Episode 40: Cliff Miller on His Cannabis Business, How It Works & the Development of Maine’s Marijuana Industry

Episode 40: Cliff Miller on His Cannabis Business, How It Works & the Development of Maine’s Marijuana Industry

On this episode of The Boulos Beat, host Greg Boulos speaks with Cliff Miller (aka The King of Cannabis).  Cliff is the CEO of Millennial Equity, a real estate and private equity company Cliff founded in 2016. Cliff began developing cannabis real estate in 2017 when he and his partners decided to develop 10 acres in Auburn, Maine. Over the last eight years, Cliff has expanded to Michigan where he recently served as the CEO for Canapa Valley Farms. Currently, Cliff is consulting and working with some great groups from all over the globe.

The two sit down to discuss the marijuana industry and how Cliff took cannabis development to another level in the state of Michigan. As CEO, Cliff spent eight years developing some of the most technologically advanced cannabis campuses in the country, setting the tone for what large-scale cannabis will look like in the future. They also speak about Cliff’s road to success, including his not-so-smooth sailing through school, how he got into the marijuana business and his long-term plans.

Minor Cannabinoids with Dr. Ethan Russo

Minor Cannabinoids with Dr. Ethan Russo

Today’s episode will be slightly different to the norm… Having received a few notes from newer listeners keen to understand more about individual cannabinoids, I thought it would be cool this week to play out a session that ran last year at the GCI Summit with none other than Dr. Ethan Russo.

As one of the modern-day OGs of cannabis research and science, it is always a pleasure to pick the brain of Ethan, who is an unequivocal authority on the plant and its constituent parts.

As a heads up, the session was initially recorded on Zoom, so the audio quality will be slightly different to the typical pods; however, I hope that hearing the wonderful insights of Dr. Russo will be enough of an audio feast for you!

#010: Demystifying the Cannabis Industry - Blair Jordan

#010: Demystifying the Cannabis Industry - Blair Jordan

The cannabis industry, by legalization of medical and recreational use, attracted institutional and retail money and created a bubble with sky high valuations. Sound familiar?

This industry was no different to the internet boom or the ICO boom. Exuberant expectations and investment into this industry, bloated the market by over expansion of production, especially in Canada. Cash rich companies (not by profit) had to expand into other countries that legalized cannabis and acquire distribution channels and production facilities. However, many countries had a much stricter regulation around the industry and it fell short of many investors expectations.

However on a positive note, there are more countries looking at this industry, particularly on benefits from tax revenue, job creation and law enforcement cost saving, and there is a chance to re-do this industry all over again in other geographical locations.

Many cannabis companies now have to roll up their sleeves, bluntly re-examine their business model and decide if they need to blow this joint (industry).

Blair Jordan, a restructuring advisor specialized in the cannabis industry, dissects the industry from a business perspective and pulls the covers off of the ever so promising sector.
