#307: What I Care About as a Fitness Studio Owner

#307: What I Care About as a Fitness Studio Owner

Jumping into the first week of October with a slightly different topic on the podcast and in this weekly message…

Now that we’ve hopped back into our fall routines, and as we have now been at our newest studio location for six months, I’ve been thinking about YOUR experience at Get Lively.

Chatting more about this and more on this week’s show, but wanted to share some of the things that we really care about as it relates to your experience and helping you to live your most lively life.

And if you’ve got feedback to share on your experience, please let me know!

There are so many ways to GET LIVELY. We are a Lifestyle Studio on a mission to help YOU smile MORE. Through training, group fitness, virtual classes, celebratory life events and more, we are your one stop shop for living a healthier and happier life! www.getlivelynow.com

    #306: Beyond Food and Exercise

    #306: Beyond Food and Exercise

As promised, here is part two of my thoughts and reflections after watching the Netflix docuseries: Live to 100: Lessons from the Blue Zones.

In last week’s show, I talked about the lessons we have to learn from how people who live in these regions eat and move… and to break it down in the simplest of terms:

They eat mostly plants, foods they grow, very little that is processed.

They move a lot, they garden, they walk, they do manual labor (ie. no kitchen aid in these regions).

So there’s that, but what I really wanted to talk about this week was what they do beyond food and exercise that seems to contribute to their longevity…

    Their sense of community.

    Their sense of purpose.

Listen to this week's episode as I share more.

#305: Do you want to live to 100?

#305: Do you want to live to 100?

I watched a docuseries called: Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones, on Netflix.

I first learned about the “blue zones” about a decade ago while studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  If you are not familiar with the phrase, it’s the five areas around the globe where people live/or have lived, much higher than average.  So basically, much higher percentages of people living into 100 and beyond.

This week’s show and email are basically my reaction to what I saw, heard, and learned.  I’m not even sure how to process it all, but I do want to share my thoughts.

Passion Music Shares How to Build a Community that Engages in Worship
Have you ever experienced that feeling of going to another church service, seeing people passionately engage in worship, and because of it, wishing your church was like that?  It’s simultaneously energizing and discouraging.

Brett Yonker from Passion Music is no stranger to that experience.

In today’s conversation we explore how to create a community where people are excited about participating in worship.

It really comes down to one simple thing that we as worship leaders must continually do.

    Binge #9 - Frenzy (2018)

    Recorded May 19, 2021

The fellas take a deep dive into the world of extreme travel vlogging this week with the SyFy original film Frenzy. Two sisters try to overcome their personal issues as they become stranded on a raft in illegal waters filled with freaking great white sharks! The Fellas struggle to cope with the awful effects and screenwriting and along the way learn a thing or two about the archetype of an Evan. Echo Bridge Home Entertainment is here and it’s ready to piss us off with this mockbuster of The Shallows!

How will these insufferable jerks survive the choppy waters of Thailand? Will Javier The Pilot see justice in this nightmare? Is that plane a jpeg?

    200 - Green Lantern

"I cannot fully express my disappointment with almost every decision that was made"

The road is Green Lantern is OVER! Revisiting fanboy heartbreak is the only way to celebrate 200 episodes of the decade-late movie show. Join us as we discuss EVERYTHING about Green Lantern, the emotional spectrum, Sinestro's backstory, popcorn seasoning, Hal Jordan's cowardice, what creeps do (sniff hair), conceiving a child at 10 years old, Hal Jordan's terrible disguise, the history of the Green Lantern movie's development, the Jack Black Green Lantern script, the casting, comparisons to Daredevil (2003), Ryan Reynolds live-tweeting the movie and Bradley Cooper's audition. All that plus Parents Guide Challenge, Fun Facts and Tenzie awards!

Honestly, sincerely, thank you all for listening and supporting the show for however long you have been doing it. Didn't think we'd ever get to 200 episodes, but it means a lot. - Bow

    Hi folks!

Hope you're keeping okay. This one is fairly lively but I think still very much in the vein of music that can help you focus. I'm pretty pleased with it actually. Some nice wub wub bass in there :)

I have about six albums of music at conelrad.bandcamp.com. They're mostly shorter tracks, but these are the albums that inspired conelcast (because people told me that they listened to them while working)/

    Hi folks!

Hope you're doing alright. I know there's all kinds of pressure on people right now; i'm not excluded from that. It's been tougher than usual over here for various reasons not limited to the pandemic, but continuing to keep conelcast going has been a good thing to focus on. As usual, I hope conelcast helps you a bit too.

Episode 104: The Rhythm Section, The Two Popes

Episode 104: The Rhythm Section, The Two Popes
Image result for the rhythm section

It’s Super Bowl weekend, which is traditionally a pretty quiet time at the movies. The main one opening this week is the Blake Lively action thriller “The Rhythm Section,” which Alonso, Matt and Christy review on the latest episode of Breakfast All Day. We also play catch-up with “The Two Popes” because we realized it was the main Oscar nominee we hadn’t discussed yet (and you can watch it, as well, on Netflix). And over at our Patreon, we discuss the chilling latest episode of “The Outsider” on HBO. Whip up a batch of queso, invite some friends over and join us.

The Lively Set with Steve Lehto

The Lively Set with Steve Lehto

Some background on this episode - Last time we had Steve Lehto on the podcast (for Tucker: The Man and his Dream), we started talking about the Chrysler Turbine Car. It was Steve who told us it actually was center stage in an obscure movie, so...

Steve Lehto of Lehtoslaw.com joins us once again to discuss The Lively Set! This 1964 movie is almost a propaganda piece for Chrysler's engineering division and their efforts to make a turbine powered car.

The legend at the center of it is Chrysler's experimental Turbine Car - they made 55 of them. 54 were painted bronze and one was painted white just for this movie.

Steve is the definitive authority on the Turbine Car. He literally wrote the book on it. He is the source for most of the Wikipedia page, and he got invited by Jay Leno to drive the Turbine Car in his collection.

Needless to say you're in for some fascinating stories. This episode is required listening. Enjoy!

Pop Rocket Ep. 192 The Pop Rocket Seal of Approval - Is It Rachel’s Time to Bloom? Plus Destination Wedding

Pop Rocket Ep. 192 The Pop Rocket Seal of Approval - Is It Rachel’s Time to Bloom? Plus Destination Wedding

We’ve got another full panel! This week, Guy, Wynter, Margaret, and Karen tackle the ornery romcom Destination Wedding, starring Gen X darlings Winona and Keanu. Does their star-power shine bright enough to carry an entire film wherein they’re the only two people with dialogue? Has Hollywood discovered how to effectively harness their charm and charisma? You’ll find out as the panel weighs in on these questions and more.

The Pop Rocket Seal of Approval

The full quorum convened to vote on another nominee for the Pop Rocket Seal of Approval. Listeners will remember that the last time a quorum was convened, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did not receive enough votes from the three panelists present--Guy, Karen & Margaret. He was denied the award based on damaging GOP convention and Ballers-related critiques. In this episode, the panelists vote on whether to grant the accolade to Crazy Ex Girlfriend star and creator Rachel Bloom. Will her boundary-pushing musical-making hustle and sexualization of the hot, Asian bro win the judges over?

Jam Abouts = All Abouts + That's My Jam

Wynter is all about André & Sarah - the sixth episode in the Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen Amazon series Forever.

Karen is all about the new Paul Feig film A Simple Favor starring Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, and Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding.

Margaret is all about the 3rd season of HBO's Insecure.

Guy is all about the adorably cute YouTube video series Kids Try by HiHo Kids.

With Guy BranumKaren TongsonWynter Mitchell-Rohrbaugh, and Margaret Wappler.
