We go arthouse this week, and surprise surprise, we have some very different feelings about this one. This week we're talking the one and only, My Dinner with Andre. In this episode we're just two guys talking about two guys talking. We argue whether or not this film works, what could have been done differently, and the guts to make something this unique. 33 - ירח שחור | Black Moon

Black Moon

Elevator to the Gallows by Louis Malle

The “Cinephile Cuties” are ready to get stuck in an elevator. That’s because they’re chatting about Louis Malle’s Elevator to the Gallows. They also talk about deadly Patrick’s “bundling” addiction. Plus, Casey and Patrick put the film through their proprietary Fartsy Test. And Patrick recommends a drink pairing.

In the eighth episode of Season 2, Noir Means Noir, Kyle is joined by film critic Tyler Harlow (of the After Credits Blog) and cinematographer Josh Carter to discuss the seminal pre-cursor to French New Wave and the extraordinary blend of noir style, mood, and existential pondering in Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows.

My Dinner with Andre by Louis Malle

My Dinner with Andre by Louis Malle

The Cinephile Cuties are ready to have an incomprehensibly boring conversation! That’s because they are discussing Louis Malle’s, My Dinner with Andre. The Cuties have never been so divided on a film, and it threatens the very existence of the show. Casey and Patrick also discuss being embarrassed about their jobs, the art of conversation, and Wallace Shawn’s beautifully odd visage. The boys run My Dinner with Andre through the “Fartsy Test.” Patrick recommends a drink pairing. And, they give each other notes to help improve the show. Listen in next week to see if that works!

ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS: French Noir with Great Cars

ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS: French Noir with Great Cars

The Cinemondo gang takes another trip to Paris to check out Louis Malle’s 1958 jazzy crime drama ELEVATOR TO THE GALLOWS. This one has everything you want in a noir film from the beautiful femme fatale Jeanne Moreau to the classic bad choices that lead to devastating mayhem, unexpected plot twists that take the story down tangents you never saw coming, tragic Parisian street crooks, spy cameras, grappling hooks and a haunting score by none other than Miles Davis. It’s full of cigarette smoke and guns and some super cool cars… and we love it.

SPOILER WARNING: This episode contains MAJOR SPOILERS which means important story details will be revealed. We always advise listeners to: Watch First Listen Later.
