Biden lieferte eine lebhafte und konzentrierte Rede ab, in der er seine Errungenschaften hervorhob und sich angriffslustig gab. So stellte er unter anderem noch mal klar, dass es mit ihm keine Verhandlungen über die Schuldenobergrenze geben werde. Die Gouverneurin von Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, hielt die republikanische Replikauf diese „State of the Union“, bei der sie erklärte, dass eine Partei im Kongress „normal“ und eine„verrückt“ sei.
