On December 8th, 1980 Mark David Chapman fired the bullets that killed John Lennon outside his home in New York City. His motives for doing so remain at best confusing. Was he a deranged fan? Was he emulating Holden Caulfield? To this day, no one is sure. However, Mark has a mysterious past and clandestine meetings around the world with shady figures. The possibility exists that the CIA wanted John Lennon dead and used Mark David Chapman as a Manchurian Candidate to see that goal fulfilled. John Hinckley Jr discovers that he is not the only one with a dangerous obsession. Jodi Foster finds relief from her tormentor for a brief while as Hinckley turns his sights on the U.S. President. Mark Chapman grew up idolizing the Beatles, especially John Lennon.  Chapman was disillusioned with his inability to achieve greatness, and was plagued with bouts of severe depression and paranoia.  Eventually, the man that he idolized came to represent a society that he felt had rejected him, and was responsible for his failings.  On December 8, 1980, Mark Chapman stalked Lennon outside of his New York apartment building, and murdered him with a 38 calibur handgun.  Nearly 41 years after John Lennon’s death, many still mourn his loss.  Join us as we discuss the lives of both men and Lennon’s shocking assassination.
