My guest is drummer, producer and a founding member of "The Hooters," David Uosikkinen! David and I discuss how he became interested in music, The Beatles on Ed Sullivan and becoming a drummer. Playing in bands as a teenager and ultimately forming "The Hooters" in 1980, recording their first major label release "Nervous Night" and its subsequent success, performing at Live AID in their hometown of Philadelphia 1985, the influence of MTV and much more!  This week it’s the start of another series of interviews with a common thread running through them…these are all musicians and singers I have been lucky to chat to over the years…and we start with a lady who comes from my neck of the woods in the UK, the county of Essex and the lady concerned is singer songwriter Alison Moyet noted for her powerful bluesy voice. 

John Oates is one half of the best-selling duo of all time, Hall & Oates, as well as an accomplished solo artist. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The American Songwriters Hall of Fame, recipient of the prestigious BMI Icon Award as well as numerous American Music, MTV awards, and multiple Grammy nominations.

Since forming his creative partnership with Daryl Hall in the early 1970s, they have gone on to record 21 albums, which have sold over 80 million units, making them the most successful duo in rock history. They have scored 10 number one records, over 20 Top 40 hits, and have toured the world for decades. Their involvement in the original “Live Aid” concert and the groundbreaking “We Are The World” charity recording have further established them as legendary artists, who have personally and through their music, stood the test of time.

It's a great chat as the guys discuss John's early days, meeting Daryl Hall in 1967, songwriting, playing Live Aid and his charity work with Feeding America.

First up is a look at the songs that landed at number 85 on the year end charts on Billboard and Cashbox -- a song that seems to follow Joe and Kari everywhere they go, and a song inspired by a Paul Newman movie. // 1985 was the year of Live Aid -- do you remember where you were when this global event aired? Bob Geldof used his pull to get everyone and their mother involved, for better or worse! One of the acts on stage was Simple Minds, who also made their Top 40 debut in 1985.
