Episode 56: Laws of Nature, Self-Evident Truths, and God

Episode 56: Laws of Nature, Self-Evident Truths, and God

The Declaration of Independence contains a number of words and phrases that have been tortured by modern scholars. What does it mean that some truths are “self-evident,” and what are “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God?” Were the founders appealing to human reason or biblical truths?

About the Green Dragon Tavern Show

“Talking a little treason.” Veteran political operative Zach Lautenschlager and retired MLB pitcher Dennis Sarfate bring breaking news and inside commentary on American culture, politics and business.

The Green Dragon Tavern is where Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty gathered in Boston during the American Revolution. “Let us go to the Green Dragon and talk a little treason,” Founding Father Samuel Adams would say, tongue in cheek, according to legend.

Today, the Green Dragon Tavern Show is where free men and women gather in defense of freedom.

Escuela Grind's Katerina Economou on The Difference between Hate and Anger, Spiritual Examination as a Social Remedy, and the Divinity of Architecture

Escuela Grind's Katerina Economou on The Difference between Hate and Anger, Spiritual Examination as a Social Remedy, and the Divinity of Architecture
Sometimes it takes an architect to see practical solutions to the issues in the rock and metal scene, and that's exactly who we brought on this week. Katerina Economou, vocalist of one of the fastest rising grindcore acts out there, Escuela Grind, joins Psychic Warfare to speak about what separates hate from anger, the idea of spiritual examination as a potential remedy for social issues, and the unseen philosophical beauty of architecture.

The Origins of Western Law - Pt 3 Natural Law Twisted and Turned In The Enlightenment

The Origins of Western Law - Pt 3 Natural Law Twisted and Turned In The Enlightenment

Welcome back to part 3 of our series on Western Law. The concept of natural law, that governed justice for some 2000 years, is put under duress during the period known as the enlightenment.
Many changes and new concepts emerge, including some that are directly embedded in the U.S. declaration of independence and its Constitution. The plot definitely thickens.

    S1 E28: Political Philosophy

    S1 E28: Political Philosophy

What are the qualities of a righteous government? Is it complete governance by the people? Complete authority from the government? A mix of both? In this episode, Mark and Adam look at the answers to these questions provided by philosophers from the Early Modern era. They delve into Machiavelli's practical, yet cynical and brutal approach to how to lead a group of people. They look at the complete impracticality of a Utopian society and discuss the supremely influential ideals of John Locke. Also influential but destructive are the beliefs of Rousseau and Hegel, who herald the abilities of the majority or the state to always determine what is best. All these philosophers and more (including various political rants) are discussed in this episode of Unlimited Opinions!  Follow as on Twitter! @UlmtdOpinions

    S1 E26: Mind and Soul

This isn't a podcast episode! This is just your collection of ideas about a podcast episode! You can't perceive us, no matter how hard you try! On this episode of Unlimited Opinions, Mark and Adam look at the Early Modern perspectives on mind and soul. They look at whether or not souls exist, how they relate to our bodies, and what exactly our identity is. They cover philosophers like Descartes, John Locke, Berkeley, Spinoza, and many more!  Follow us on Twitter to get updates on when the next episode is live! @UlmtdOpinions

Fear Inoculant 1 - Events, Reality, Freedom, and Revolution

Fear Inoculant 1 - Events, Reality, Freedom, and Revolution

Many things in modern life make us fearful. The Fear Inoculant series  will explore ways to be less fearful and live a more authentic life. In this, the first of three episodes, we cover a host of philosophical concepts aimed at demystifying reality in order to lay the groundwork for examining social movements in the next episode. We start with exploring how certain Events can seem to change the past and present, Reality itself and a couple ways to quantify it, how Noam Chomsky and Slavoj Zizek can never seem to agree, Dialectics and the limits of reason, Metaphysics and how to separate yourself from the universe, Freedom and how to measure it, Existentialism and other curses from the gods, Sociology and how to build a society, how school brainwashes you, plus Economics, The State, Violence, Alienation, Structural Ideology, Neurotypicality, Revolution, and somehow even more!

    S1 E23: Knowledge

    S1 E23: Knowledge

What can we know? How much can we know? Who cares? All these questions and more are answered in this episode of Unlimited Opinions! Mark and Adam break down the various Early Modern philosophical perspectives on what we can and cannot know. Adam's least favorite philosophy, scepticism, rears its ugly head in full force, and the pair looks at realism, idealism, empiricism, nominalism, and the various other approaches to knowledge. S1 E21: Descartes to Berkeley

    S1 E21: Descartes to Berkeley

We can't prove if anything exists or not, and that's either really scary or does not matter at all! On this episode of Unlimited Opinions, Mark and Adam break down more of the Early Modern Philosophers from Descartes to Berkeley, as the name would suggest. They discuss Descartes' massive influence on all of modern philosophy, John Locke's brilliant political ideas, Baruch Spinoza's examination of Scripture, and George Berkeley's perception of non-existence.

Also, please forgive the two moments in the podcast where the audio drops out! We would fix it, but we truthfully have very little idea how to work recording equipment, as is probably evident by this point.

Locke and Key - S1E10 Crown of Shadows

Locke and Key - S1E10 Crown of Shadows

This week, Dodge finally dons the headband of shadows and comes for the gang. After three or four minutes with it, the Locke kids find a passed out Dodge who doesn't have the crown. They immediately determine the best solution is to call all their friends, drag this passed out person into the sea caves and throw them into the black door. Honestly, that sentence makes no sense even if you have been watching the show all season.

Locke and Key - S1E7 Dissection

There is so much happening this week! We have kidnappings, sex with Dodge, fetal pigs, and death! What could we possibly add to make the episode more exciting?!

Nina takes up gin drinking - but only in classy mugs. Kinsey tricks a killer into fighting her fear. Tyler sleeps with the gang's mortal enemy who he definitely has seen at least once but somehow doesn't recognize her until he sees her haphazardly abandoned key.
