Vanessa Harper is the Senior Director of Adult Jewish Living at Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, MA and as the Reform Rabbi-in-Residence at Gann Academy in Waltham, MA. She bakes challah that interprets the Torah portion each week in what was originally an Instagram-based educational project, then a kinetic midrash class, and now a book: Loaves of Torah: Exploring the Jewish Year Through Challah. She joins Dan and Lex for a conversation about living in creative relationship to Judaism, and challah as a chevruta (study-partner).

These are pilgrimage locations related to places where according to tradition Jesus lived, spoke to his followers, visited synagogues and did miracles.

Disclaimer: I am a trained tour guide at the Bethlehem Bible College, I am not a theologian and I do not belong to any religion. I am telling the stories the way they were told and explained to me by Palestinian Christians who still live in the land where Jesus lived 2000 years ago.

Anyone who might feel reluctant to surrender his will to the will of another should remember Jesus’ words, “Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” We must of necessity be servant to someone, either to God or to sin. The sinner prides himself on his independence, completely overlooking the fact that he is the weak slave of the sins that rule his members. Man constantly thinks about the physical, while Jesus is showing us what's really important, the spirit! While our focus tends to revolve about our belly buttons and how to deal with caring for our physical needs, Jesus directs us to the important/critical part of our being, our spirit. For if Satan can keep us focused on the worldly, then we can't truly worship God in spirit and truth!

Man is so short sighted and yet, Jesus is lovingly focused on our spiritual future because that's what will last! Today, we read that despite all of the miracles already done, the people want just one more!!! Jesus knows, that even if He performed one more, that wouldn't be enough. As a result, He focuses on our spirits, not our bodies. Join me in reading about His miracles and love for us and be encouraged!
