addiction to Purpose – A Six-Year Journey of Healing and Soul Recovery

From Addiction to Purpose – A Six-Year Journey of Healing and Soul Recovery

It's hard to believe that what started as a personal battle with alcohol has blossomed into six transformative years of sobriety and Soul Recovery where I could celebrate the anniversary on an Island in Indonesia also celebrating 30 years of marriage. It can feel hopeless when we are in the depth of our suffering- but there is a solution if we are ready to make the decision to live and heal.  The suffering can be from addiction, or it can be from the pain of being a human being.  In Soul Recovery we are learning how to accept our lives as they are, turn the attention to ourselves and learn to love ourselves and heal the past.  I am grateful for sobriety of body, mind and spirit and the opportunity to share Soul Recovery with you.

Embracing Faith: Trusting in the Goodness of Human Beings and the Universe

Embracing Faith: Trusting in the Goodness of Human Beings and the Universe

While I am on vacation  for February 2024, I wanted to share some of the powerful episodes from our book study last year for subscribers of the Bonus Recover Your Soul podcast, and have chosen some of the favorites.

In this bonus episode we continue the book study of Paul Ferrini's "Crossing the Threshold from Fear to Love: 31 Days of Spiritual Awakening" and study the spiritual value of faith.  When we step into faith, we are invited to leave judgement and blame behind and be present with 'what is', knowing we are being held and guided for what is right for us on our own learning soul journey.  This chapter was a beautiful complement to our Soul Recovery as we are moving closer to our spiritually grounded Higher Self and connection with Higher Power.

While I am on vacation  for February 2024, I wanted to share some of the powerful episodes from our book study last year for subscribers of the Bonus Recover Your Soul podcast, and have chosen some of the favorites.

In this bonus episode we continue the book study of Paul Ferrini's "Crossing the Threshold from Fear to Love: 31 Days of Spiritual Awakening".  I really enjoyed this chapter looking at detachment from his perspective as a spiritual value to add to our Soul Recovery tool box as we learn to let go of all that no longer serves us. Paul emphasizes the importance of learning from our experiences and seeing the choices we can make as we take charge of our own lives one step at a time.

Understanding your Protectors and Parts in Soul Recovery

Understanding your Protectors and Parts in Soul Recovery

I recall a moment that shifted my understanding of the soul's complex tapestry. It was during a session of Gestalt therapy with my husband Rich that we discovered the emotional parts that danced between us—his internal 'judge' and my 'scared little girl.' I invite you to turn within, exploring these internal landscapes and the 'protectors' that shape our responses to life's multifaceted challenges. This episode  stitches together personal stories and the Soul Recovery take on the Internal Family Systems model, promising to guide you towards the light of your authentic self.

Choosing Soul Recovery and Healing Yourself is How You Help Others

Choosing Soul Recovery and Healing Yourself is How You Help Others

Are you overwhelmed with the feelings of wanting to help and fix the people and even the world around you?  It is painful to see others caught up in behaviors or emotions that are hurting them and so our first instinct is to jump into action and try to 'fix it'.  In Soul Recovery, we are learning that the greatest way you can make change in the world, is by choosing your own healing.  When we take the focus off of changing  them, we can put our focus on the only place where we really have any control- in healing our own hearts and souls.  When we remember our wholeness and interact with the world from this place, we are able to help from a healthy state of mind and soul, allowing others to have their own experiences and choosing their own path.

Detachment and Letting go of Controlling What Others are Doing

Detachment and Letting go of Controlling What Others are Doing

In the latest podcast episode, a member of our Facebook Soul Recovery community posted about the struggle with detachment and the challenge of relinquishing control over others' actions and energy. This topic hits close to home for many, including myself, as the constant battle against the urge to mold our surroundings to fit our desires remains an ongoing journey. Both in Al-Anon and on the Soul Recovery path, loving detachment is a key element in letting go of our desire to control others, regardless of how 'helpful' our help may seem to be.

It's all too common to feel the itch to judge or feel irked when those around us diverge from what we perceive as the 'right' path, especially when it seems like a misuse of time or potentially harmful. Embracing the foundational principle of Soul Recovery—allowing others to exist authentically as themselves—demands acknowledging our internal conflicts. This doesn't mean neglecting our own needs; it means being curious about the reasons behind our judgments.

By turning the attention to ourselves,  we gain clarity on the root of our hurt or frustration. This introspection allows us to practice compassionate detachment, fostering acceptance of others just as they are. It's a journey of acknowledging our emotions, understanding them, and employing loving detachment to navigate our interactions with a more empathetic perspective.

Let Go to Let Grow (Business Devo)

Let Go to Let Grow (Business Devo)

    Scripture Reference

    Mark 8:34-38

Letting go of tight control and submitting to God's greater plan leads to expanded growth, financial freedom, and true peace. Clinging too tightly prevents discovering your full potential.

    Summary

In this passage, Jesus explains spiritual principles that also apply to business growth and success. Desiring great outcomes requires sacrifice and doing hard things. Holding too tightly to control and money management prevents you from having the mindset for true abundance. Letting go allows God's supernatural power to multiply what you have.

True high performance in business overlaps with excellent Christianity. Protecting integrity matters more than money or achievements. God's plans for your business go far beyond what you can currently envision. Submitting your ambitions to His purpose allows faster growth.

Don't compartmentalize God from work. Be bold living out kingdom principles in all areas of life. The world's ways suffocate potential, but God's ways lead to peace and freedom. What could you achieve if not limited by your own tight grip? Take a step of faith in a bigger direction.

    • Do hard things for great outcomes [00:00] - Great rewards require pushing through challenges that make others quit. Be willing to sacrifice and take risks.
    • Loosen your grip to increase abundance [10:22] - Holding tightly to control and money management keeps you small. Let go and let God's supernatural power multiply what's in your hands.
    • Submit plans to discover God's bigger purpose [15:44] - Your visions limit what's possible. Lay ambitions before God to align with His purpose for exponential growth.

Episode 288 - Michael with Peter Zaremba, "7 Toxic Outcomes of Maintaining Control"

Welcome to another episode of Restoring the Soul with Michael John Cusick. Today, Peter Zaremba is our guest, and we'll dive into the intricate topic of control and its negative impact. Control has become a paramount issue, particularly during the pandemic and times of global upheaval. It's a universal human condition, a survival mechanism, but often, the desire to control is tethered to our outcomes, and that's where things start getting complicated.

Join us as we share our journeys with control, our struggles, and the toll it has taken on our well-being. It's not always easy to accept what we can't control, but there's a certain liberation in letting go. We'll explore the concept of the 'circle of control' - envisioning those things squarely under our control and those that aren't.

As we meditate on our collective challenges with outcomes and control, we'll face the hard truth - that our happiness doesn't stem from our control over outcomes. We'll explore the confusing difference between a healthy desire for change and an unhealthy attachment to results. We'll delve into how our craving for control can lead to emotional turmoil, relationship struggles, and even addictive behaviors.

The Forgetter's Temptation: Awareness and Clarity from an Accidental High

The Forgetter's Temptation: Awareness and Clarity from an Accidental High

In this episode I share a personal experience that recently happened to me when I accidentally got stoned from CBD - it was quite an eye-opening surprise. It made me realize that the even though I had no desire to be altered in any state in my conscious mind, if I am honest, the "forgetter" was in my subconscious, and I had not been aware of it. The experience brought light to me that I had been starting to forget how bad it had gotten for me when I was drinking.  I am so grateful  for my Soul Recovery, and this strange experience gave me a deep appreciation for my sobriety and clear mind.

    145. Well Said with Sarah Molitor

    145. Well Said with Sarah Molitor

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29

This week I am joined by the lovely Sarah Molitor to discuss her new book "Well Said* choosing words that speak life, give grace, and strengthen your faith and family." What we say matters, and how we breathe life into our spouses, our children, our friends, and family is a vital proponent of how we love. But what if we have used our voices and our words in ways that have left behind hurt, destruction, and pain? This my friends is not the end of the story. No, the King of the Universe desires to pour out his mercies and his graces upon us so that we can be made new  in how we live and how we love.
