Drew And Fuse Show Episode 100 Ft. DJ Kevin Scott
EPISODE 100 is finally here!!!! In this episode Drew & Fuse sit down with the one, and only DJ Kevin Scott. Kevin was recently on The Road Podcast, and talks a lot about his part as a producer on 'As I Am' - The Life And Times Of DJ AM, the documentary about the Legendary DJ AM. While we loved that episode, we wanted to talk to Kevin a lot about his success as a DJ. Kevin was the Resident DJ at LAX, DJ AM's club in LA. He was one of the original members of Deckstar, and traveled all over playing gigs. We talked with him about the importance of signature mixes, and making mixtapes. We also talk to him about being one of the first to make mixable intros, and acapella outs, the importance of prepping for gigs, and making edits. This is an amazing episode with someone we call a friend and mentor. We promise there is tons of valuable information in this episode. Thanks to everyone who has followed us on this journey, likes, shares, subscribes, follows, and supports us through it all. We appreciate all the DAFS PUNKS!!!

JOAN JETT OTHER WORK not necessarily mentioned in the episode (for time only - we stan!)

Jett returned to producing for the band Circus Lupus in 1992 and again, in 1994, for Bikini Kill. The Riot Grrrl movement started in the early 1990s, with Bikini Kill as a representative band, and many of these women credited Jett as a role model and inspiration.

In 1997, Jett was featured on the We Will Fall: The Iggy Pop Tribute album. She performed a cover of the Johnny O'Keefe song "Wild One" (or "Real Wild Child"). Jett worked with members of the punk rock band the Gits, whose lead singer and lyricist, Mia Zapata, had been raped and murdered in 1993. The results of their collaboration was a live album, Evil Stig and a single, "Bob", whose earnings were contributed to the investigation of Zapata's murder. To this end, the band and Jett appeared on the television show America's Most Wanted, appealing to the public for information. The case was solved in 2004, when Zapata's murderer, Jesus Mezquia, was brought to trial and convicted.

At an October 2001 9/11 benefit in Red Bank, New Jersey, Jett and Springsteen appeared together on stage for the first time and played "Light of Day".

In 2004, Jett and Laguna produced the album No Apologies by the pop punk band the Eyeliners, after signing them. Jett also guested on the track "Destroy" and made a cameo appearance in its music video.

In 2005, Jett and Laguna signed punk rockers the Vacancies and produced their second album, A Beat Missing or a Silence Added (reaching the top 20 in CMJ Music Charts), and their third album in 2007, Tantrum. That same year, she was recruited by Steven Van Zandt to host her own radio show on Van Zandt's Underground Garage radio channel on Sirius Satellite Radio. She hosted a four-hour show titled Joan Jett's Radio Revolution, broadcast every Saturday and Sunday. The program moved from Sirius 25 (Underground Garage) to Sirius 28 shortly before being canceled in June 2008.

In 2005, Jett and Laguna celebrated the 25th anniversary of Blackheart Records with a se

Drew And Fuse Show Episode 089 - Stonerokk

Drew And Fuse Show Episode 089 - Stonerokk
In this episode Drew & Fuse sit down with the other half of the Legendary dj duo, The Captains of Industry, DJ Stonerokk. This episode is amazing in so many ways. Stonerokk tells amazing stories from his time on the road, his residency's in LA, and what it was like to be a Guys, Guy. (Inside joke listen to the episode). We have always loved the marketing / the take the Capts have had on djing, and we have modeled a lot of the show off their impact on DJ culture. From wearing AM's mixer on a chain to the club, to making Britney Spears cry, and giving Paris Hilton a crispy Benjamin to leave him alone, this episode has more than you could ever want. Episode #30: Kay Kay 🇺🇸 🇰🇭

    Episode #30: Kay Kay 🇺🇸 🇰🇭

In this episode, I travel back to Phnom Penh, Cambodia – one of my favorite places in the world – and sit down with my friend Kay Kay.

Kay Kay is one of the “Deportees,” those Cambodian nationals who grew up in the U.S. but were later deported back to Cambodia, to a country and even language they didn’t know. Raised in California in a poor neighborhood amid crime, drugs, and gangs, Kay Kay was more about the breakdancing and graffiti tagging life.

However, he did fall victim to the streets and ended up spending multiple bids in prison and then immigration jail. After years of incarceration in the U.S. system, he was shackled on an airplane and deported to Cambodia.

It’s there that Kay Kay’s true journey starts, as he soon helping poor street kids who had no one else, and then taking them in. He first taught them his break dancing skills, and then offered life guidance and mentorship.

The movement grew and eventually became Tiny Toones, an international non-profit that’s still in existence today after nearly two decades, offering formal education, life skills, and even job placement.

According to their website, “Our mission is to provide a safe, positive environment for at‐risk youth to channel their energy and creativity into the arts and education, empowering them to build self‐confidence in their daily lives, aim for better employment possibilities, and feel supported pursuing their dreams.”

Kay Kay still runs Tiny Toones all of these years later, making it his life’s mission to save kids from the same gangs, streets, and temptations that almost claimed his life.

Enjoy this part 1 of my conversation with Kay Kay and feel free to check out Tiny Toones and make a humble donation at: www.tinytoones.org

Artist Michael Stearns: Living In Color

Between 1964 and 1966, Stearns served in Vietnam and Japan as a photographer while on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Following his time in the service, he was a partner in a ceramics studio, Opus ll, where he taught ceramics as well as drawing and painting.

Stearns was a fire captain and paramedic with the Los Angeles County Fire Department from 1967 to 1988 and was a consultant on the television show Emergency!

Michael studied at California State University at Los Angeles

In 2002 he opened Gallery 33 in Long Beach, California. It exhibited artists such as Lori LaMont, Todd Brainard, Richard Lopez, Elizabeth Washburn, Adam Normandin and Roderick Briggs. The gallery closed in 2008.

In 2012 he moved his studio and gallery to San Pedro, under the name Michael Stearns Studio 347 and later to Michael Stearns Studio at the LOFT.

As a sculptor Michael works with cardboard and newspaper as a way to bring nature and urban society together.

In Michael’s artist statement, he explains how his work exemplifies his spirit. It reads in part:

"In my work I dig deep into the origin of life and explore the universal questions; how did we arrive and what is the force driving this existence?

I strive also to invite the observer into this place of examination.

As a painter, I work with organic shapes and mostly bold colors to intensify the imagery. In my sculptures I incorporate natural materials along with urban components, creating communication out of discord."
