    Kunne du bo i provinsen?

    Kunne du bo i provinsen?

Rob Adams on Urban Choreography, the Value of Failure, and What "Livability" Actually Means

Rob Adams on Urban Choreography, the Value of Failure, and What "Livability" Actually Means

"My granddaughter thinks that all I do is widen footpaths." Rob Adams gave Ben and Cate a number of different descriptions of exactly what he does in his role as City Architect of Melbourne, Australia, but we think that may be our favorite.

To call Rob a legend in the urban design world may be an understatement. Alongside Jan Gehl and others, his groundbreaking work to transform the city center (ahem, centre) of Melbourne in the 1980s and 90s created a veritable blueprint for struggling urban areas to follow. For years, Melborune has been routinely written up as one of the planet's most "livable" cities - but what does that actually mean to people who live there?

Rob reflects with us on the tricky politics of urban revitalization, why walkability matters during a global pandemic, and what comes next for Melbourne and cities everywhere.

How to design for the unpredictable city

How to design for the unpredictable city

Urban design concepts are blossoming. But what happens to the ‘organically’ grown urban life when these all-round concepts are being implemented?

Anne Katrine Harders asks architect and founder of BIG, Bjarke Ingels, and director of Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Marion Waller if there is a risk that the uncontrollable bits and pieces that assemble the city, and makes it unique, is unintentionally getting killed by all the good intentions of urban concepts.

Tune in to this English version the well-established podcast Byen forfra by Danish Architecture Center. Synes du, Distortion støjer for meget?

Synes du, Distortion støjer for meget?

    Why location data matters

    Why location data matters

There’s a lot to consider when going through the home buying process, one of the most significant being location. Location not only impacts price, and the scale of the investment, but also quality of life. So how can technology play a role in the decision making process when it comes to enhancing our quality of life? After all, technology has transformed the way in which real estate is build, bought and sold.

In this episode, we’re joined by Vincent-Charles Hodder, co-founder and CEO of Local Logic, and head of marketing, Jillian Ruiz. Local Logic is a real estate AI company providing an innovative approach to buying and selling by applying location based data and algorithms to change the way cities are built and real estate decisions are made. Tune in to hear our discussion on Canadian real estate in the pandemic era, infrastructure and its impact on local businesses, and factors in a neighbourhood that contribute to our quality of life.

Seoul Ranked #58 In World Livability
A new report from The Economist on the "livability" of cities around the world ranks Seoul #58, one spot below Detroit, a city that has become the largest municipal bankruptcy filing in U.S. history. Korea FM spoke with the editor of the report and a researcher on the project, who helped compile rankings for many Asian cities on the list, to find out why Seoul didn't rank higher. We also spoke to a partner of "Reurbanist", a  company that works in Seoul with many of the factors used in the rankings, to hear if they agree with Seoul's #58 "livability" ranking.
