Your Pens are on the road to take on the Devils at THE ROCK. Honestly, as a New Jersey native, I must say that the Prudential Center is a KILLER venue for NHL hockey. It’s also a TOUGH place to watch your team get beat. That said, the last Penguins road game I witnessed, as a resident of the Garden State was a W over the Devils. Let’s hope that Tristan Jarry, newly reinserted into PIT’s lineup and fresh off a clean, impressive, 44-save victory at home against Ottawa on Friday, can resume his All Star-caliber play. Moreover, the Penguins will need to ‘have-their-backstop’s-back,’ doing everything they can to contain the speedy Jersey squad. I start the episode with some tape from former Vancouver Canucks head coach, Bruce Boudreau. IMO, “Gabby” was fairly disrespected by GM Jim Rutherford, with the story of his impending firing leaking as early as November. What an awkward position to be in, no? And then to be unceremoniously dismissed as soon as the front office could get its chess pieces in place. Suppose that’s just the way the The Show works. Best wishes to Brucey and his family, he’s by all accounts a good person and a passionate hockey guy.

The Devils are in Pittsburgh and SO. AM. I. Personally, this is my first trip back to Pittsburgh since October of 2019, and I couldn't be more excited to catch a home game with my own eyes. The Penguins hope to complete a 3-1 win of the season series against New Jersey.

Looking forward to high-fiving and cheering along with an entire arena full of Penguins fans.

GHP 041: How To Become An NHL Goaltender w/ The Vegas Golden Knights Head Coach Peter DeBoer

In this week’s episode we have easily our biggest guest yet, what a privilege and pleasure it is to have him on today, the head coach of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, Peter DeBoer.

We first dive deep into his massive success winning several championships and a Memorial Cup at the major junior level in the OHL before making his NHL debut . What he expects from his goaltenders going into the playoffs, championship series', and typical high stakes situations. The hardest part for goaltenders trying to transition to the NHL level. We discuss the common characteristics successful post season goaltenders have, and break down several of the best goalies he's had had the opportunity to coach; including Martin Brodeur, Martin Jones, Marc Andre Fleury, and Robin Lehner. We break down his current goalie situation in Vegas, and what exactly separates his goaltenders from everybody else as the best in the world.

Sean Burke on The Cam and Strick Podcast

Sean Burke on The Cam and Strick Podcast

Few goaltenders have burst onto the NHL scene quite like Sean Burke did in 1988. After a strong showing for Canada at the Olympics, Burke looked like he would be the goalie of the future for Lou Lamoriello and the New Jersey Devils. It didn't play out that way but still didn't keep Burke from moving on and becoming a three-time NHL All-Star. He played 18 seasons in the NHL, represented Canada twice at the Olympics, and finished his career with over 300 wins. He also battled with head coaches Mike Keenan and John Tortorella which has become a trend for our guests on the Cam and Strick Podcast. He held out an entire season, turning down a long-term contract from the Devils. Burke fought a lot, what's more, impressive than a goalie who has had more career scraps than most players? He still has aspirations to be an NHL GM one day and has held just about every position possible since retiring from the game including Assistant GM of the Arizona Coyotes. Burke took a break from playing guitar and renovating his house to join us on this edition of the Cam and Strick Podcast.
