After hearing from Dr. Smith last week, Dr. Kuba had some deep questions on what he and other successful practice owners do differently. What guides them? What unites them? In this episode, Bethany covers three examples from her clients – three practices that are unique and yet are united by a strong, authentic leader. Dr. Kuba and Bethany challenge listeners to truly evaluate if they are genuine and caring people. In fact, they challenge listeners to take leadership to the next level by asking for feedback from team members to evaluate if what one thinks of himself or herself is actually what others perceive. This episode is packed with thought-provoking questions and ideas, so listen closely!

Is the rumor mill running at your office? Are there conversations behind closed doors that cause problems? Team drama is not only stressful but also damaging to a practice. In this episode, Bethany references a client who is struggling with inner-office drama, and then Dr. Kuba weighs in on the value of documentation and open lines of communication. In her office, every conversation with an employee is well-documented and then shared among the leadership team. This form of documentation keeps words from being misconstrued and also prevents the team from wondering about closed-door communication. She also discusses her leadership meeting model.
In this monthly meeting, Bethany, her associate, her lead hygienist, a business team representative, and an RDA representative meet to address a variety of practice decisions and issues. This consistent monthly meeting, along with very well-documented employee meetings, prevents almost all potential for drama in her office. Good communication and good documentation cover a multitude of drama opportunities!

In this episode, Dr. Kuba and Bethany continue their conversation from last week. They discussed more pros and cons of having an office manager, and they specifically discuss how Dr. Kuba utilized a practice manager for many years before shifting to a leadership model. As the conversation unfolds, they find themselves back at the question of, “Does having a manager prevent me from selling my practice?”

This week Michael (Mike) Rose, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Tourmaline joins us as our guest.
Tourmaline made some exciting announcements last week. First, they announced a partnership on a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station network across Western Canada to enable heavy-haul trucks to get off diesel. The company also announced that they plan to double the amount of gas they ship as LNG by 2026.
Here are some of the questions that Jackie and Peter asked Mike: How have Western Canadian gas producers survived low gas prices? Why is Tourmaline investing in natural gas stations for heavy-haul trucking now, considering it still has GHG emissions? Has Tourmaline reduced its environmental footprint, including greenhouse gas emissions? How challenging is it to achieve the federal government’s goal of reducing oil and gas emissions in the range of 40 to 45 percent by 2030? Are you exporting LNG to international markets today? Can Canada compete with the U.S. to supply gas to LNG export terminals on the U.S. Gulf Coast? How much WCSB gas could ultimately be shipped off Canada’s West Coast?

Mr. Petty (Bethany’s husband) joins the studio for the first time today! He teaches government and economics and has a genuine passion for how these subjects impact life. Today, Bethany searches for the cliff note version of what is truly happening in the economy. Are we in a recession? What’s going on with the interest rates? Will those rates impact small business lending? What does the rest of 2023 hold for dental practices? What can they expect? How long do recessions usually last? Once current trends and future predictions are discussed in detail, Mr. Petty concludes with a reminder that small businesses are often the hardest hit by recessions and yet, we’ve survived recessions many times before, so he encourages all practice owners to buckle up, be smart, and get ready!

Insidious misconceptions, false myths, and the lazy thinking pervades the green building sector, we're not happy about it, and nor are the authors of 'Building for 2050 Low cost, low carbon homes'.
This is a recently published BEIS research paper about how low carbon construction is held back by a false understanding of what it costs, how hard it is, and what its users actually think about living with it.
Alison Crompton (AECOM) and Tom Dollard (Pollard Thomas Edwards) were very generous with their time and took us through as much of the project as we could manage.
If you want more, you'll probably find everything you're looking for at www.buildingfor2050.co.uk.
In fact, you definitely should take a look at their website.
This is the article that Sara posted back in December about how low carbon building was being held back by misconceptions about costs.
**SOME SELF-PROMOTING CALLS TO ACTION**
We don't actually earn anything from this, and it's quite a lot of work, so we have to promote the day jobs.
**END OF SELF-PROMOTING CALLS TO ACTION**

One of the most popular episodes thus far on Managing Dental Drama has been the first episode called, “The Art of Retaining Good Employees in a Post-Pandemic Market.” Thirty episodes and ten months later, Dr. Kuba and Bethany tackle this topic again. They both reflect on how much the job market landscape has changed even over a ten-month period of time. Together, they dialogue together on the strategies and mindset necessary to retaining employees while also fully admitting that they do not have the answers. Although almost every practice owner has either lost a valuable team member or is at risk of losing a great employee, Dr. Kuba and Bethany express the importance of not burying the metaphorical head in the sand and ignoring the changing landscape. Instead, practice owners must remain vigilant in watching the changes and continuing to work to get out ahead of them as much as possible.

With the increase of organizations being hit with ransomware and other cybersecurity threats, SecureChat host Cory Pomeroy is once again joined by RKON Account Executive, Derek Myronuk, to discuss the importance of moving to the cloud - specifically Microsoft Azure. Listen as they discuss the benefits that come with migrating to Azure, such as scalability, availability, and low costs; as well as Azure's capabilities and why organizations are migrating to the cloud. Tune in now!
We’re discussing:
Of course, it's true. Time is of the essence, and we struggle with spending hours on end, creating, engaging, and growing. More and more entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, mompreneurs, thispreneurs, and thatpreneurs, including side gig hustlers, are emerging every day. We have to find new ways to manage our energy. Time management and energy management are crucial not just for our businesses but for ourselves as well.
I don’t know anybody raising their hand to be overwhelmed.
Spending eight hours a day on social media can be detrimental to your productivity.
However, we all love the benefits of social media, and we definitely love the growth and authority that it provides to us. Unfortunately, we don't all have the time to dedicate to building a social media fortress organically. Or sometimes, we want to step up our game and run targeted ads to people who are already interested in what we have to offer to maximize our organic efforts.
So what do you when you done have the time? Or you just want to level up!
Studies say one out of every three Instagram are users have made a purchase after discovering a new product on Instagram, and there are 1 billion monthly active users.
I'm no math whiz, but that's telling me that’s a lot of Cho-Cho's!
84% of people on Instagram are more likely to shop from small businesses.
“Nobody counts the number of ads you run; they just remember the impression you make.”
