    With so much going on in the world right now, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Each and every one of us is affected by what’s happening.

    Welcome to the Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond.

    Today’s meditation is a practice of creating space in our lives. We practice cultivating a space of refuge in our busy lives amidst all the challenging and difficult things happening in our world. In this space of refuge we can just leave everything at the door and just be with ourselves in this moment.

    We begin this meditation by intentionally leaving everything at the door and we connect with how you are feeling in this moment in your body, mind and heart.

    After some time resting in this space of refuge we transition into some loving kindness, compassion practice for ourselves, those affected by the recent gun violence and then all beings.

    Today’s meditation is in response to the recent horrible gun violence incidents in which so many innocent lives were cut short, because of the gun laws in this country. I am feeling sad, angry and frustrated as I imagine many others are feeling.

    In this meditation I invite you to create space for you to connect with how you are feeling and how what’s going on in the world (and its so much) is feeling in your body, mind and heart.

    Then we transition into some loving kindness, compassion practice.

    We begin with ourselves and then offer our kindness to those in Uvalde, Buffalo, California, and Toronto.

    Then we expand to all humans living in the United States, since in reality we are all affected by gun violence.

    Given the current situation with the new Omnicon variant and the incredible surge in cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the United States and all around the world, I thought it would be helpful and supportive to do a special guided meditation session for all of those suffering with COVID or for those who are worried about COVID as I am.

    This meditation is dedicated to all of the people who are currently suffering, either with the disease itself or who are worried about someone with the disease or getting it themselves.

    Welcome to the Mindful FIRE Podcast, where we explore living mindfully on the path to financial independence and beyond.

    The holidays are a time of joy but they can also bring about stress and worry. This is especially true with the recent surge in covid cases due to the new Omicron variant. I hope you are staying healthy and safe during these challenging times.

    Today's practice is an invitation to take a moment for yourself to release this stress and worry by resting in a simple awareness of your body sitting and breathing. I find that there is something really grounding and easeful about resting in the simplicity of feeling my body breathe in and out.

    We finish today's practice with a simple loving kindness compassion practice in which we practice sending well wishes to ourselves, a loved one and all beings everywhere. This practice of sending and receiving compassion connects us with our inherent goodness and just feels nice.

    COVID-19: Self Care & Discovering Positivity

    Resistance and frustration is an inevitable human reaction to the stressful conditions we are living in. We can learn to allow, observe, and be with our responses as they are, without creating more tension or negative self judgment. Self care means treating ourselves with kindness, learning how to be gentle when needed and how to turn our minds away from thought patterns that sap our vitality and well-being. 

    Working with tools such as breath, body scan, or love & kindness all affect different parts of the brain and produce different long term changes if we keep practicing. We'll touch on what creates changes in our state experience and what leads to lasting effects or changes in our personality traits. We will also look at conditioned guilt or habit of minimizing positivity in order to seem more "empathetic" and consider the value and importance of accessing the irrepressible positivity of life.
