It’s Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. Love is in the air as couples celebrate with food, flowers, and fondness. Love is in the air with expression of devotion directed from folks on dates to daughters with text messages to dads giving his family sweet delights. Love is in the air with a jaw dropping 145 million Valentine's Day cards given each year. Making Valentine's Day second only to Christmas according to Hallmark a company that makes a ton when love is in the air.
There are some unlovely things happening while love is in the air. A disastrous 7.8-magnitude earthquake a week ago in Syria and Turkey have over 30,000 dead, scores injured and nearly everyone else without shelter, food, and water. Living the best, they can in the freezing cold. The war Ukraine continues to rage with no end to the irrational attack by Russia in sight. As I write this post in the final hour of February 13th at least 3 people have been killed in a shooting at Michigan State University. Yes, there are some unlovely things happening while love is in the air.
God’s love is the one constant in our lives. Food is consumed, flowers wilt and fondness will depart as division, divorce and death will separate us. But nothing will separate us from the love of God. God’s love is more than being in the air, God’s love is so powerful that He sent Jesus who does more that get us, He gives us everlasting love if we only believe.
So, this Valentine’s Day let us keep the love of the Lord in our hearts. For doing so will cause our love which is often up in the air to be more like Jesus. And when we are more like Jesus our love knows no bounds.
