Happy Holidays from The Source LGBT+ Center! On today’s episode, we’re introducing our new host of the Queer Goggles Podcast, Phae Lockwood, who will be taking the Queer Goggles ship over in the coming weeks! I know change is hard but we assure you that the podcast rests in capable hands. We are also excited to speak with The Source’s Programs Manager, Alix Carranza, The Source’s Youth Board President, Giselle, and the Youth Board’s Secretary, Nikolas as part of our first panel episode. We will be discussing the LGBTQ+ experience of the Holiday Season, especially for queer youth, ways to cope with the stresses of the holidays, and our favorite queer holiday books and movies. Spoiler alert: a lot of them are not Christmas-themed!

Are you ready to dive into another exciting episode of Let's Be Perfectly Queer? I hope you are, because we have a lot to talk about today. We've been up to some interesting things lately including Archie getting a tattoo (and not just any tattoo, but one that involved Pokémon and Thor!). But that's not all, folks.

Today, we're shining a spotlight on a somber and disheartening event that recently took place in Canada - the 1 Million March for Children. The wonderful Jaymze from Canada suggested we discuss it, and boy, does it deserve our attention.  It's disheartening to see Canada, a country that has always been known for its progressive values, take a step back in promoting hate and misinformation within the LGBTQIA community. It's incredibly frustrating to witness the rise in LGBTQIA discrimination, fueled by misinformation and a resistance to change.

But here's the thing, my friends. LGBTQIA+ rights don't take away from anyone else's rights. It's about equality and understanding, not a zero-sum game. By denying someone else their rights, we only create a worse future with more discrimination and impaired education. Education is the foundation for progress, and we must ensure that everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, has the opportunity to learn and thrive.

So, join us now as we delve deep into these pressing topics and discuss the need for inclusive discussions and education on discrimination. It's time to shed light on the importance of acceptance, understanding, and building a safe environment for LGBTQIA individuals.

Don't miss out on this eye-opening episode of Let's Be Perfectly Queer. Tap play now and let's dive in together.

How To Live Unapologetically Self-Expressed In All Areas of Life: Queer Dating & Parenting, Creating Family Boundaries, & Mentoring the Next Generation w/ Matt Corker

Today, I have a conversation with my friend Matt Corker about living unapologetically yourself in all areas of your life.

Matt opens up about his experience being a gay father and husband and how he had to become the queer role model and representation he needed to create a life he really wanted. He shares how he found the man of his dreams by following the 5 date rule for one whole year. We also talk about how vital it is to create healthy family boundaries with heterosexual family members if we want to living full expressed and free.

Matt and I both have a deep calling to mentor the next generation of LGBQTIA+ humans and create a new future that truly benefits marginalized communities and all of humanity. We discuss the intentional steps we are taking to do this and how you can be a part of this movement with us.

Matt is a proud gay dad to his precious 2-year old Sasha with the love of his life Chad, his husband of 5 years. He’s an inspiring coach and is passionate about helping organizations succeed by developing vision-led leaders. Most recently he was the Chief Operating Officer of Smash + Tess, overseeing their operations, sales, and people teams. Matt holds a MBA from the Copenhagen Business School, is a 200 E-RYT yoga teacher, and is a two time lip-sync battle champion.

Rev. Dr. Jerry’s husband, also Jerry, died in 2018, after a 33 year relationship.  As a result of experiencing conflicting feelings of grief, loss and “toxic positivity,” he created an interactive workshop titled “The Search for Inner Peace:  Being at Home in the Muddy Water.”

Through the grieving process, Jerry connected with others, especially in the LGBTQ community, experiencing difficulty in finding a sense of purpose and possibility after the death of a dear one or other life trauma.  As a result of his connection with “ElderPride,” a focus ministry of the Centers for Spiritual Living, he began creating his second book about life after 60, which is expected to be published in 2023.
